badger_14 601 Report post Posted March 19, 2015 Had a barium swallow study today. 0/10, do not recommend. There is not enough ginger ale in the known universe to erase the taste from my mouth. On the other hand, watching video x-rays of myself swallowing is actually pretty cool.

badger_14 601 Report post Posted March 20, 2015 Hope it is nothing majorA "Barium Swallow" sounds like something you ask a Hooker for on the streets of Prague...I'm probably going to be referred to some other specialist with lots of letters after their name, but no one seems urgently concerned, so that's good.Have you ever seen that cheesy scifi/horror movie "The Stuff"? Imagine having to eat that while having x-rays taken.
kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) I really need a change of scenery. I've honestly never felt so alone before. I am so busy with school that I hardly have anytime to work (which means I literally have no money). I am grateful for my parents being able to help me out (free lodging), but because I have no money, I'm pretty much isolated to my house. I take my MCAT in September and then send my primary applications to my target schools. Hopefully I am out of here in the months that follow that. I'm miserable. I'm miserable. you need some confidence and a fresh/another perspective.Your position isn't that bad, imagine all those kids who are living on their own with no help/money. I remember the girl who sat beside me in university and she was on her own. She rented her own room and paid for university on her own. When she wasn't in class she would always be working at the local coffee shop to pay her bills. There was no money/time for discretionary spending such as going out to eat or fun activities like watching a movie.Be careful what you ask for you, you might just get it.But don't worry about it, I gone through the same thing. I was studying in university and stayed up to midnight most nights at the library for four years straight. I gave up a lot of social activities and fun during those years, but I don't regret it and it really opened the doors for me.Things can really be worse off in life, just this past week I was reading/watching the news and apparently parents were climbing up the walls of a building in India to help their kids cheat. I understand the cheating part, but if someone slips and falls from the building its probably game over.http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-31998343

Is where you are walkable at all? Even just get outside and commune with the trees, or something. Try to get a little time for yourself, something fun - run, walk, shoot pucks, bird watch, walk to the drugstore, listen to good tunes - every day. Something to look forward to and clear your brain. Sorry to hear you're in a rough patch.

IPv6Freely 2092 Report post Posted March 24, 2015 The best part is that we're out the deductible unless they can collect from the at-fault driver's insurance. Trouble is, he's from Mexico. Good luck collecting... Mind blowing. So a guy hits me, out of no fault of my own, and I'm out $1000 out of pocket. That's incredible.
badger_14 601 Report post Posted March 24, 2015 Immensely frustrated that my mom (who is currently physically incapable of driving) won't let my dad take me and the car to a nice, isolated parking lot to practice getting used to controlling a 2,000lb death machine the controls. She's driven that car maybe once since she bought it a year-ish ago, and no one's driven it at all in the past two or three months. It's not even a scary-fancy-fast car either, it's a nice, sedate little honda accord.Currently, I'm paying for driving lessons myself, but even yesterday the instructor was like yeah, you need some time in a parking lot, because you're not used to this machine and you're going to get hurt or hurt someone else. Faster I get good at driving, faster I get my license, faster I get that nice EMT job and get out of here. Argh. (I mean I get her being protective of the car, but the car has been rotting in a snowbank since the end of January)

Isolation just exacerbates those two issues immensely. You are putting in the work and time now that will pay off with a wonderful future. This of all the people you will be able to help after you graduate med school. Keep plugging away!! ^^^This is the only thing keeping me going. chippa13 1844 Report post Posted March 25, 2015 Not having money shouldn't be a reason for being isolated. It doesn't cost anything to have a buddy over to watch a game or movie or to just hang out and kill a night. Maybe catch some live music at a local coffee shop. You can have a night out for the price of a cup of joe and a scone. You could join a study group at school and/or find a support group to help deal with the depression or OCD. There are plenty of ways to be among people that won't cost anything.

badger_14 601 Report post Posted March 28, 2015 Yesterday, the driving instructor got the wrong street, and called me from five miles away on the wrong side of two highways. Today, I get home from work expecting to grab some lunch and chill before my driving time at 4, only to find I'm apparently scheduled for 2. I know full well I scheduled for 4pm, I wrote it down while talking to the driving school when I initially scheduled the sessions. Argh.
