  1. Dammit... in neither the M7 nor M8. Oh well.
  2. I sure wish they'd had lower models when I got my original makos. Oh well. I'm going to pick up a pair of M7s
  3. It's okay. Nice because its easy to use (I dont even take the ice packs out, just toss the whole thing in the freezer) and because it stays on well. I'd prefer to see more ice in the heel area but I guess they want you to be able to walk in it. I'd prefer more ice without being able to walk in it, personally). It also seems to leave the gap between the side pack and the front pack right where I actually need the ice, as my pain is mostly on the outside of the foot, just below the ankle bone. I want whatever ice pack my PT used a couple weeks ago, it was huge but it formed to my foot really well, and they just wrapped some medical elastic wrap over it. You know, the tan colored velcro wrap. I haven't actually been back to PT. My wife had appendicitis on Friday and I took friday and monday off work so it was kind of hard to take wednesday off too. I'm not sure it was worth the time to go there anyway. Maybe for the doctor herself, but the strength exercises were a waste of time. Nothing I couldn't do at home, since I already have the bands they were using. I'm going back wednesday but just for another meeting with the doctor. That will probably be it for PT for me. IT's not especially beneficial at this point. I'm walking almost completely normally. It's just sore in the mornings and swollen before bed, but fine all day now.
  4. That sucks dude. Though not surprising with the plate and an incision I guess. Some people earlier in this thread took their plates out eventually to skate again. As for the ice pack, you mean this one? I've had it for a long time. My old Reactor skates made my inner ankle hurt because of how poor the fit was. I had this thing on the night before I went to urgent care when I still thought I was dealing with a sprain.
  5. Thanks! I just figured it may be useful to somebody someday, just like the first bunch of posts in this thread were useful to me. Especially since there is such a massive range of healing times as you can tell based on my minor break taking 3 months just to walk on my own, plus a blood clot, yet a major break with surgery for @A2rhinowas healed in very little time at all.
  6. Absolutely fantastic looking skates. So you supplied the teal to VH, then?
  7. Icing and elevating my foot for 30 mins before bed every night. I think my ankle is juuuuust a bit swollen (yes, that's a divot from my thumb). the walking is getting much better now. Stiff in the morning, though I'm walking with just a slight limp. Still can't stand on one foot though, and rolling out of my steps is still a bit painful. Also putting weight on either side of my foot instead of straight down is still really difficult and painful. Getting there, though. The ortho said 6 weeks to start sports again, which just happens to be the last day of blood thinners (sept 13). I'm aiming for an oct 2nd return to my team. That's my goal at least at this point.
  8. Much better angle!! 1:20 - you backed right into your net. You'd have been screwed on a short side shot.
  9. That reminds me... I should hopefully have videos up again soon. I'm aiming to play in our October 2nd game.
  10. I aim for basically blue line and in, and definitely want to see play at the net. It may take a couple tries for you to get the angle right. Once it is, use an actual screwdriver to make sure it's all super tight so it doesn't move. As for how high to put it, I basically put it as high as I can reach. The higher then better, really. Eventually you get to the point where you can just look at it and see if it's aimed too far up or down. Looking forward to seeing your new angle!!
  11. Okay 2016, can we please quit it with the potentially life threatening medical conditions? First me with a blood clot, now Jenn with appendicitis. I'm getting really tired of hospitals.
  12. Just got off the phone with my doctor with more info about getting me off the blood thinners. Apparently there's not a lot of studies on the particular type of DVT I had, which means we're basically basing recommendations on the evidence (caused by immobile leg after the ankle break). So, no genetic testing is necessary at this point, and that 3 months of medication is acceptable. She mentioned that 6 months is "safer" but that's counteracted by the risks involved with taking the blood thinners themselves. Also mentioned that while traveling via car or plane to wear compression socks and do seated calf raises every 30 minutes. In addition my risk to get another one is significantly higher and that, oddly enough, my risk of testicular cancer is higher now. So, despite all that I have the news I was hoping for: I'll be off Warfarin in about 3 weeks. Yay!!!
  13. For sure. I'm sure this will happen a lot. A good day followed by a bad one. But, it's just like the pain after working out... if there was no pain then it would just mean I haven't been pushing myself. Gradually the bad days will start to go away.
  14. I don't understand. Why would the inside of your knee be hitting the landing stack at all? Should be the front of your knee.
  15. Congrats on the win! The Bauer sleeves are for comfort, not protection. You definitely don't want to wear just those. I'd personally recommend the Passau knee pads. They're huge, but they don't feel like it once you're playing. I've had other knee pads that were huge and FELT huge and it was awful (the older Bauer Supreme model, specifically).
  16. Hah, and today I'm back to a significant limp using a cane for support. I suppose that's not surprising after the PT yesterday, and a couple hours of walking around the house cleaning and such like nothing happened. It's quite the rollercoaster with this crap!
  17. Okay I got in today for an assessment. It was actually a pretty reasonable price ($110 for 1.5 hour assessment). Mixed feelings. The therapist was great. Did some manipulation of the joints in the foot, used a metal thing to break up some scar tissue etc. On the other hand, the kid doing my exercises with me seemed to not really care a whole lot and seemed like he'd rather be elsewhere. Im thinking I'll go back to her next week, but likely a lot less after that. Especially since my personal trainer is in his final semester to become a physical therapist himself so while he can't (yet) do any of the adjustment of my joints he can definitely do the exercises with me. Walked without pain again today (before the PT at least). So apparently I failed to correlate the ibuprofen I took on Saturday for a headache with my sudden painless walking. Easy for me to do since I literally never take any kind of painkiller unless I have a headache that doesn't go away on its own after a few hours. So I took more ibuprofen this morning, and by 11am I was walking around the house almost like it was nothing. Cleaning, organising my hockey gear, etc. Then after PT today I got some REALLY good news. Apparently the hematologist told my doctor that I'm okay to get off the blood thinners after 3 months (which means I only have a month left). That's AWESOME!!!!! I'm so pumped right now.
  18. I thought the whole concept was that with standard radius you: - sacrifice glide if you go to a deeper cut, or; - sacrifice bite if you go to a shallower cut But, with FBV you can get as much or as little bite as you want without changing how much glide you get because of the flat bottom. At least that's the idea if I understood correctly from the massive FBV thread on here. Even as a poor skater I felt like it made a significant enough difference to keep doing it. Though that could very well be all in the head. Either way, while it wouldn't have kept me from buying Sparx, I'm sure it's very true that without it there may have been some customers who would have passed. Im just dying to get back on skates after this damn broken ankle so I can use my Sparx again!
