Step had them instock a while ago, so I would imagine any store with a Step account could order them for you.

I had one many moons ago. Was a really nice wedgy toe curve with a 5.5-6 lie.

When I purchased mine, that was one of the features but I think they're referring to how the boot shell moulds around the high arch area. I have sidas foot beds in mine as well, it's a great combo. I don't think using superfeet in your VH's is a good idea unless you want to rebake the boots as well. Superfeet have a rised heel and will change the angle of how your heel sits in the boot. Alternatively you can modify superfeet fairly easily by shaving them down or just using the arch with other foot beds.

Based on what the guy at the store said, yes. I haven't skated on them, so I can't say for sure.

I've never tried them but was checking them out and comparing them to the Step Edge steel. The LHS owner said them sharpen well and are good quality steel but had less steel when I compared them directly to the Step's. I ended up getting the Step black steel for my Edge holders and couldn't be happier with them.

I would love to try it, but I'm not going to throw money at a stick because it's light and has purple graphics. Not saying this is anyway your fault @MrData but seems like a really weird way to market a new stick with no solid information on it.

I would disagree with this having used both curves. Sure if you look at it from the specs online I could see why you would say that, but the pocket (curve) is different spots and makes the blade play quite differently. The Malkin pro is quite similar to the old Gionta (has less loft and the pocket is slightly more mid- toe instead of toe). Another option is the True TC3 which has more loft but plays very similar to the Gionta/ W10 On another note @MrData or @Stephen7 what's the scoop on the new LT stick? I saw pictures but no specs or details except it's the lightest option to date.

I picked up 2 Nasty's and one blade in the stiff flex. Personally I found the the blade to have a dead type feel, not dampened like the One95. I didn't like it much at first but after using it more I'm starting to get used to it. I couldn't imagine how dead the regular blade flex feels. @Sid @Giraffe14 How is the finish around where the blade inserts into the shaft? I just looked at mine today and noticed a decent sized chunk missing off one side. I've had a bunch of Base tapered blades before and know they normal taper out leaving a gap, but this is way more extreme and only on one side

Did anyone pick up the Kovalev pro curve? If how are you finding it and which stick and blade flex did you choose?

Mounting holders on hockey skates for over pronation
malcb33 replied to smu's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
It really sounds like you need to find yourself a set of the old MLX skates or just a set of the holders to mount on a new pair of skates. If you don't already know, MLX were the predecessor to the Mako and made by Scott VH for MLX before they were sold to Easton and Scott started VH. MLX holders could be moved about 3mm either way (inside or outside) as the rivet holes were oval shaped (on the holders). MLX also used a type of T-nut which didn't have very aggressive teeth so they were OK with composite soles. You can't really see them here as the have the metal mounting brackets over the holes, but you can see how the holders are shaped around the oval holes to allow the movement. -
That doesn't sound too positive :(

I used the Kovalchuk pro variants for a few years. While I really like it, the curve definitely has it's downsides too. Personally I think the old Warrior Gionta is a much more user friendly version of the Kovlachuk pro, which I think would appeal to a wider user base. Between that and the Kreps/ E28 I think the demographic is covered. Apparently Kovalchuk is using a E28 himself these days...... I'll see if I can post some pics of a Kreps and Kovalchuk pro side by side.

The kovalchuk is indeed a big toe curve, a little too big IMO. The lie isn't that low at a 5 on the Easton scale, but slightly lower than a E28. It's fairly comparable to the E28 in how it plays, but I find has a deeper toe and is only very slightly open.

Base Hockey shafts, blades and new features

Is that the rounded shaft shape? I guess if STX's new offering is popular enough, anything is possible- 114 replies

A polar fibre RH Kovalev Nasty sounds awfully tempting right now. If I didn't have a stack of True TC3 to get through you would have a good chunk of my money! haha- 114 replies

Kinda, think about if a BC28 was extended out, like a stretch limousine. Haha The Kovalev is more mellow than BC28/ Kreps with more rocker on the heel and extended about 1"-1.5" the middle of the blade (flat part).

I think its just as open. The angle that the picture was taken of my Perron "big toe" kinda hides how open it is.

Excellent pic! The square tiles really help give perspective as well. That looks the same as the Perron heel kink pattern I had. It's only a slight heel kink and I liked the version a lot, second though to the big toe version.

@Stephen7 at that angle I can't exactly but it looks very close (maybe a touch more open) to the regular Perron pattern, but flipped obviously. Would it be possible to take a pic from directly above the blade rather than looking down the shaft?

Here's two Perron's and some comparison pics with a True TC3. Perron (what I call his) "Big Toe" on the left and "regular" pattern on the right. I'm 99% sure the regular Perron pattern is the mirrored version of the KOV1 pic Stephen posted Perron regular on right, True TC3 on left TC3 on top, Perron on bottom My apologies about the picture orientation. Photobucket is being a pain in the a$$

I've used half a dozen Perron sticks with a few different curves including a heel kink version, normal one (exactly like the top one Stephen posted but RH) a slightly bigger toe curve version and a mini Hossa version (more open). I'm pretty sure I have a few of the blades from the broken sticks still kicking around and will try to post a pic. The lie is tough to nail down due to the huge rocker but I found the Perrons played around a 5-5.25 Not sure if the actual Kovalev pros has a higher lie though.

Nice! I really hope this works out. Are we supposed to vote which pattern we like better (KOV1 or 2)? Is the only difference the slight heel kink on the KOV2 pattern? Have you got a picture of them side by side?

Base Hockey shafts, blades and new features
malcb33 replied to Stephen7's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
That's sad news. The polarfibre grip is by far my favourite! It took me years to build up the courage to try it since a lot of people said it puts extra wear on your gloves, but I didn't find it that bad and the benefits totally outweigh any extra wear.- 114 replies
