Favourite Team

Recommended Posts

I have found that my blind allegiance to a particular team is something restricted to my younger years. Was a die-hard Bruins fan until they traded Orr to Chicago and then decide to back the Leafs since they were close and on TV every week. Never had a favourite for the next few decades. The last four years I have had different favourite teams based on a wide variety of reasons-the mix of players, their style of play etc. Decided to back the Red Wings when the won the Cup and then decided I liked the tenacity of the Penguins and went for them and they won the Cup the next year. Now, I have decided, contrary to my previously-stated Leafs support and its inherent loathing of all things Habs, to root for the Canadiens this year. Main reason is I live in Hamilton where their farm team is (for now) and really like some of their current players. Even bought a Habs practice jersey to match the pro-stock pants I snagged from the Bulldogs. Is this too fickle or do others mix it up?

I from Montreal but I never liked them before this year, I wasn't a big Koivu fan obviously. I loved the Ducks when I was younger because of Kariya and now my favorite teams are the Red Wings, the Flyers and the Canadiens. Oh and I'm one of the few in Montreal that don't hate the Bruins and Maple Leafs.

I've been a Penguin fan from birth. I was born in Pittsburgh in 1990 so as you can assume hockey was big in the Burgh at the time since the Pens were playing very well. Never once thought of rooting for anyone else even when they played awful(specially in 2003-2004). When I was younger I had other players that I liked not form the Pens but as I grew older I found it very hard to like any other players not from them. I've become more open to liking players from around the league. Ever since NHL 08 the Kings have been my 2nd favorite team.

I've been a Hawks fan for as long as I've really been into hockey, but I'd rather watch a great game they aren't playing in than watch a terrible Hawks game. Unfortunately, I had way too many years where that was the case.

I've always been a Pens fan since I was a kid. The first time I went into a Hockey store (my brother played, I didn't yet) and my mum bought me a Mario Lemieux poster, so they were my default choice!

I'm not a one-eyed fan though, and I enjoy the style of play of a lot of other teams more than I do the Pens, but the emotional attachment is there so they'll always be my team.

Flyers fan since started watching on TV with my dad in early 70's. Season ticket holders 78-96. Cheer for Yotes now since in AZ but will always bleed Orange & Black. Worst part of moving was giving up our tickets.

lived in NY, started playing hockey in 94, so...

other than hating the pens, caps, bruins, my second fav team is quite random.

There aren't any Western conference teams that I don't like as far as I remember.

I've always been a Flyers fan. My dad took me to a lot of Maine Mariners games as a kid. As the Flyers were their parent club at first, they became my favorite team. The Bruins have grown on me over the years and are now a reasonably close second. The Flyers will always be my favorite. I have also rooted for the parent clubs of any team that had their AHL team in Portland, Me. (Although this was tough when the Devils had their AHL affiliate there).

I grew up liking the Av's back in the glory days mostly for the mix of players and style of play (Sakic, Forsberg, Roy, etc.) Since those teams began to fall apart I've followed the Sabres.

I'm a diehard Kings fan. I grew up in San Diego and for years they were the only NHL team to have games aired on local channels. I always root for the Pens in the East. I love Mario when I was younger. Just that big stature and what he could do with or without the puck would blow me away. I don't really like anyone else.

I have been a Sharks fan since I went to my first game in the late 90's. I'm fortunate enough to live in a city that has a team; going to games and/or watching them on television is easily accessible. While the Sharks are my team for life, I can appreciate other great players no matter what team that they play on.

I subscribe to the Jerry Seinfeld theory of sports fandom and root for laundry, and have done so ever since I was 5-6 years old. It's been Bruins, Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and no one else for me.

At this point, I only have time to follow the Boston teams, so I would have an easier time telling you the leading scorer on the Providence B's than I could on the L.A. Kings.

Same here my big thing is I hate every team in the Eastern Conference but the Pens and I don't mind any team from the Western Conference. I usually rag on the Hawks though cause I have to live here in bandwagon central.

Nords and Devils fan since '90, then the Nords traded Sundin away. Adopted the Predators after going to school and living there for a few years.

I think I'll forever be a Bruins fan as that is the team I grew up with. Other teams that I'll pay attention to are the Sharks, moreso since the Thornton trade (damn you, Mike O'Connell), the Panthers, Yotes, and Kings for various reasons.

Life long Red Wings fan, but when a team puts a group of players that I like together I keep an eye on them. in '08 my second team was the Wild, in '09 it was the Bruins, last season once the Wings got knocked out of the playoffs I rooted for Chicago because of Hossa mostly, but I also am a fan of Toews, and was a fan of Kane but now that he's being a douche regularly, not so much. This year I think the Kings are going to get a lot of my attention.

Always, always a HABS fan. Guy La-Flower Power

Live in Alberta so Calgary would be second team and used to love cheering them on against Edmonton during the rough and tough years with Semenko, Nick Fotiu and Hunter beating the crap out of each other. Good times!!

Cheers,

Bruins since I was a kid. I used to root for the Leafs when they were in the western conference.

Can't imagine rooting for anyone else now. If I'm lucky enough to see them win the cup again then it will make all those lousy teams I had to endure worth it.

Always a fan of the Avs and Flyers, but when Forbserg left the Avs to go to the Flyers, it became a #1/#2 rather than a 1a/1b thing.

Cant see myself being dedicated to any other team than these two, though.
