Yeah, it was mentioned on here before and the sales guy was telling me about it when I just went in for my sons skates.
-
Good price and the nice thing is the three flex profiles and flexes in increments of 5. I would imagine the construction is still the same as other off brand sticks though, correct? Low cost Chinese-made?
-
Skates are so different now, although I never thought of CCMs as a tier below when I was growing up. Try a ton on. They are so stiff, even the Ribcore, it is hard to know how they will fit once baked. The Shanahan I used to have was a square toe curve, and yes, it was a long blade. The 88 are short in comparison. Base makes that pattern in a replacement blade I believe, just hard to stomach $65 for a blade.
-
I second trying the Ribcore if they fit you. Went from Bauer 7000 to them for the same reason you are citing.

Tydan Blacksteel compared to Step Blacksteel
BenBreeg replied to Braden's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I am not comparing the use cases, just using it as an example that there are many ways to make steel to get the properties you need for a given application. And the knife guys are nuts! 🙂 -
Tydan Blacksteel compared to Step Blacksteel

Go to a knife forum and 1/2 of what they talk about is steel! Yes, hard steel can be brittle, but there are also techniques to retain the hardness and reduce the brittleness. -

No, Blademaster I think. -
Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
BenBreeg replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Ugg, my only chance to get to Pure for sharpening today...45 minutes to do my son’s skates. Didnt have the time to wait. Will have to chance it that the rink sharpener is open before his game tomorrow and that someone competent is manning the machine!! going to be a long wait before I get a Sparx... -
Hockey shot makes big panels as well, they were what I was thinking of: https://www.hockeyshot.com/pp-hs-synthetic-ice-a/632.htm

Thoughts on these skates "flexing"?
BenBreeg replied to JimmyTheDriver's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I rebaked mine and took an aluminum finger splint and trimmed it up and taped it to my accessory navicular to help bump the boot out once I put it on. That and the orthomove insoles helped a bit. I can feel it when I put them on initially but it actually feels better once I skate a bit. -
Any way you can find someone to “hem” the liner? Shorten it so it ends right at the top of the tongue?

Thoughts on these skates "flexing"?
BenBreeg replied to JimmyTheDriver's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I have Platinums which is the 78k boot. I don’t notice any flexing after about 15 hours in them but I don’t lace my top eyelet when playing and usually two when coaching and secondly, I think I am very borderline volume-wise so my foot sits a bit proud in the skate, which I think changes the way the facing kind of gets affected by by ankle flexion. -
Interesting...
-
Why would you laugh at that?
-
Could be. But maybe they did test it in gameplay.
-
You could. But it would serve the same purpose as a gap, it allows them to move independently. I would assume a simple gap/cutout is cheaper. It certainly is more recognizable.
-
I understand it is all connected, but for the bottom to flex while connected to two endpoints, there has to be the gap or cutout. So yeah, not rocket science. And being an engineer, no matter who you work for, doesn’t mean your word is law when evaluating a description or picture of a design. Anybody who has spent any time doing npd knows that it is par for the course to hypothesize, prototype, and test and that often you are proven wrong, which is the point.
-
I get article not found. Yes, you could make a rigid upper and softer lower, but if there wasn't any separation the bottom section wouldn't "slingshot" independently.
-
So just thinking, if you would realize the maximal effect of the slingshot the puck would need to be released from the middle of the blade, centered within the cutout. Reganblink mentioned testing a P28, I wonder what the difference is between that and say an 88 curve. What would really be awesome would be some super slow motion video of this stick shooting with various curves.
-
Maybe, I would think CCM would be a little more low-key.
-
Or maybe said predecessors just did a shitty job implementing the idea and Bauer in fact did learn from them...
-
You can even go on their site and initiate a chat session and get a quicker answer. I did that when I had a question about molding youth skates (they don't really “mold”, just the ankle pads soften).

Smarthockey vulcanized rubber blade tape?
BenBreeg replied to VegasHockey's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Did they really need to commission a study about how the eye sees color? That info is out there. I just tend to think that the more long-winded an explanation is, the more I start to question the value prop.
