  1. Did u bake them? The big issue I had with my as1 (retail) was that my pinky toe was aggravated by the piece of plastic on the toe cap where the toe cap met the boot. I had to put a piece of foam there to alleviate it ..
  2. Depends on the material. Thermoformable materials shouldnt really go back to its normal position if heated to the right temperature and allowed to cool completely. I do agree with the getting something that's too big to go smaller though, depending on how much it has to reduce by.. Ccms custom process just shows how it's not really that custom in terms of the actual fit if they can only make boots a certain heel cup size without pre fabricating the shell.
  3. If they had a d width boot and high pressure moulded it to ur last wouldn't it technically form to your smaller heel? The benefit of the high pressure moulding they use is the ability to have the boot form very closely to your last so it's pretty much as close as you're gonna get to a perfect fit.
  4. Thanks for the input guys. I'm staying away from socks that are ultra thin like thinees as I've already tried those and don't like them. All I'm really looking for is a sock that's not too thick like athletic socks but not as thin as thinees... Biggest thing is that they aren't super slick like some polyester socks can be since my skate liners are clarino and the two materials together seem to cause some slippage. My UA liners are actually perfect once worn in a bit and the socks roughen up on the outside a bit and aren't so smooth and soft .. but I wanted to see if there was something that wild fit that way out of box. I might be SOL..
  5. Bumping this bc I go through diff socks like no one's business. Thinees were way too thin. The UA hockey liner is comfy but a bit too much padding in the sole and heel than I like bc it feels a bit bunchy in my heel with skates on. Once they wear a bit and get a bit thin I really like them though. Tried Hanes cotton over calf socks which are decent esp for the price but maybe a touch on the thick side. I want to try swiftwick... But looking at Howie's new skate socks, they almost looks identical. Can someone confirm whether the Howie's socks are actually made by swiftwick?? https://swiftwick.com/collections/hockey https://howieshockeytape.ca/collections/skate-socks/products/pro-style-skate-socks
  6. Just get Howie's and be done with it. A lot of non waxed are thick and poofy like those. I personally like waxed laces even with my trues bc I don't like the poofy look.
  7. As in what brand? If so they seem like elite unwaxed to me but I'm probably wrong.... I think it was posted here a few pages back.
  8. After a couple mths you may want to rebake one more time to really dial it in even more, after its broken in a bit more since things pack in a bit such as the tongue etc. Totally up to you though. That's what I did.
  9. It's all about just getting used to the new boot feel. The on ice performance is different from how it feels walking around etc, partially because of what I described regarding the deeper heel pocket. And with retail skates for some ppl they are either painfully tight or really loose. Those who opt for true usually had some issues they couldn't solve with retail skates, and even though the retail skates werent comfortable and didn't fit "properly", you get used to it and think that the fit was how the skate "should" feel. It's really not comparable and some ppl can't adapt. As I said before it's not for everyone.
  10. Stick em in the fridge to accelerate the curing. I know SVH says a few hrs minimum but I would throw them in the fridge until your game to be safe.
  11. This. I couldn't believe how much it forces me into a more forward bend, but also what surprised me was that it felt natural and I didn't need to really adjust too much to get used to it. And also longer stronger strides instead of smaller choppy ones. I felt like I was slower bc my legs weren't moving quickly but I was winning races
  12. From the pics it looks like the new tongue.
  13. Ya but these companies already use it on their protective line, ie. Ccm's As1line
  14. I have the ft1 shins and they are very light and low profile but I have a feeling they aren't as protective as others in the same price range.
  15. It's fine to lace it all the way. Just safer not to in the event they lace it up too tight.
  16. Where did you go to btw. Might have been mentioned earlier but I don't remember. It amazes me how incompetent some dealers' staff members are.... Even the place I went to for my second pair of trues, they have sold the most in the west coast since the VH days. The staff I got was on a weekend and the two main guys that do the scans werent there. At least this guy I went to did the opposite of what happened to you. Only baked it for 4-5 mins Max, and the boots were barely warm. At least he laced them only at 60ish% and pulled out to the side. He probably didn't know trues had completely different moulding instructions than Bauer/CCM.
  17. Just re looked at these pics and it looks like your eyelets may have pulled the facing bit? Not sure if just the lighting and angle but if you look at eyelets 5,6,7, you can see the imprint behind them...not sure if it's bc of how hard the guy tightened the laces or just the angle of the picture.
  18. Makes sense. There are tweaks u can do to flare the eyelets out which make putting your foot in easier and also easier to thread the laces on the top two eyelets... I'd still rebake without the red insole to give you that bit more depth. Here's just a few vids that may help you. There's more if you go to their channel.
  19. The thing with step is that there's more steel AND you go longer in between sharpenings. So that saves you money on two different aspects. The steel should technically last as long as your skates unless they somehow break.
  20. Sock thickness can have a very noticeable factor in fitment. I can't use thinnies or my feet slide around in my skates like crazy. Could also be attributed to how slick the thinnies are as well. They feel almost too smooth.
  21. I was going to mention the socks as well but couldn't really see how thick they are. If he is using typical athletic socks those can be pretty thick . I'd get a pair of socks meant specifically for hockey
  22. I upgraded from sb black to as blacksteel. Night and day difference. The SB black was probably worse than steps stainless. I don't like the orthomoves at all and I have used superfeet yellow and carbons without complaints. Orthomoves imp feel a lot diff. Only up side is the adjustable arch support but the overall feel of the orthomoves I couldn't get used to esp compared to speed plates which I love.
  23. Lol glad that simple fix helped alot. The Trues all come with the tongues shoved into the toe box. I personally like it as I like almost no space in there but it's all preference. So the res insolea actually made your volume issues feel better? How? If you also try over under lacing it does a lot less pressing down onto the tongue itself. I can't do over under bc it doesn't offer as snug of a feel for me. It does a great job locking the laces, but the under over gives me the tension I want against the tongue... So I'm pretty much the opposite problem as you!
  24. Did you adjust the tongue so it's not so low? Personally if it causes pain not even skating I would just rebake them first. Pain when just lacing them up isn't a good sign. If you even noticed that they were laces too tight during the bake then that's a sign. I know you're probably hesitant but if just rebake them at home in ur oven.
  25. It doesn't look horrible. With a rebake and less tightening of the laces the facing will likely flare out more and give u a bit more depth. Pencil test is really just a guideline anyways but if it's painful even after rebaking and no red insole, then obviously you should get a remake. My buddy has club feet and always have lace bite from volume issues. His trues were way off in terms of depth but also length on one skate. His remake worked out fine. The one thing I don't understand about true is that I think they rely too much on the thermoformability of their skate where they won't really adjust the facing height where it will always provide the same wrap no matter what your foot shape and depth is. Imo if it were 100% custom everyone should get a calculated facing height in relation to their foot depth but it seems like for the most part the facings are a standard size and they just work for the majority of ppl who fall within a certain range. I've seen many ppl fail the pencil test but they can get away with it because it doesn't cause pain.
