  1. Also figure that softer wheels will have more rolling friction.
  2. I'm the opposite. I like my laces to be as short as possible (also slightly OCD but in a different way). I use 72" laces since I don't lace the top 2 eyelets, which means I only use 7 eyelets, and still end up with a rather big bow since my skates are approximately size 6. I still have to unlace the 3rd eyelet to get my skate on and off.
  3. I'm using some non-waxed Elite PRO-X7 laces right now and I'm very happy with them. They're wider than their regular laces.
  4. I remember BASE recommending the Regular stiffness blades for roller hockey, so I would stick to Stiff or Xtra Stiff for ice hockey.
  5. Because of the skate's great wrap, I had a hard time getting one of the tips through an eyelet, so I curved the tip with needle nose pliers and coated it with super glue so it holds its curve. It makes it easier to guide it through the eyelet.
  6. Yes, all city rinks and even the YMCA rink that my league plays in.
  7. Isn't the True holder taller than other holders to allow for the use of shorter (height-wise) and thus lighter steel? What next, skating on stilts? Isn't there a point of diminishing returns with respect to height's effect on agility? Personally, I prefer to have the shortest steel possible with a bit of leeway that won't cause my boot to hit the ice on sharp turns .
  8. I have the LS2 holder. At the time it was either that or the LS Edge, or boot only.
  9. The only thing lacking on the old-style shoulder pads is spinal protection. At least today's Sherwood 5030 have a spine protector instead of lacing on the back.
  10. I use one of these to dry my skates and gloves. I turn the timer up all the way to 3 hours but I leave the heat switch OFF so only room temperature air is pumped through them.
  11. I'm using BASE 2-piece sticks. They used to be one-piece but when the blades broke, I managed to chip out the remaining hosel pieces from the shaft and put in some old BASE blades. I'm going to stick with 2-piece from now on. BASE blades are a bit pricey but they're the only 4-lie PM9 blades I can find.
  12. I once did this to my Bauer Flexlite skates to alleviate lace bite. I stuck self-adhesive closed-cell foam weather-stripping strips so they would fall on either side of the tendon. You can find different widths and thicknesses of it at hardware stores. Just make sure you choose the closed-cell foam because the open-cell stuff is not firm enough.
  13. I remember coating the toe caps of my Kevlar Tacks with polyurethane varnish instead of ProtecToe to retain the color of the kevlar fiber.
  14. I believe he means a padded V shape on the inside of the tongue and a more rigid C shape on the outside sort of like this cross-section of a tongue expertly drawn in MS paint.😄
  15. They still put ballistic nylon on toe caps?
  16. Mine does that but it's the tendon guard that clicks so I'm not concerned.
  17. Bauer once had something like that called the Form-Fit tongue. https://sidelineswap.com/gear/hockey/skates/player-skates/857038-bauer-new-formfit-plus-felt-skate-tongues
  18. Brendan Gallagher broke his stick in anger yesterday but he's okay since he's with Warrior. 🤣
  19. I've noticed that good knee/ankle bend makes pitch less important. I realized that when I started skipping the top 2 eyelets.
  20. I had regular Step steel and now I have regular Tydan steel and I haven't noticed a difference in edge retention. I end up getting burrs (if that's the right term to use in this case) from contact with another players steel anyway during puck battles along the board and such, and those burrs would happen with any type of steel. So since I end up sharpening because of burrs even before losing the edge, I see no point in going with more expensive steel. And I don't care what color or how shiny my runners are, either.
  21. I suggest trying this pattern/combination of rivets.
  22. My favorites are Kobe. Very breathable and durable.
