Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
oldtrainerguy28 replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Makes zero sense. No offense. But Blademaster and Blackstone have been working on things in the background for a while. Buying a company like spark makes no sense because all you get is the followers and email addresses because neither would use the tech. Both already have similar that just needs to be scaled down. Someone soon will come up with one that will blow it out of the water. -

Your shop should have called Rob 10..mins after you realized the difference in fit. Rob would have had a return label made and a new pair in production asap. You could have sent back tracings etc at that point and solved this dispute ages ago. -

And again they are going off what they have. Check the scanner first. -

If the scanner isn't calibrated properly you could send 1000 scans. I would have them recalibrate the scanner. Send crush boxes and old school drawings and solve it once and for all. Not sure why your being short with me just trying to help. I'm pretty sure I am in the top number of fits . -

You guys realize the scanner.program being used by both True and CCM is a program developed originally to make orthodix right? And that when I first saw it was at my podiatrist office in like 2012. Same way CCM does them now. So personally I'm really kinda confused why all this uproar about othodics and old school crush boxes? Again for SMU I think your lhs may have been the error not the factory. How many skates have they fitted? And I'm not defending the factory as I have had mistakes made but easily rectified. But I think saying the shop has no liability is not correct if they have limited fitting experience with the scanner. As mentioned by numerous people Rob will sort it out. As for the crush boxes... why not just go to a local orthodox place and buy a set and send them. they are like 12 bucks? Have Rob send you a label and ship them in. Then they can compare the scan to the box. -

I'm just curious as to what pieces you think are precut? The main part of the boot is molded / Wrapped around the foot mold every time. Then the side panels then the eyelits. What pieces are you saying are "put togrther"? -

So.... I think there was a scan issue. But your comment about making skates bigger to sell SR is completely in accurate. I have actually had the reverse happen the majority of times it's a close call. Hence 90% of those clients baught a new pair when SR was needed. Its actually of no benefit to make the skate bigger and add foams for the Factory only more cost to them. I know Rob will get it right. I truly believe the scanner may not have been calibrated correctly or lighting issue or something else. -

What do you mean you can't prove they last longer? That's actually pretty easy. You sell x amount of skates. Customer Y bought his Trues 2 years ago he normally goes through a skate once a year playing wise. Now its lasted 2. I'm sure any equipment manager will tell you compared to other skates at high end use instead of player X going through 12 pairs hes down to 6 or 5. I've heard that many times. Especially with goalies. As for the manufacturing sector I know from what scott told me they pick the closest last and build out from there for needed issues. Then lay the carbon over. If you have been doing it 20 years pretty sure they can build a skate much faster now. -

Well if it makes you feel better smug ibhave had 2 customers one with one of the other 2 custom brands and one with the other. One plays extremely high end hockey and will be drafted next year in the NHL and one will be drafted in the OHL. Both top picks. And both had skates fitting in a similar fashion. The latter in the OHL was far worse than yours and caused a bone calsification in just a week and a half of wear! And those were 1500 including tax!!! Oh and they wont remake them unless they send them back. Kinda hard when your AAA and in your draft year. Oh and both blades were bent and one mounted all the way forward and the other all the way back. -

Well for one McDavids are as heavy as a pair of NHL Trues. McDavid and Strome similar size and if anything Stromes were lighter. Jack Hughes custom CCM is atleast 50 to 75g heavier than Ture skates his size. -

I would get Step XL 254 black. Similar to 4 but pitched forward already and a good profile out if the box. But before you do anything get the left holder realigned. I would say 85% of my replacements are Bauer left skates. Breaking right ahead of the trigger. -

Well Sir, As much as I know JR is an amazing sharpener. I will gladly disagree with you and I am sure JR will back me on this. I have been working with True/VH from almost day one. My first big time client that had that same skate swap was Barb Underhill the Leafs and Lightning skating coach. She had zero issues and was comfortable within 5 mins. The second was Mike Ellis the skills coach the Leafs. While neither are playing now they have to perform at NHL speed and do everything needed to get guys like Marner and others doing what they do. Again it can be done not by matching the profiles or Pitch because yes both boots are different. And again if had some input on the whole thing I am sure I could figure out something to make them work. That being said JR is awesome so I am sure he did everything you asked him to do and hes not comfortable. It is what it is. As for the Tendon guard Scott Bio.mechancily designed the flexion to be what it needed to be so that it actually propelled the skater. That being said I did make Barbs smaller so it fit her calf better and she doesnt really need one. My 2 cents. -

The True needs to have the profile adjusted to make it feel the same as the Mako thats all. Had this happen many times with guys. -
I've purchesed to re sell some pro returns and made sure that the customer buying had a similar foot and so far zero issues. In fact a customer came in yesterday after his first game and scored his first goal. He plays d and usually has assists but skating better than in his prior skates as per the customer.

Just an FYI The Great one wears them. 😏 As do about 10 other HHOF players. The weight doesn't seem to bother them nor the other 120 plus current NHL players. And there are some mighty fine skilled players wearing them past and present. Pavel Bure Wayne Gretzky Adam Oates Adam Graves Igor Larionov Mitch Marner Ryan Strome JVR Bozak and on and on. We all know its 80 to 100 grams but no it doesn't make that big a difference. If it truly did then 24 players in the Sharks organization wouldn't be wearing them. (Team with the least amount of games lost to foot injury). -

All skates have issues. How the customer service dept handles it is the difference. As for this fit above I wish I was around to help out. Sounds like a little more expiernece with the skate may have made it a little less of an issue. Although it sounds to me like every base was covered. I have had a client albeit shorter over all similar stature and had a similar issue. 3 pair was a charm. In my opinion 2nd was fine but customer is always right. Happy camper now. I'm sure Rob will sort it he is a magician. -

Automated skate sharpeners will be the norm in 10 years. However, IMO if the promotion this machine is getting on this site as one of the first people on it if not the first on here I believe JR should be getting something from it? That's my point it has ZERO to do with how I feel this machine can and cannot sharpen skates. -

Although this is more of a Q and A for the most part it sure seems to me that's turned into more of a free promotion for this product. And as per the guidelines I personally think JR should be compensated for the amount of sales it seems to be generating. Similarly to another topic a while back about the pro shops. Just my opinion.
