Everyone use grip sticks now?

I understand its personal preference, but every year I go to buy a stick, I have a harder time finding the model I want without grip. Is that all anyone uses? I've never even considered using it... but seems like I have to now. Currently looking at the CCM Tacks and it seems they only did a grip model.

I hate grip as well but it seems to cut down costs all major stick companies are only offering the "non-grip" option with there top of the line stick. Unfortunately unless you would like to buy a top of the line stick you are going to have to get use to is.

On a more positive note I have learned that some sticks have more grip then others. Rite now I'm using a 30k ribcore and the grip on it really isn't so bad. Took about half a period to get use to is. Downside is it really escalates the process of beating up the palms of your gloves.

I hear you... when I played lacrosse I bought a grip shaft and hated it. I do buy top levels sticks, but even some of those aren't coming standard anymore - like the CCM Tacks.

Was just reading some guys use light sandpaper or throw baby powder on it to reduce the grip. I guess thats a decent option if I end up hating it.

Easiest way is probably to spray some clear coat on it.

Not a bad idea. I went ahead with the CCM Tacks. If I hate the grip... I'll deal. I'm sure its just a getting used to thing, which I hate to do with hockey equip.

yea it sucks, I prefer non grip and its harder and harder to find them. I just use a really light sandpaper and wetsand as much of the grip off as possible. Some stick companies are much worse then others when it comes to the tackiness.

I am in the same boat, really not a huge fan of grip sticks. I agree with iammerson, my CCM Ribcore is definitely less "grippy" than my Bauer Nexus.

Bauer offers most if not all of their sticks in a grip and non grip version. I prefer the non grip but with the Tactile Texture or Tac-Spiral you find on the MX3 and other previous Total Ones

Agreed. Although I am about to try a grip, I generally just liked the tactile finish. My most recent stick, the TotalOne NXG Vintage is completely smooth and it drives me nuts.

my T90 is like that I just candy cane taped it. Its not the same but offered a similar feel.

I was never a fan of grip sticks, but at least some of the newer grip sticks have had a grip coating that was between what I felt was way too sticky and the usual clear coat I liked. The grip on the Warrior QR1 and STX Stallion was/is actually nice in my hands. CCM's grip was ok for me when it came to shooting, but did not feel anywhere as nice when it came to stickhandling.

I used to hate grip as well. I used it because a stick I wanted only had grip once I got used to grip I can't use non grip sticks now my hand slides slightly when taking big shots with non grip. I think it takes a couple weeks or months of playing depending on how often u play to get used to it but once you do you'll see there's more benefits in a grip stick than non grip.

I loathe grip. I really like my bottom hand to be able to slide without any resistance. The True sticks only come in grip, but I wouldn't say it's all that grippy, more toward the satin end of grip than rubber. I get all my Bauer sticks without grip.

Can't use non-grip sticks, especially those really slippery matte ones. I like to have maximum grip on my stick when shooting, and I just loosen my bottom hand while stickhandling.

I agree with all of that. I have never been a fan of grip but those two sticks really do seem to strike a nice compromise and with the palms that manufacturers are using, most people do find that they need some amount of grip.

I'm scared of the new stick I have coming, CCM Tacks. It's only done in grip. I assume like anything else, I just need to go to some pickup and get practice on it.

Exactly. I get almost no grip from Nash palms. Grip is a necessity for me now.

I prefer the grippiest finish I can get. While puck handling, my bottom hand is so loose, that it slides up and down the stick with no issues... but once I close my hand to rip a shot, I love that lock.

i've only ever used 2 grip sticks, an old Synergy ST (bright green, remember those?) and a 7K Sickick III. The thing I hated most about them was they rubbed against my pants. Apparently I rub the stick against my pants as I skate quite often, never noticed it with non-grip, but the first time I used grip I was like WTF is this?

One of my first sticks when I started playing a few years ago was the Warrior DT4 with the green on it. I had also bought Easton eq50's and later realized the leather on the palms made the most annoying squeaking noise with the grip on the stick. I used clear coat spray but it would come off eventually. For a while I stopped using grip then I went back to it last year when I got an NXG..Now I'm stuck on grip sticks (pun intended)

Just played my first game with a grip stick - can't say I hated it. New stick is a CCM Tacks. I think my biggest struggle was trying to leave it an inch longer than my other sticks, not the fact that there was grip. If anything, feels like it might be beneficial once I get used to it.
