Oh I didn't mean to sound like I knew anything about them, I was just compiling what was said previousely. Has anyone had any feedback on these? They look nice.

Testimonial for Monty Hockey’s Blade Coating Service
Giltis replied to bunnyman666's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Very rarely but I've seen it happen a handful of times in 10+ years across two provinces (perhaps it's just an insurance/liability thing). Every time it was just a quick warning like, "Hey that helmet is too old, get a new one for next time.", and yeah the helmet looked suuuper old. Either way all that to say that they wouldn't care if someone had these installed on their goalie skates. -

We have Beer Leagues up in Canada too. The only real thing they check here is a valid helmet sticker, and even that's only really done if the helmet visibly looks old. -
So pretty much: Gray/Dark Clarino is thicker, doesn't soak up much moisture and dries fast, more advanced in terms tech, and is more suitable for general folks, what you get by default Tan Clarino gives better grip, suitable for Pros and only available off-menu New snug fit liner is in testing, which would be the best of both worlds, but not even available off-menu

I wonder if you come from a speed skating background, it would help. My stride was a bit different (still is a bit to some keen observers) when I made the switch.

My skates finally, after some fiasco with the holders and steel. It's finally done, had a game last night and it felt incredible. Halfway through the game I felt confident enough to loosen the laces even more. Credit where credit is due. The guys that I originally sent these skates to have the holders switched, mangled the job (bent the steel as well as a result). But Joe from B-Sharp in Ottawa was able to fix these up better than before, he actually called TRUE to get my scan and their build papers, and consulted with them on how and where to mount these properly, got me back on the ice the next day. Above and beyond work.

Like a cave-in from the boot?

Also neat to see how Rask wants his stored open, and Halak stores his closed. He could be breaking them in too, break in a few and feel how the are during the warmups.

Is Going to smaller skate causing toe picks
Giltis replied to njobgen77's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
What? Really? I've only heard of people going up a size. -
Looks nice and clean. I'm about to drop off my skates for the holder switch to SB4.0 as well this afternoon.
-
Those skates look super nice, and also yes, proper sizing and comfort is everything.
-
Long shot, but what size are you? You're in an extremely similar situation as I am/was. I would go SB4.0 (which is what I will end up doing because I have Blacksteel for it already), because I realized that in all my years of playing, the quick change ability would have only saved me a handful of times, if that.

If they are making gloves specifically for women, I hope they take into account that most women have ring fingers about the same length as their index, as opposed to most men who's ring fingers tend to extend past the index.

I know people have already recommended a Girdle, but I would like to add that because of the way the Girdle works, you could also probably modify the protection areas to be shorter, and then modify the shell as well (MUCH easier than trying to modify regular pants). I do the same with mine, just the opposite way (I have longer legs and skinnier waist), and so I lengthen everything in addition to the CCM's +1 system.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but a full size difference is quite a bit. I would try the Ribcors, but I highly suggest full customs with that much of a discrepancy, either True or CCM or Bauer. Not sure what you mean by True not exciting you, but nonetheless, good news CCM and Bauer are both now offering custom skates to a wider audience.

He says a few of the holes are slightly off-center from one holder to another, I dunno what to say to that.
-
My skate guy wants to first epoxy the holes and fill them anyway before re-drilling them, is that a good idea?
-
I was told to tie them with only like 75% tightness, if you crank on them you will pull the eyelets out. I was warned like three times by two LHS employees to make sure, because apparently it has happened before. I have a clicking noise coming from the holder too and it drives me nuts, I hear some folks have the same issue with the TUUKs that they've swapped out too. I am going to be swapping them out as soon as I can get my hands on the XS holders (can someone confirm that the holes line up? Or if there are any caveats to look out for?). I've been able to reduce them by placing a bit of hard plastic tape on top of where the blade hooks onto the holder. But that's not a permanent solution it seems.

That's funny, I think I have the exact Warrior bag, and it's falling apart after two years (4 seasons). The piping ripped after one, and the inner pockets ripped after two. Before that, my old Cooper bag lasted me 15 years, and my Easton bag lasted me 10 as well.

Noob skate question: Just how much heel lock am I supposed to expect?
Giltis replied to Mlxg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
It's unfortunate that you still have to deal with your navicular bone, I feel your pain (sorry for the pun). When I first went with my CCM Tacks, I actually went one below the monoframe boot knowing that I'd have to punch out that area (I was told if the skate didn't shape around the pain area on the first try, that it'd be hard to punch it out due to the stiffness of the carbon fibre, not sure if that was true or not), back then there were no custom options for CCM Tacks, not sure if it's the case but I would ask about that. I used to have a ritual of buying skates, baking it, punching it twice, and then baking it one last time. I think Heel lock is nice, but I don't think 1mm lift is much of an issue other than feel (I know how it feels to be very particular about the feel, so this may be important to you). If I were you I'd get it baked again with extra tissue attached on the navicular bone to give it more room, and clamp on the heel (don't go crazy on the tightness though). For what it's worth, when I settled on my True Skates, it was really mind blowing to look at the skates out of the box and see all of the bumps and divots where in the past I'd have to punch out (I mean logically of course as they started with my feet, but still amazing to see it). But no more buying skates, and then spending 2 weeks going back and forth getting it punched out, skating to try it out and then baking again. All that said though, I'd still give your skates another chance at getting it right, doesn't seem like your issues are unfixable. -
I was going to mention RX3.1 STX as a a great bang for buck. I have an RX3 and the PUREgrip is super comfy in my hands. Otherwise I think any mid-range sticks, previous year's top model or Pro-stock sticks are ways to get great value.
