2023 Bauer will be introducing a new titanium cage with the Profile shape.

Thanks for the responses guys, I might take my helmet to the store and check out some of the cages mentioned and see how they fit. I’ve made the mistake of buying some equipment online without seeing it in person and was disappointed. I might actually be due for a new helmet soon too, I have an old CCM, not even sure what model it is anymore 🙂

I've used flat and round and honestly once you're on the ice you don't notice any difference. The biggest factor I've found is where the horizontal bars lineup with your eyes... I've had some cages I couldn't use because the bar ended up right in front of my eyes, and others that are perfect. I'm currently using a couple old Jofa bubble cages but I also love the Bauer Profile II cages, they have a nice shape that's not too close to the face and fit my face well (the Profile III fits way different and sits much closer to your face, I hated it). I prefer a white or grey cage since I find I tend to notice black more when I'm not trying to (the oreo style ones are great, white inside and black outside). Also remember that cage size and helmet size isn't the same, some people have longer faces and some shorter so if you can go to a store and sort of try them on that would be a good idea. I wear a large Bauer Profile II cage (which fits smaller than a CCM large but bigger than a CCM medium), and have worn them on small CCM V08's, small CCM 910's, and a medium Bauer IMS9.

Tension is tension, if you pull outward, you aren't putting force on that eyelet, but you are pulling on the one below it. Maybe easier to moderate the force, but that would be it.

So the biggest thing I like about my Quad 0 is the asymmetrical profile, the flatter rear and smaller radius front. So wouldn't a key decider between these be symmetrical vs. asymmetrical? I don't really care about the argument of continuous blending, the quads have easements, you don't pop from one section to the other.

For the shrink wrap it depends, if the fit isn't great across the forefoot / arch then it should be wrapped also. A 1/2 size too big is a 1/2 size too big, it doesn't go away. Yes, you can remold the boot and squeeze / wrap / clamp the sides in but then they only stay there if your mechanics are good. If your mechanics aren't good then the boot is going to expand out again quickly. Don't be fobbed off with a rebake, if you believe they are made a 1/2 size too big (this happens all the time) you should be asking for a remake. These are customs skates built to fit your foot and you are paying for this.

👍 I had Quad XS, Quad Zero, Ellipse XS, Ellipse Zero and Zuperior XS on my 254mm TF7. I´m happy with Quad XS, but I went the wrong way and testet the Quad XS at last. I burnt two sets of runners testing the profiles vice versa. Agility of Ellipse XS is more like Zuperior XS or Quad Zero. Try the Quad XS and then think about the rest if you want to have less agility and acceleration.

I hope the nhl moves to a model where at the first game, there’s a giant pile of XL practice jerseys in the middle of the floor. You get whatever number you get. Johnny Gaudreau ends up wearing a goalie cut because he came late and there was nothing left. Eventually the navy team plays the black team and one team has to wear yellow pinnies. If a players gets called up mid season, they just wear whatever random jersey they have in their bag.

P90TM is similar to P30 in that it was subtle but had some performance features. I'd say P30 was a P88 with a little more rocker and a kink on the bottom of the toe. P90TM is a combination of the three main retail curves. It's a flatter rocker and wider blade like the P88, with the heel twist of the P29, and the toe beak of the P28. And the same Lie5 as the P30. As someone who used both, I'd say that if you liked the P30, you'll probably be happy with the P90TM. I personally love the P90TM, much more than the P30 (but that may be the stick itself too). The Bauer P14 (and I guess Sherwood PP14) had a similar shape but it was shorter and not as much kink on the bottom of the toe. I wouldn't call it the same.

I'd say they're close enough to call them the "same". My P90TM and P88 are cut the exact same length and I don't notice any differences in the way the blade is touching the ice. The tape on the bottom is still wearing evenly on both. Both are much lower than a P29/92, even the lie 5 variant. Just get it. If you're a P88 user but want better puck control and elevation on shots and passes, that's what this curve is. I can't tell you that you'll be able to hit the exact same spot as with your P92. I can tell you that you will shoot better and higher than the P88, but still get all the puck certainty benefits of the P88. And you won't shoot as high as a P28. If you really don't like it, and use a RH 70 flex FT3 Pro, I'll buy it from you.

I think the P90TM retail curve might work for you. I'm also a P88 using defenseman because I need the flatter rocker and taller blade, plus the wide rounded toe and lower lie. P29/92 has way too much rocker for me. P28 has too much of a narrow arrowhead shaped toe. The retail P90TM is very similar to the flat rocker and wider blade as the P88 from the heel to the middle. Then it opens up like a P29/92 until the very end of the toe where it has a slight beak like the P28 but still the wider toe of the P29/92/88. It's not quite as open as the P29 at the end of the toe because of the beak. But it's definitely more open than a P88. Honestly, this is probably my favorite curve because it gives me the best of everything while eliminating most of the drawbacks. You get the flat, wide blade of the P88, but with more openness and rocker in the toe. Plus the openness of the P29/92 without the rocker and thinness of the heel. With P29/92, I would often get the puck rolling off the toe, likely because the amount of rocker from heel to toe. That doesn't happen on P90TM because the hooked toe keeps the puck in place. So I get nice flat saucer passes, and quick puck elevation without the rocker. And the toe curve of the P29 to keep the puck on the stick and for shooting, without the extreme rocker and arrowhead shape on the toe.

@Hills did a very good comparison of CCM's P90T vs a P28 and P29 on his instagram page. I'd like to see how it compares to a P88 also, as I'm exactly what Colins describes above, a P88 user that wants to keep the passing and consistency of the flat rocker, but would like a little more curve in the toe to help get toe shots off.

Anyone comfortable with a P28 probably won't see a lot of value in the P90T/P90TM. I think it's more for the player who tends to play low without going to a really short stick and struggles with the amount of heel-only contact the P28 provides. These are the guys who would normally prefer stick handling/passing with a P88 due to the low lie and flat rocker but they want a better pattern for shooting off the toe and for toe drags than the P88 provides. Even someone who uses a P92 and is happy with that doesn't have much of a case to gravitate towards it. To me, the P90T/P90TM is a migration path for P88 folks who want some of the benefits of the P28 or P92 but don't want to give up the puck handling comfort & lie they enjoy with the P88. P92 lie 5 is another option for these kind of players - but it's a rare beast, never seen it at retail and rarely on prostocks. colins
