  1. The second pair in MC88's post is mine. Just for reference they were ordered October 2014. The Only difference between the first pair and mine is the sidewall piece. I prefer the one piece look to the trapezoid cut out, but was advised that they had switched to die cut pieces for that part and the one piece was no longer available. The other difference is the coated toe cap on mine, that form what I understand has been available all along as an option. The difference from the first/second generation skates to the current iteration is mainly the obviously different replaceable tendon guard and new toecap overlay option. Aside from the corresponding aesthetic changes to the "leather" overlay areas to accommodate the new pieces, I don't think the boot has changed very much at all ( not that it needs to). The updates seem to address the durability issues some have encountered.
  2. So I managed to cut the sidewall of my front tire on my way into work this morning. They are repaving the road where I work and apparently i got too close to the corner of drain. No big deal, takes about 15 minutes to put the spare on and I'll get a new one at lunch. As I'm about to fit the donut on, the manufacturer supplied jack collapses and folds, with my car now resting on the rotor. Apparently Subaru jacks are not rated for cars. I then had to borrow two jack from co-workers (Nissan SUV jacks are quite nice), jack up the back tire on the same side enough to slide another jack under the front, let down the back and jack up the front (again). It's also the first day of our latest heat wave, so I was good and soaked by the time I was done. No apparent damage, but I'm very annoyed by the POS jack. I realize they aren't designed to be heirloom tools passed on from generation to generation, but I did expect it to work more than once.
  3. Try putting them on like this: https://youtu.be/gITaMaJAv8A
  4. I used waxed laces on all my skates prior, and do not use waxed for my VH's
  5. Is it gone like lost on the highway somewhere? If so you may want to check with whichever police dept (RCMP?) has jurisdiction. Someone may have turned it in.
  6. Any reason for the rigid tendon guard? The new tendon guard offering looks pretty solid.
  7. Sorry, I missed that you had used a shoe horn. I retract my statement to the contrary.
  8. My point was that every manufacture has skates that have issues in some respect or another. As far as the liner issue, in the baking instructions provided by the manufacturer it is advised to always use a shoe horn on a hot boot. This is done to prevent the issue Optimus had. It's hard to fault the manufacture in that case where the instructions were ignored.
  9. A better example may be the piles of "pro return" Bauer skates (for example) available at many retailers. They were returned/refused for a reason...
  10. Other than switching out the insoles (which I've done on all my skates), I haven't had to do any "tinkering". A large portion of VH customers ended up in them due to fit issues with other brands. Many will tolerate a bit of tinkering if it means skating pain free.
  11. Be careful with any super glue product- use just enough to do the job. It will make the liner hard and potentially uncomfortable if you use too much. I would use Barge cement (be sure it's the type with tolune). It's used in shoe and boot manufacturing and won't make the liner as hard.
  12. What glue was recommended, Barge?
  13. What size holders on those grey skull?
  14. I had inquired about retention of measurements and order info and was advised that VH does retain this for future orders. I agree with the post above that the tracings should be re done should any real length of time pass between orders.
  15. How did you do your tracings?
  16. Just stare back and say quietly "The first rule of Fight Club......is don't talk about Fight Club."
  17. I've had mine since October with no eyelet issues.
  18. Looks this will address the rivet issue some have had " The sole of the new boot also includes a proprietary polymer insert that enhances the properties oft he sole, and provides a superior inner surface for receiving blade holder mounting fasteners."
  19. This arrived yesterday for LTR. Should have something up tonight.
  20. Brought my seven year old to his first airshow. Had a blast. I haven't been since i was that old. Really impressed by the F-22. Did some things I didn't think were possible in a jet.
  21. Rotor Cuff injury. happened a few weeks ago, seems to be doing better with PT. Hoping I won't need surgery...
  22. Why not change the radius on the stock mako steel? That seems like it would be the most cost effective solution, no?
