  1. Go with one skate with the shim and the other without, then see which fit you prefer. They will compress over time, but I wouldn't say significantly. Like I previously posted I attached the shims to my inserts, but don't have them permanently attached to the toecap. My next test is to see at what point I need to replace mine.
  2. What I did was to experiment using and not using the shim by not permanently attaching them to the toe box. In the end I wound up using the shim, but I just insert them and take them out with every use. I just prefer to be able to take them out to air dry and occasionally spray them with deodorizer.
  3. I've had mine for over a year now and have had zero issues. I have only seen one come back to our store that was cracked. Coming from custom SuperFeet that I liked, the only negative that I had was the loss of volume. With the SpeedPlate I have a custom footbed without any loss of volume in my skates.
  4. There are some changes from the previous Vapor gloves: 1X Pro has the pro ivory nash palm with overlay. 1X has the addition of XRD to the backhand and palm is now AX Suede Quattro grip. X900 adds 37.5 to the liner and triple density foams. Palm is the same as the 1X. X800 adds Thermo Max to the liner and PE inserts.
  5. HYDRA MAX liner and flexible tendon guard.
  6. I went with 3mm lifts when I had LS2 holders installed. Can't tell you if it matched the stock pitch perfectly, but I was satisfied with the results.
  7. Many guys I know would rather repalm than get new gloves. I think many in the market for new gloves will consider them for the easy palm replacement.
  8. They come now (at least mine did) with the blue insert plus the thin shim. I tried with the and without and prefer the fit/feel with the shim. Once I figured that out I permanently attached the shim to the blue insert, but manually place them and then remove them after every skate.
  9. So I really experimented with these, using: The insert without the shim The insert with the shim And then alternation skates with and without inserts In my MX3's I now use the insert plus the shim. However, I attached the shim to the insert, but haven't permanently attached them inside the skates as I prefer to remove them after skating for drying and airing. Guess I'm hooked on the feel. Can't say I've seen any performance gains, but definitely am enjoying the comfort and fit feel.
  10. An outstanding act on your behalf that she will surely appreciate...well done!
  11. He's talking about the Easton skate guy once being the MLX skate guy...
  12. Still on the fence as to whether or not I like the difference in fit they provide, but not willing to ditch them either at this time.
  13. Agree totally. Lack of educating many retail employees also hurts. Whether Bauer, CCM, or Graf, many of those manufacturers' skates are not unbearable out of the box when it comes to fit. The Mako is right out unbearable and difficult to get on unless put in the skate oven for a few minutes, a step most shop employees are not willing to do.
  14. Tried them out for the first time last night. There were times when I felt very aware of the inserts. True test will be after many skates to see if I can get to the point where I don't notice that my skates feel different. For what it's worth, skating in MX3's and the shim made it too tight a fit. I'm also not attaching them and find that they stay put just fine while allowing for easy removal for drying outside of the skate.
  15. First time I skated on FBV I thought I had no edges. Mustering up some courage I decided to skate hard and make some sharp cuts and stops. I then realized that what I was first experiencing was the glide factor associated with FBV. Moving from 100/50 to 90/75 is going to get you less bite. In fact, quite a bit less bite.
  16. I appreciate the honest response. While there are several skates out there that when sized right do a good job of eliminating negative space, there are others that do not. Still debating giving it a try, but certainly following with great interest.
  17. So, a relatively new product and concept with a very small sampling size to date. Waiting to hear from some who have used the insert and felt no difference, or did not care for it.
  18. I had my steel profiled with a forward pitch so I didn't notice a difference. You can do that or add a 3mm heel lift if you're looking to maintain the forward pitch of the CXN.
  19. I made the switch from Mako to 1X and now MX3 smoothly. Having never skated in a Vapor boot I was eager to try out the 1X, but have transitioned back to Supreme which is a better fit for my foot type. Supreme is going to wrap better than the Vapor. From my experience the injected lacing system performs better than the traditional facing/eyelets, but I wouldn't say it provides more forward flex.
  20. Piling on here...you should be proud of your accomplishments so far. Just keep skating and getting a feel for your edges and try not to do too much at once.
  21. Why are you buying songs that you don't want to listen to?
