  1. What was the embroidery upgrade?
  2. Not surprisingly, no suspension and no fine - but there was a warning issued. https://www.tsn.ca/bettman-marchand-warned-by-player-safety-1.1299589 It seems a bit weird to be warning a repeat offender but at the very least it's good that he has the league watching him again. The Overdrive guys were discussing the idea of some sort of weasel rule, where enough warnings and/or fines eventually results in an automatic 1 suspension. I think that actually makes a lot of sense for guys who continue to have unacceptable behavior but nothing that warrants a fine or suspension. Kind of like in USA hockey where five minors in a game is an automatic ejection.
  3. No idea how many. They don't make it anymore anyway so it doesn't matter. I was usually doing whatever the maximum was on the machine, which I think is 8?
  4. Marchand doing Marchand things again. I can’t imagine this to be suspension worthy but should at least earn him a fine just as a repeat repeat repeat repeat offender. Regardless, man that’s embarrassing to watch.
  5. I didn't notice any difference in that regard 🙂
  6. Well thats too, though cages are designed to bend. And hopefully immediately replaced.
  7. Also even in a no-slap shot league, wrist shots still suck when they hit you in the head...
  8. And now the Sharks are whining that the NHL should apologize for an icing that was waved off. It's a bit silly. There is a massive difference between calling a 5 min major on a play that barely deserved a minor, and a linesman making a judgement call on an icing play that happens hundreds of times a season.
  9. ^ It appears nothing has changed in the years this thread has been active.
  10. A weird two day break in the schedule. Carolina has taken a strangle-hold on this series winning two on the road. Hopefully they can finish it off at home this week! 🙂 I have a feeling the Islanders are going to seriously regret not playing the second round in their old building.
  11. I had a re-akt helmet for years and switched last fall to a CCM 710. I didn't think anyone could top the re-akt for comfort but I was wrong. The re-akt cage was great, but when I switched to CCM I got the fitlite cage for that. For me personally I actually found the sightlines even better so that worked out great for me.
  12. Don't go anywhere near the old style of mask. Some guys wear them because they're into vintage gear but some guys also don't wear throat protection of any sort. Just because some people do it doesn't mean it's smart. As for your mask - the NME4 is not sufficient for anything beyond ball hockey. MAYBE roller hockey. Definitely not ice hockey. The NME3, NME4 (new version of NME3), and NME5 are all made of plastic. That's just not sufficient for ice hockey. In the Bauer world, the MINIMUM you should be looking at is the NME8 ($399 MSRP) as far as current retail models (the previous fiberglass mask was the NME7 and you may find those on SidelineSwap or something sometimes - they're fine too). With the NME series, at least NME8 and up, you have three fits - Fit 1, Fit 2 and Fit 3. I'm a Fit 1, which is the smallest. Make sure you try on all three in the store, even if they only have the higher end NME available you'll at least know what size you are and be able to order online. The Profile line is the more traditional mask with the traditional style foams, outside of the top end model. I personally don't like the foam in them so I don't use them. The 940 is also plastic. You'd need to go to at least the 950 ($599 MSRP) to get a safe mask. The Profile series is one size fits most IIRC. In the CCM world... sorry, can't help you. I didn't like the feel of them so I have no experience there. But same problem - the lower end CCM masks are polycarbonate aka plastic. Stay away. Now of course there are lots of options from the smaller brands. I like the look of the Coveted masks personally, though I've never worn one. You can also get something like Protechsport (http://www.protechsport.com/en/masks) where they have you do a head mould and send it in and they build you something custom. At the low end they're actually surprisingly inexpensive ($335 CAD for the low end fiberglass) but they can have long wait times. It seems most people are going to suggest you go to a company like that instead of a mid-range Bauer or CCM. I have a hard time disagreeing with that, I just happen to really like the fit (and the padding!) of the NME series so I've stuck with that. Right now it seems the NME8 is on clearance a lot of places for $319 USD, so I picked another one up. I also bought a couple from places like eBay or SidelineSwap. Oh, and one other thing to consider... if wherever you're playing requires HECC/CSA certification for goalie masks (most adult leagues don't) then you're pretty much stuck with a retail mask regardless. So probably irrelevant to you, but figured I'd mention it.
  13. NHL officials are human and miss quite a few calls. I'm not sure the NHL typically apologizes for most of them.
  14. No question its tough, but they need to be accountable for their mistakes like anyone else. I'm just happy to see they actually are.
  15. The following referees have moved on to the second round: Pochmara/McCauley O'Rourke/Peel Dwyer/Charron Pollock/St. Laurent The NHL is doing the right thing and cutting the following pairings: O'Halloran/Furlatt (officials from Vegas/San Jose game 7) Meier/Hanson (officials from Toronto/Boston game 2) This is the first time in over a decade that O'Halloran has not been at least to the conference finals, and he is the current leader among active referees with 212 playoff games.
  16. I hate to say it but I think the Islanders are going to win this one. I'd definitely prefer it was Carolina though.
