VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne

Once the drawings or scan in my case the price goes on the length. Could have been a misunderstanding from the fit center. They won't charge for SR if it's not over 252 mm. -

Ok so I made a phone call and this is what was explained to me prior to me getting my scanner because I had some questions. I just wanted to make sure it was ok to post. Hi Jeff, there are some misconceptions that have been posted around the net, maybe I can clear some up... This is a brand new scanner and software system. Scott Van Horne has previously used 3-D scanning to build speed skates, but that has proved not to work well in the past for hockey skates. With speed skates, comfort and protection are not paramount as in hockey, so 3-D scanning was providing a model to build a “milled last” for speed skates. Hockey also has the challenge of building a canted boot that will accept a holder – again, not something that the previous scanner and software would allow VH to solve for automatically. Also, this speed skate process can be upwards of $2,000 per pair – something that is not currently palatable in the hockey industry. Thus, VH designed a series of algorithms based upon measurement sets and 2-D tracings for hockey. Fast forward to 2016, and the opportunity to source a lightweight, mobile, and iPad compatible scanner became a reality. This got VH excited, and for the past year, they have been working on specifications with the software scanning provider to develop a custom software application. This software takes allot of the calculations and foot mapping that were previously done manually, and automates them. This will allow VH to continue to produce custom skates at the same rate – even though demand has increased. Essentially, once this process is refined through the pilot and testing phase, VH fit centers will have use of the scanner to send in orders – and those orders will be more easily handled at the factory. The current method of tracings, measurements and photos is still how they are building custom skates. Eventually, you will see these scanners in the hands of all dealers as a lightweight and mobile option, that will also cement consistency across all fittings. For a small company out of Winnipeg, I think they should be applauded for investing in solutions to try to continually get better and move the industry forward. -

The new scanner is far more advanced and as the kinks get worked out at retail and finalized over the next few weeks of fittings I will explain better then in laymen terms what it actually does. I couldn't if I tried to explain the whole thing from a technical point of view at the moment. LOL All I can say it is pretty easy to use and getting better. Not cheap but will be worth it down the road. No more multiple drawings needed. I still do the old measurements for the time being till its perfected. So far so good. -

Blade Movement in Tuuk LS Edge Holders
oldtrainerguy28 replied to Davetronz's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
That would defeat the purpose. I use a CSW holder to sharpen and then put them back in. Seems to work better. -
Blade Movement in Tuuk LS Edge Holders
oldtrainerguy28 replied to Davetronz's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Yes exactly that happening. And another trigger broken yesterday. I wish I had spare parts so i didn't have to cannibalize good holders for parts. I know you can get them because a local store that has an "IN" with bauer has them. -
Blade Movement in Tuuk LS Edge Holders
oldtrainerguy28 replied to Davetronz's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Every player on my team either needs new holders or going back to LS 2. And before you say girls can't play or there not hard enough on skates blah blah blah...they just won both major tournaments to capture Provincial/State and League championships. Only been done 3 times since 2004. They really need to look at this. Final game blade falls out due to trigger failure. Luckily another kid in the arena had the same skates. I know the NHL and lower trainers love the ease but also know they change holders frequently. Or you could just look at Patrick Kane this year.....switched back to LS2 and Black Step. Coincidence? -
It would be way easier to explain over the phone than write out in length on here.

I have found that using duct tape instead f the clamp works amazing. It hold tight doesn't move and makes the heel tighter were it needs to be. I have done 4 re-fits from guys that have had the skate for a season and everyone says it feels like a brand new skate now. -

Alan, Seeing as you know what you can do to fix the issue down the road......and having no concrete proof of what the issue is for sure. I would order the skates stock. nothing done at all to them. And simply try them out. period. You can add lifts and if need be shims for leg length very easily. I would simply order the skates and see how they feel. -

You want to shim the VH skates for forward pitch??? there is no need to do it. there plenty forward enough. EVERY person i have fitted Pro's included went neutral no lifts at all. One tried a slight forward pitch and took it out after. High profile player. -

Alan in the 60 or so fits i have done so far there is only one player i have had to do any lifts or shims with. I did have to alter the blades for alignment but this particular player has always had thi done. however with the VH they have less done and only have the lifts to clear for tight turns because of the very wide foot they have. -

He may have...he likes to try things. However doing it because "he hates his VH" I highly doubt. Ordering skates for himself wouldn't be out of character at all for him. he may have even ordered them for a buddy which he has done numerous times before. That is how I met him. Working at National came in for rollerblades for his now wife. Got talking about hockey had no clue who he was. Explained an issue he had with his skates I made a suggestion. he came by the next day and have done hos skates every summer since then. -

I speak to him on a regular basis and if he went to buy some X1's it was for someone local it sure wasn't to get out of his VH. He is wearing them. -

I have lots of pics of guys skates with almost zero issues except daily use. Almost all the skates I have fitted come back to me for sharpening and I have one Minor Midget kid that is ranked in the top 5 for the OHL draft for skating and his look just fine. Natalie Spooner from Team Canada has the old ones and hers are still in amazing shape and can be seen here ( http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/2016-cwhl-all-star-game-what-you-need-to-know/ ) and has played a tone of international hockey club hockey and training. i made her buy a new pair because i can see were they are a little soft but she wont change to her new ones. And while that has been my experience I am not saying for a second yours are not in good shape. -

I am a little biased here however I have to say that I have had zero issues with over 60 pairs ordered. I had one pair the kid grew out of before we got them Dad's fault for not paying for 3 weeks and it was September so it was a 4 week wait at the time. 1. Couldn't get foot in: It says right on the paper in the box and on the website do not try and put the skate on without heating? So wondering why you would try it? 2. Liner color: Yah gotta say thats not to good but personally only ordered one pair of skates with wick the rest clarino all have lasted with no wear at all so far. So personally like the clarino better. 3. Double Stitching: The boot is all carbon fiber where would they double stitch? There isnt one NHL player with double stitching cant see a reason for it except looks? 4. There could have been extra carbon fiber in the lacing section you wouldnt be able to see it although it would have made the lacing area even stiffer so realllly hard to get skate on then. I really have to say that in my opinion that for a skate company to have as little issues as I have seen on here compared to the other companies stock and pro models that some seem to be looking to knock them down. (VH that is). All top end skates from every other company are 900 bucks so that issue is not even a discussion. And for quality compared to most hands down a better skate. However some statements are very true. Design: Yes I think there could be some improvement on the look of the skate for sure. Fit and Finish: Has there been a couple pairs I thought could have looked a little better...yup... but the skate is what it is and I have seen faults and issues on pro return skates that were new and stock top of the line skates with blade issues and alignment problems so there not alone. All in all i firmly believe they are the best made skate around right now by a mile and will only get better. If your in Sydney you can get them done at Skaters Network they have the piece for sure saw it there last year at the Classic games when fixing one of the player skates. Also have one in Melbourne at the old Ice House.
