theelite 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2010 I'm Asian and I think the reason that the OP indicated that he was Asian because typically, we're smaller, shorter, thinner, with less muscle mass. Lots to do with demographics too... for example, I'm 26, 5'8", 185lbs, born and raised in Canada. If you were to take an average of all the other Asians who were 26, and 5'8", the average is likely that they're under 140lbs in weight, especially if they were born and raised in Asian countries. the_sock 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2010 It's funny to hear Asian race, but like theelite says, there are generally two types of Asians. There are the ones who are smaller build and those who are North American built. I am the later. I'm 6'0", 200 pounds and of Korean heritage (I think of myself as Canadian). Many of the Asians I have played hockey with are much smaller height and build than I. I am a giant when I'm in Chinatown. It's amazing to see how a different diet and culture can change the body.Oh, and I still use a 75 flex (77 with Bauer) stick.
chrisplosions 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2010 lol sorry for the racial discrimination guys, i was just being stereotypical like others mentioned about most asians being short and thin. but anyways...for now i've decided to stick with my 65 cut down to 85 flex int stick..i'd like to try out a junior..but im gonna wait till i can find one nice cheap. Neo5370 132 Report post Posted August 1, 2010 Irish curse.Something other than fire works spread over to you guys eh? lol, dont' bug, I"m chinese. glad I found this thread. Anyways, for the OP; I'm 5'6'', 150-160 depending on how much taco bell I've had lately (damn you late night/value menu) and I've had good luck w/ an int. one95 OPS cut down by about 4-5 inches. I know I"m a bit heavier than you but my wristers are also strong (for me at least) w/ a junior easton UL w/ a 6 in plug which I find to be stiffer than the cut down int one95 to be honest. Expermiented w/ a junior z-bub w/ the normal 3 in. end plug (total of 43), stickhandling and receiving hard passes was weird, like playing w/ a wet noodle by wristers were niiiice.I've got a phobia bout junior OPS' breaking if I use them even though I've only snapped a junior shaft once in my life (28 yrs old) and it was severly cut/dented to begin w/.Pls. keep us updated if you do try the jr. 8-0-8, curious to see if I should gamble the money on one myself. bobapower 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2015 Warrior makes Int sticks with 55 Flex.I'm 5'5" 147 LB. Been using Dolo Int 70 flex for past few years. Like many, I cut a ton off my stick so the flex is probably 85+.I recently switched to a covert DT3 55 flex, cut a 1-2" longer than my previous sticks. I can definitely feel the flex and really rip the wrist and snap shots with a lot less effort.I've always told people (re Int sticks), it's not just the velocity, but the biggest difference for me is the accuracy. At 55 flex, I can shoot with better form (not having to lean everything into it). I can get my shots off quicker too.It does feel a little whippier at first when Stick handling and passing, but you get used to it fast.I will stick with 55 flex for the foreseeable future. Ps12 11 Report post Posted August 11, 2015 I'm 5'4" and i like to cut my sticks to 49". Warrior 55 flex is 57 "Easton 60 flex is 53.5"This is based on measurements from IW website. Which stick would be whippier when cut down? Assuming same type of kick point. I currently use a 57" 60 flex ccm cut down to 51 but would prefer it to be shorter
qmechanic 17 Report post Posted August 12, 2015 The older Warrior 55 flex sticks are 55", if you want something even whippier. In particular, I have the Dynasty AX1 LT and Covert DT1 LT intermediate and they are both 55" and 55 flex.
Ps12 11 Report post Posted August 12, 2015 Thanks for the heads up. I went to check on pricing a warrior ax1 lt. However... I see sherwood has a 55 int 57 " with the 4 inch flex free... Although my ek15 felt a tad stiffer cut down in the I think i know what i want to try now.

Davetronz 109 Report post Posted August 12, 2015 To the OP, I play goal on a team full of shorter Asian guys. A lot of them have been using sticks that are way too stiff or long for quite a while. I've been slowly converting them to the correct, shorter, lesser flex sticks with great results. Most of them have better shots now and are paying less for sticks with the same durability. sss1987 55 Report post Posted August 13, 2015 I'm 5'4" 150lbs and use a cut down intermediate 60-65 flex stick. Im using an easton Mako 2. Ive also got a bauer nexus 4000 60 flex.. that thing is whippy.
MikeWhy 39 Report post Posted August 14, 2015 Yeah we need to get off this whole stating what ethnicity you are thing. A 5'6 kid from the east coast in the U.S. doesn't have a clear cut advantage over a 5'6 guy of the asian descent at bending a composite stick solely because of heritage. Anyways I think you guys are focusing way too much on how whippy the stick should be. Like puck_it said, the stick doesn't have to be at a 90 degree angle for it to be considered "flexing". I used to use a 77 flex cut to a 96 flex, i decided to go up and get an 87 and cut it to a 102. Receiving passes feels nicer and more solid as well as shooting feels very consistent. At the age and height you guys are at, I feel you guys are getting nothing close to what you could get out of a senior or even intermediate stick with a flex rating near the 70-80ish mark. fbvnyc 12 Report post Posted August 16, 2015 This Asian thing is pretty funny reading through the thread. The only stereotype I've picked up on(over the past 20 years) based on all the teams I've played on is that Asian players usually compensate for our size by being an average or above average skater. This added agility in theory should result in the ability to trasition weight better while shooting/passing. I'm Asian 5'9 165. I consider myself to be amongst the small spectrum of players I compete against. Currently I'm using an uncut QR1 75 flex. I would like to try a a junior stick, but I regularly am breaking senior sticks. When it all comes down to it, adapting to gear is one of the hardest parts of the game. Sticks always change since they are probably the most commonly changed piece of gear.
