Make them yourself. Some leather, some grommets, flat head bolt and nut. I picked up a cheap belt from a discount store, real leather for like $10. Cut it up into sections. Popped in the grommets, mounted to the boot and done.

Today’s 3-piece elbow archetype is also Jofa. Alpha DX looks closer to a Jofa copy to me than a return to the Projekt pattern.

I hear what you're saying. If I had the money and knew that I was ok with a certain skate from using either a previous gen custom or a retail version, I still think I would go custom if it afforded me either more comfort or more options for details, like CCM and Graf seem to still offer. I agree though, there would have to be done reason to go custom, whether for fit or for additional options (like increased our reduced stiffness, etc).

The Alpha DX pads are three piece like the old Projekts, but yes Warrior did have several Jofa style pads between the Projekt and the DX pads. https://images.app.goo.gl/bLmFW6j5rfovQ7t28 I do see the resemblance of the Projekts in the Sherwood Code V pads, but unfortunately they don't seem to have the same performance. Search for Hockey Reviews Sherwood Code V elbows on YouTube.

STX is only direct To consumer anyways so you will not find in store. They are happy to accommodate returns and on elite line products you even get 14 days to demo and wear. To be honest I haven’t much been a fan of their shoulders or shins, but love the elbows (rx3 surgeon). I returned both the shoulders and shins after purchasing but have since tried a few sticks and own 2 pairs of the elbows. Their original surgeon stick remains my favorite inline hockey stick of all time

If you dont need a custom skate you are better off saving that money. Not to mention you have the TRUE 30-day satisfaction guarantee so if you do buy them and dislike the skate for any reason you can return it. Thats not possible with customs. The build of most brands custom skates is basically the same as the retail model too. So it's not like they are getting anything significantly better. I would say CCM is the only company that has some significant available options for their customs as compared to retail models. I prefer to not put anyone in a custom skate unless they need to be in one. Thats for all brands, not just TRUE. I like customers having peace of mind if they buy a skate and its the wrong fit for them or too soft/stiff, they can return.

Graf is doing custom again. Not sure how far away from retail they'll go, but might be worth investigating. They still offer "leather" (I think synthetic) in their Classic line, so you should be able to get a softer boot.

These were like 4 years in the making, from finding appropriate donor gloves to getting the embroidery files digitized and then stitched out, then sent off to CPR. Didn't get around to sharing on this forum. Here's a teardown photo CPR sent me:
