2011-2012 Suspension thread

Recommended Posts

Even with his rep, I think tootoo was trying to get out of the way. By time he realizes he looses the puck, looks up sees miller, I think the jump is to try and get out of the way. I agree maybe if this happened before the Lucic hit/farther into the season I don't know if he would've gotten any games. Like you hear all the players/coaches say it's a fast game; tootoo did his best to try and get out of the way. Next time maybe he'll try spinning towards the slot instead of jumping.

I agree with this, but then a part of me is saying it's Tootoo.

I think the NHL took the easy way out by suspending tootoo. They caved to the public pressure and the comments from Buffalo. Booth didnt get suspended, Tootoo shouldnt of either.

Allegedly many of the GMs were not happy with the Lucic decision.

This is such a joke. Pacioretty, fistic, and tootoo got suspended for the result not the intent.

Also, some people here must be psychiatrists with their ability to assume player motive and read their minds in the moments before the hits.

From the first time I saw the hit, I didn't think Tootoo should get suspended and I still feel this way. Lucic open ices him and gets nothing. Tootoo drives the net hard, with the puck, and tries to avoid Miller (albeit, not the best way). The Shanahan video talks about how Tootoo looks up and has time to stop but he's about 4 feet away and it's being played in slow-mo. I don't think he could have avoided contact. Not a fan of this suspension, especially when I think what Lucic did was worse and could have been avoided completely.

It was pretty obvious tootoo would get suspended...Knee Jerk reactions are what the NHL does!

And maxamillion, I'm just describing what the play looked like to me.

I agree that Lucic was more deserving of a suspension. The more things change...

Tootoo had every intention of running Miller, otherwise, he would have stopped on the puck once it was poked away. One would have to be foolish to believe anything else in that situation.

I see that Fistric has been suspended for 3...waiting for Kronwall to be suspended for the rest of the season at the rate he throws a similar hit. The whole thing is absurd, even the 2 minute "roughing" penalty on the play.

from poke to impact is about a quarter to a half of a second. I believe he's trying to pull the puck back to his forehand between the defenders stick and his (tootoo's) body, lessening his reaction time when he see's the puck get poked. he looks up, sees miller, and tries to jump, a normal instinctive reaction. he's doing what's best for him in that situation but it's a hockey play. the defender has his arm around him, and he's going full flight. one would actually have to be foolish to assume intent in a situation that has happened in the past with no consequence past a 2 minute minor.

also, it's another youtube/slo-mo response videos. the video looks 1000x worse in slow motion because all reference of speed is eliminated. many hits have been disputed over the years because the slo mo video is all we ever see. not once did the MSG crew play the hit back at full speed.

I don't think I've ever seen a suspension for a spear, especially one that wasn't really severe. The refs missed the call, but there wasn't much of a windup and Neil is known for his over-acting. Porter could get a couple games, but I can't see any justification for suspending Ovechkin for that.

Downie left the bench in tonight's game to start a fight after Anisimov scored and used his stick to act like a gun...automatic ten games right?

If I remember correctly from Goddard jumping off in that one game vs the Isles then yes. Kinda a dumb thing for them to get pissed over, first the Omark SO goal and now this lol.
