Another season over. Lost 4-0 in the semi-finals to the first place team that has lost about 3 games over the last four seasons total. Normally that wouldnt be sweet spot worthy but we’ve been informed that they aren’t allowing that team to continue as-is. So this is the last season that will be a complete waste of time.

Blade Barber Handheld Skate Sharpener

For sure. I want to just be like... "You know what that thing is actually doing, right?" but decided to just mind my own business. -

I think a product that sits in between something like a Sweet Stick (which I see guys at pickup use every single skate - one guy said he hasn’t had his skates sharpened in two years) and a full sharpening definitely has some value. -
Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener

Basically where I was at too. 40 mins each way to get a 50/50 chance at decent edges. Showed up during hours posted. “It was slow so he went home.” -

What I personally wouldn’t do is try to do the math to figure out the break-even. Maybe if money was the #1 reason why I wanted a Sparx, but honestly that was so far down the list of reasons that it was kind of irrelevant. I also feel like my time is worth something, not to mention the time wasted skating on a bad sharpening. The convenience is worth far more than any kind of perceived or real monetary savings, to me at least. -

You sound like a good candidate for one. If you can afford the expense, then do it 🙂 -

And in many places even if you ask for something different you’re likely just going to get 1/2” anyway. -

Yeah 1/2 is definitely the most common. -

Hollow is a preference thing. -
Our league is actually doing something about the lack of parity. Shocking.

They are really hard to put on. I spot heated the top of mine to open it up, but still use a long shoe horn to slide my feet in. I get some weird looks still when I do it but whatever. -

Keep in mind I’m in goalie skates. My player skates are 5/8. -

It was noticeable but in a good way so it wasn't a big deal. If it was a problem I could have just got a 7/16 ring and tried that instead. -

I don’t think it has anything to do with the Sparx but I did change from a 1/2 to a 3/8 ring a few months ago. -

Huh I’m surprised I never replied in that thread. Basically, the massive step up in comfort from normal skates to Mako was about equally matched by going from Mako to VH. That said if the Mako still existed I’d gladly go that route to save $500. -

I personally just don't care as long as it's comfortable. But I understand those who do. -

Completely agree with everything you said. Unlike off the shelf skates where you're pulling hard to try to wrap the facing around your foot, with VH it just wasn't necessary. Just enough to be snug. And I dumped waxed laces almost immediately. -

Any pain I had when I got my VH was alleviated by not tying the skate so tight. There's no reason to tie tightly with that kind of foot wrap. -

Indeed. I'd much rather have complete consistency.
