  1. A wide will be wider everywhere, not just the toe box. The boot opens up a bit as it breaks in. As that happens your foot should sit a little deeper in the heel pocket. Both will help your issue. Keep in mind, you have CCM 90 day warranty. So you can skate in them long enough to know how they will really feel.
  2. The ankle padding in the 70k and 80k's are thicker and softer than what's you get in the 100k. On the flip side, the comfort edge on the 100k is way more robust. I LOVED the ankle padding in my 70ks. It's the only thing I don't like about the 100k pros. I considered going custom just to get that back. With the price hike of $400 it didn't seem worth it.
  3. They've made huge strides in hockey helmet teach. You should try one.
  4. @SolarWind right from the box of my 100k's.
  5. @PBH what made you go custom? It looked like the other pair you had fit pretty well.
  6. /rolls eyes. You have two paths, add to the discussion or find a bridge to live under. Totally your call.
  7. Yeah, I see plenty of that here too. I was thinking same holder. The runner would have elongated front and rear attachments features. Runner, is inserted into the carbon fiber shell then inserted into the holder like a standard edge runner. Good question, not sure what became of those.
  8. Curious why Bauer choose to fuse the two parts. Why not make the carbon fiber part a spacer for a new lower height runner. That way the steel is replaceable after it's worn. Also curious as to why they haven't tried titanium. Too brittle...too hard to sharpen? There has to be more to it than just cost.
  9. The skate post bake feels completely different. I would strongly recommend a good bake. Yeah, the skating style thing is total BS. I'm not all about agility, but I like the Ribcor's because the softer boot works for me. My experience with the 100k's has been very positive.
  10. For those still clinging to the whole weight doesn't matter, check out boxing gloves. Time to put this one to bed.
  11. First, I don't think its as simple as "walk more" or "don't skip leg days". Talk about an eyeroll... Second, the benefits may come in the form of endurance, like my feet don't feel so heavy at the end of games. Look at a cars fuel economy or acceleration when it's just the driver vs the driver and passengers. Both take a hit when the car is weighed down. Really the only ludicrous thing here is blindly saying there is, and I quote, "no performance benefit whatsoever".
  12. This to me sounds like an edge issue. We're they sharpened properly? Are your edges level? Pretty sure they come with a standard 10' radius, least that's how they feel to me. Comparing profiles is tough because they change over time.
  13. Keep in mind. CCM had already launched or was set to launch the AS3 when they acquired STEP. Thought I heard someone say if you buy AS3's now you can upgrade to step for free.
  14. Rumor is, Gooner is testing out a new prototype holder made from 100% concrete. 🤣
  15. I took mine to a local shop. I didn't mind paying for it. It was way better than anything I would be able to do at home. I didn't lace the top eyelet when I baked mine and I let the guy at the shop tighten and tie. I think it may be more of how they cut the boot. Looks to me like they purposefully added volume in that area.
  16. Historically, yes, the edge holder and steel was better. That will change now that ccm has a quick release holder and offers STEP Steel on higher end models. The XBS holder and STEP Blacksteel is a killer set up.
  17. Same with CCM. A Jetspeed tapered felt different than a Ribcor tapered. Not by a huge amount but you could tell there was a difference. Maybe it's just the liner and interior padding???
  18. This is where the term custom gets muddy. The latter isn't really custom. It's a retail skate that's put through a better, more advanced baking process.
  19. But it should. That's the point. If customs don't fix fit issues, its likely not a fit issue or the user has some misconceived notion that custom skates feel like Air Jordan's.
  20. The stuff you wanna use is called Shoe Goo glue.
  21. Who was it that came up with lacing all the way to the top but skip the second from the top? It works way better than I expected.
  22. First skate with the new wheels is in the book. Generally, I like to try new skates at public skating or stick time just to get a feel for them. I didn’t feel like waiting. I left my other skates at home so I couldn’t bail out. I played in them for an hour and a half with just a few minor annoyances. The 100k’s have less forward pitch than my current 70k’s. So there was some adjustment there. Towards the end of the session my right ankle starting getting sore. I don’t know if it was the collar of the skate or just some muscles that had to work a little harder. Feels like the former not the latter. The overall fit seems to be good. I am considering going to the standard fit and adding the extra thick tongue to give me a little more space. On the plus side. Edge work and transitioning in and out of turns was effortless…almost automatic in some regards. It was as if the skate knew where the brain was planning on going. I don’t know it’s the one piece boot, the XS holder, or both, but I like it. I like it a lot.
  23. Wide toe box in a vapor....I don't think so. I could buy the new asymmetric toe box feels wider than the standard vapor toe box.
  24. Mine arrived yesterday. Nice looking skate from top to bottom...Blacksteel is pretty hot. The overall fit was kinda meh. I kind of expected that out of the box. I went with a size 6, tapered, no surprise there. Length and depth appear to be good. I took them in to get them baked today. They feel pretty dang good right now. Heel is really locked in place. Pretty good wrap and spacing post bake. The skates reacted well to the molding process. Feels like a different skate list bake. The tapered fit profile is very vapor-like. A bit more volume in the forefoot and a smaller heel. The ankle padding is new. No more memory foam, bummer I know. Still a comfortable skate. The new tongue is a welcome upgrade as is the new tendon guard. So what happened to good supportive foot beds in high end skates? The ones in these are litterly laughable. Can't wait to take them for a rip.
