Still on the fence as to whether or not I like the difference in fit they provide, but not willing to ditch them either at this time.
-
Agree totally. Lack of educating many retail employees also hurts. Whether Bauer, CCM, or Graf, many of those manufacturers' skates are not unbearable out of the box when it comes to fit. The Mako is right out unbearable and difficult to get on unless put in the skate oven for a few minutes, a step most shop employees are not willing to do.

Tried them out for the first time last night. There were times when I felt very aware of the inserts. True test will be after many skates to see if I can get to the point where I don't notice that my skates feel different. For what it's worth, skating in MX3's and the shim made it too tight a fit. I'm also not attaching them and find that they stay put just fine while allowing for easy removal for drying outside of the skate.

First time I skated on FBV I thought I had no edges. Mustering up some courage I decided to skate hard and make some sharp cuts and stops. I then realized that what I was first experiencing was the glide factor associated with FBV. Moving from 100/50 to 90/75 is going to get you less bite. In fact, quite a bit less bite.

I appreciate the honest response. While there are several skates out there that when sized right do a good job of eliminating negative space, there are others that do not. Still debating giving it a try, but certainly following with great interest.

So, a relatively new product and concept with a very small sampling size to date. Waiting to hear from some who have used the insert and felt no difference, or did not care for it.

I had my steel profiled with a forward pitch so I didn't notice a difference. You can do that or add a 3mm heel lift if you're looking to maintain the forward pitch of the CXN.

I made the switch from Mako to 1X and now MX3 smoothly. Having never skated in a Vapor boot I was eager to try out the 1X, but have transitioned back to Supreme which is a better fit for my foot type. Supreme is going to wrap better than the Vapor. From my experience the injected lacing system performs better than the traditional facing/eyelets, but I wouldn't say it provides more forward flex.

learning hockey at an advanced age

Piling on here...you should be proud of your accomplishments so far. Just keep skating and getting a feel for your edges and try not to do too much at once. -
Why are you buying songs that you don't want to listen to?

Congrats Badger. Fallon is a great company. Good luck and stay safe out there...

Try going to the next shallower hollow for your next skate. My first skate on mine on 3/4's felt as if I was skating on a 1/2". Took me a few skates to overcome that, but now have them dialed in.

Just use a thin writing instrument and avoid angling inwards or outwards excessively and should you be all set. It's easy to overthink the tracing.

And if you do notice a difference it can easily be fixed with profiling. -
Needs wax, sealant, and then a coating!

Eagle post their catalogue right on their website in both English and French. http://eaglehockey.com/wp-content/uploads/eaglecat2015_English.pdf -
Sorry to hear about Chico. He will forever be a part of MSH.

Yes, performance will be pretty much the same. The changes listed were made to address some issues that some wearers experienced. Those that I know that went from Mako to Mako II like them even more...

The "revolutionary" channel Z skate sharpening by Prosharp
mojo122 replied to Ivan's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Not knocking it, but when I tried it I felt the glide was the same as FBV, but I felt the edge control using FBV was better than that of the Z-Channel. I would however take the Z over Blademaster's flat bottom version. -
I don't have a problem with the way VT did the testing but do take exception to their inference that every player suffers a number of concussions each season. That's what sets the fear of every parent in motion. My hope is that studies like this help direct the R & D to further improvements, which as a consumer I have confidence that it will. What will probably not change is that you will continue to have those customers that: 1) Will buy the most expensive helmet regardless of fit because it must be the most protective based on the price tag. 2) Will buy the cheapest helmet regardless of fit because they do not want to spend money on a helmet 3) Will buy the one that they think they look better in regardless or price and fit. Retailers should just stick with recommending helmet based on fit and hope the consumer takes the information presented into their decision making process.
