    I haven't tried the high end Nespresso...I'll be on the look out :) Couldn't agree more, the calculus of what's the best sharpening option includes a lot of factors and in some cases, the professional options available are depressing to say the least...again, just like finding a consistently great espresso supply.

    It's like espresso: incredibly expensive and difficult to replicate high quality results at home--even achieving the minimum platform for quality to shine through to the end of the whole process requires significant investments of time and money. It's worth it to take it to the professionals.

    Yes, it's strange, trying to nail down what the lie is. The Leino is more continuously rockered where that heel-middle-toe difference is more drastic. The Kovalevs I have are all just a bit higher than the E4 I've compared it to from 1/4 of the blade length beyond the heel and further forward. I didn't have much stick+puck time to play around with it though. I think I may be able to dial it in, it just ended up playing higher than I expected...If I'm right in what that experimenting has taught me, it's more important for me to have the lie stay low at least to 2/3 - 3/4 of the length away from the heel, so the puck doesn't slip under the blade when I'm carrying it. I think I just need to try some lie 4's, in which case, I'll definitely be drawing on Base's vast offerings in that range come next season. I'm not sure, but I suspect it's due to a curse of long arms that I'm lost with anything but really low lies.

    On Coffey curves: Montreal's PC had less rocker and was a little less banana-ish. I think Frontier's COF may be the same as Montreal's oldie, but I haven't seen one in person, so it's hard to say. Loved that curve.

    I have one of those and it's a slim standard. It fits in my Mako M5 and AK27 shafts with a little strip of tape to fill in some negative space. Forgot to mention, I also have an SE16 Leino with a tapered modified version of Kovalev's curve. It's a significantly lower lie, thinner blade and more dagger-like toe shape, but generally the same. For me personally, I was incredibly keen to try Kovalev's patterns after having read about them, but they end up being a bit too high in the lie for me, though I found the Leinovalev more accommodating. I also didn't like the shortness of the blade by the heel. I tend to handle the puck there and it felt as though my feedback from the puck was reduced in the heel half of the blade.

    Maybe the extra protection in the tongue contributes a bit as well...maybe 10-20g, but add 10-20 here, there, a couple other places, and soon you're up 100g total.

    In the second round: a couple other Sharks: Tierney, Karlsson, Wingels, Dillon; one Isle: Hickey; some more Blues: Paajarvi (if he gets in the lineup), Schwartz; one Penguin: Cole.

    I saw an old Gretzky Titan at the Hockey Hall of Fame that was pretty close to that.

    BC28/Kreps but lower lie, around the Easton E4's 5.0 lie. Every X28 I've seen is closer to 5.5 in the heel "low lie" section. Otherwise that curve is perfect. Even lower could be good, around 4.5. I'd get behind the (left hand mirror) Kovalchuk too if it's a low lie.

    That's great, thanks! It really looks like it isn't as flat in the heel rocker as the other versions of that curve. That could turn out great for my picky hands :)

    Nice! I'm looking forward to trying out that curve next fall. From the pictures` of it on icewarehouse, it looks like it might be a more continuously rockered blade on the heel than other X28's (Easton, Bauer, Warrior, etc.). Can you post a picture of the blade face of the TC4? I'm curious if that is the case or if it's just something funky they did in their photoshopping.

I'm not sure about Donskoi. Did he ever wear VH? If we were to fully add KHL guys, there are a bunch just on Jokerit Helsinki.

    But there's hardly anything to make white. Just the facing and tendon guard. That plus white graphics on the composite quarters could look good. Still, the toe box looks odd. Quite boxy indeed.

    Very interesting. It'll be great to hear comparisons from people who try these after having had the various Van Horne built or inspired skates. I wonder what they'll cost. Edit: I wonder how they'll compare to the previous Tacks as well. It's hard to tell from the picture, but are they not as forward leaning as the previous line? I read the download and didn't see anything about the boot lean/pitch in there.

    Can't wait to see the QuickLite shins in person. I've always loved the Jofa fit, but that area below the knee cap was too bulky on all but the 7K / 6070 style. It looks like the QuickLite might be just what I've been hoping for.

    I love the replacement tendon guard idea on the Supremes. It's a natural conclusion in line with the variable flex tongue inserts from way back.

    Yet more Blues: Magnus Paajarvi Looks like he's still doing his unlaced top eyelet with taped tendon guard setup. It'll be interesting to see if Stastny makes the plunge. So many former Graf skaters have, and the Blues have more and more VH wearers almost by the week.
