Step steel blades brittle/chipping every skate!
beerleaguecaptain replied to bangerjc's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
wow... never had anything like that happen. -
STEP 1 - Listen and learn!! STEP 2 - Listen more! OK.... now that this is established, the head coach will set the parameters. Look for his lead and follow. Hopefully he will review the practice plan with you before. If he asks for input feel free. If not be prepared to execute. Get the cones ready. Help position the players. During practice, if there is something you can help a player with then do so. As far as changing the perceptions of other players, that happens over time and it is earned. Be serious but approachable. Don't push the envelope but you are not their friend anymore either. Be patient. Be a teacher. Enjoy the experience, work hard. Get the cones out. Be prepared to demo all the drills and run them to perfection.

There are a number of FB groups about buying/selling and trading jerseys. You can gauge value pretty well there. -
Thinking of you Steve.

Great to see you connecting with us through MSH. With 5 sets of STEP in my circulation I am a huge advocate. MSH is a great way to get feedback from players! Welcome aboard!!

P46 is now a special order to retailers.

Same here... I am comfortable and wasting that money to replace what working seems like a waste. When I see something innovative - like when I bought my Warrior Alpha gloves - that was fun. I agree. I've got plenty of joy for the game though at my talent level goals and sauce passes are few and far between!

I spent years looking for the perfect shoulder pads and finally made up some frankenpads that I love so that settled that. Shins and elbows are now comfy thanks to a good recommendation from JR. Like my gloves too but I guess they will blow up eventually.... I guess I'm at the why bother phase. Kinda sad.

I've been playing for 17 years now... I started late in life. One of the things I loved about the game was the cool gear. I've bought tons of shit over the years and I know many of you gear whores have done the same. But now I find myself uninspired... bored perhaps.... or am I finally just satisfied with that I have? Have any of you also gotten stagnant on the gear hunt? Is it the lack of truly new offerings? Thoughts?

Yes we do. In fact I am calling you personally tomorrow at 3am!!

Update.... I have now played 3 games on the Quad 1. The first game I had increased stability up front and more confidence going into high traffic player where contact would occur. Game two also felty good but I think I used a bit too much stone. I was grabbing a bit and turning was compromised. Last game was the charm. Lighter stone and maybe some of that new edge is wearing off too. Turns and crossovers were great and stability too. Very pleased. At some point I will pop in a Quad0 to compare it too.

Bought a long sleeve tee shirt.... yeah!! Hope it's fire retardant.

I wonder if each manufacturer could have their own channel where people could interact in a forum with them and they could post their latest offerings. Maybe even video breakdowns of products.

Triple Radius - 9'/50mm/10.5' Steel:STEP 272 Hollow:100/50 FBV About Me: I have been playing 17 years since the age of 34. As a player that came to the game later in life I struggle with edgework, high speed stability and tight turns. I am typically strong on my skates in battles in front. I have been looking to move towards shallower hollows to increase glide while still maintaining a confident edge and increasing stability. About a year ago I moved from a 9’ rocker LS2 to STEP Quad 0. I felt that the Quad 0 was pretty revolutionary for me and enabled me to go from playing on a 100/50 (3/8 equivalent) to a 100/50 (1/2” equivalent). I found I had more steel on the ice, especially under my heel and that my turns, push off and stability were better. While more stable than my 9’ rocker, however, I still felt I had room for improvement. That is what led to my participation in the Pro Sharp project. Review: I came off the ice having just tried and been pretty comfortable with the Quad 1. While I had a fairly decent idea what the Quad 1 would feel like, I had no clue what glide would feel like. I took a first step on the ice and immediately was confronted with a radically different feel from either of the quads. I think the best way for me to describe it is “water skis!” This profile felt radically long… so much so that I felt incredible bite and depth in the ice. It was very uncomfortable, but I was committed to following the protocol, so I stuck through it. The first few laps were spent just working on pushing off and then progressed to crossovers. The increased bite had an opposite impact on my stability and instead of making me more stable it made me less so. My balance was compromised and transitions from front to back were nearly impossible and gave me quite a fright. Needless to say I couldn’thave been happier when my 15 minutes was up!! Mobility:1 Stability: 2 Speed: 2 Acceleration: 2 Other profiles on deck: Having tried this, the quad 1 and quad 0 I will try the quad 1 in a game and also get a freshly profiled quad 0 to compare it to.

Quad 1 - 6’-9’-12’-15’. Steel:STEP 272 Hollow:100/50 FBV About Me: I have been playing 17 years since the age of 34. As a player that came to the game later in life I struggle with edgework, high speed stability and tight turns. I am typically strong on my skates in battles in front. I have been looking to move towards shallower hollows to increase glide while still maintaining a confident edge and increasing stability. While more stable than my 9’ rocker, however, I still felt I had room for improvement. That is what led to my participation in the Pro Sharp project. Review: The Quad 1 was the first set of steel I chose to demo because I wanted to see the difference between the 0 and the 1. My first impression on my first strides was that it certainly felt longer in the toe and somewhat more in the back. The truth is that this is not the case…. The rear of the Quad 1 is longer and the front is the same. Nevertheless, that is how it felt to me. My first few laps were a bit choppy as I got used to the longer radius but I quickly got comfortable. Push offs were solid and crossovers had more stability than the quad 0. Transitions were smooth, feeling, feeling more or less identical to the quad 0. After my 15 minutes I felt that this was steel worth trying furtherin game play and might be worth spending more time with. Mobility:3.5 Stability: 4 Speed: 3.5 Acceleration: 4 Other profiles on deck: The next set up in my trial program is a “glide” radius - 9'/50mm/10.5'

Not sure I can help there other than to raise the question of why members both on the forum and on reddit have raised questions about your credibility. Perhaps it’s because you are too outspoken and present yourself as an expert in many areas. Perhaps it’s a style thing. Regardless for your own sake it is worthy of some self examination. Or, if as you say, you don’t care, then ignore me and others. That’s fine too.
