I thought he only wore the Jofa 235 in practices or All-Star games.

Scotty - I've been told that every EQ50 in a pro's hands is the retail version (at this point)

He actually used the 235 basically his whole time in the KHL up until now, he'd used an 8 or 6k in a few practices but that was about it. Guess he wasn't too worried about the checking overseas.

And I'm curious as to the players' take on the customized balance system on the EQ50s, aren't their sticks already customized so heavily that the balance thing would be redundant?

im sure you've been around here long enough to know that just because it says EQ50 on the stick doesn't necessarily mean that it's off the rack.

Weird that Heatley has an EQ50. Easton's had him pushing the Stealth line for a long time. Apparently though, his S19 is actually an SE16. I doubt he's used a real Stealth since the taper become elliptical.

I think their strategy is to put the branding that retail customers are less familiar with on the players who endorse them. Even if they don't use that model, it allows Easton to build up cred with the new line.

I still can't believe they're moving away from the synergy name though.

looks like a yellow ST

Has been for quite a while now. The sticks are the latest version of the ST and have the corresponding graphics, just with a yellow background color, which he's insisted on ever since he won the Hart with the old yellow synergy. Just a little superstition, as I understand it.

The yellow on the bottom is weird, it's painted. Not sure if Easton does it or they do it here but it starts to come off in a way that only paint comes off. The all yellow STs are the usual Easton coating. Which is more like what we're used to seeing, that comes off more like powdercoat would rather than paint(if that makes sense).

They aren't.

SyNergy logo is still on the stick. It's just not dominant, neither is the Stealth on S19.

haha absolutely, I know most sticks (S17, S19 and all that) are repaints of older/other sticks, but im sure players have tried the shelf version as a test, and that was what I was referring to

so i dont know how many if any saw the retail 11k yet but it looks like this,

ac0d5db2.jpg

This is the black and chrome lettering side so you get the jist of how it looks

The sides of the sticks are opposite in color, one is black with chrome lettering and the other is chrome with black lettering,

The blade features a new technology I guess ( pure fiber) and it looks very weird.

Dont mind the spoon or paper in the picture.

hmm, I've always wondered why St. Louis used yellow sticks, thanks for the insight.

There's actually a bit more to it. During the cup year St Louis won the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Lester B. Pearson Award. By far, his best year to date. St Louis was all over the place gear-wise at the time, Koho gloves, itech helmet, Tackla pants, Bauer skates, Easton grip OPS. CCM tried to bring him in but with no luck but Bauer brought him in and named the PM9 after him. After the lockout St Louis used a Vapor XXXlite and was fully in Bauer(except protective), he had a HORRIBLE start. After a while he used the XXXlite in games and a "SL" in warmups/practice. Later he went to the "SL" in warmups/practice and an all-yellow ST for games, the only print was "26 St Louis" on the shaft. Later he went to a ST with the old Synergy grip yellow graphics, then orange graphics, then back to the yellow graphics. He tried a very yellow one95 when they were first hitting the scene in camps but never used it in a game. That year he started with a standard yellow ST but almost immediately changed to the current very yellow ST.

The weird thing... he is noticeably more productive with a yellow stick.

In other words, 90% of hockey is half mental. Actually they are Yogi's words. I met St. Louis in 2005 at Bauer in St. Jerome. I heard the story of the second Vapor XXXs they built for him with the extra eyelet they put on by mistake that screwed him up until he finally noticed it. He is built like a fire hydrant.

Its easier for his linemates to find him when he's hiding behind Hal Gill's thigh when you can just look for the yellow stick.

Kind of reminds me of when Dion Phaneuf couldn't give up that old green Synergy. I guess he finally settled on an SE16.

I think St. Louis sounds a little more extreme. There was also Mike Green with his CNTs

Here's a video of Oreskovich in a Reebok helmet. I don't know half as much as you guys so not going to say anything. If it's nothing then just ignore this post.

Looks like the new 8K, which is basically the old 8K with the new wordmark.

With the Bauer 5000/Nike Bauer 5500 now discontinued, can the players that have worn that helmet in the past (ie. St. Louis, E. Staal, etc) continue to wear that helmet if they choose or do they have to wear a different helmet (the Bauer 7500 being the obvious alternative)?

The players will wear whatever they want to wear.

See Teemu Selanne and the Jofa bucket or Jagr and those DR gloves.

Not entirely.

Rule 9.5 from the NHL Rulebook

All players of both teams shall wear a helmet of design, material and construction approved by the League at all times while participating in a game, either on the playing surface or the players’ or penalty benches.

I have no idea what helmets are approved by the league, or whether the league grandfathers in players who wear an older style helmet that they would no longer permit, but the NHL determines whether a helmet meets the criteria or not. Whether or not they actually enforce that rule, I have no idea.

The 8k and 4k helmets that we got, at least in the American League, are the same as last year with just a Reebok wordmark sticker over the vector logo.
