  1. Aside from the possible penalty, it's interesting that no one on the white team is hustling to be a part of the breakaway. There's always an opportunity to get open for a pass, put more pressure on the goalie/defense, pick up a rebound, pick up the puck if the puck carrier loses control, etc.
  2. Maybe, just so that side would be symmetrical with the other non-damaged side. I don't know what it does, protection-wise, since it's really light-weight foam.
  3. I would get black nylon fabric that would cover the area that contains the hip pad plus the foam around it plus an inch all around. It would be two trapezoid (or parallelogram) nylon pieces, inner and outer parts, that you would sew together on the left, right and bottom side. The top would be left open. Now, you have what looks like a flat, polygonal tote bag. Put the tote bag thing over the damaged hip pad area. Sew the top closed so it closes up the opening of the tote bag patch, and it connect to the pant. So you want to make the length and width larger than the 2-dimensional size of the hip pad area, to allow for the depth of the hip pad to fit inside. Does that make sense?
  4. There's an ice skating thing called "edge work", figure skaters and hockey players do them. You can look it up on youtube or google it. Basically, you carve deep turns on one foot and try to hold yourself steady through the turn. It works on the variety of muscles used to hold yourself up through the turn or arc. The weaker you are, the less deep you can go. There's also edge work to help you work on your strength, balance and skating skill, you don't go as deep but hold yourself up on one foot but carving on the inside edge of one blade and then when you are done with the arc, you stay on the same blade and turn in the other direction on the outside edge of the blade. After doing a bunch of arcs, switch feet and do the same thing on the other foot.
  5. Depends on the level of risk you are willing to take. As for the shoulder pad area, I've been hit by the puck, a stick, another player, the ice and the boards. Sometimes, the goalie will punch me in the back with his blocker if I'm screening... it's a thing 😁. I prefer to wear the full-coverage kind of shoulder pads where there is a lot of padding on the front and back. Basically, I'm less willing to take on risk because I have a day job that pays, so I am not willing to wear the 1970's kind of shoulder pads, or no shoulder pads as some guys do. Low-level hockey doesn't always mean low speed or low power shots or hits.

  7. I know the Vaughn 2020 catalog thread blew up like crazy!!! Well now, we can discuss the 2021 product line. https://vaughnhockey.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/vaughn.cat_.2021.pdf Just kidding. It looks the same as 2020. I don't think they sold as much due to COVID-19 and people not being to play.

  9. Not sure what you mean by all curves going out of retail manufacturing. All the major brands, Bauer, CCM, Warrior, True, and Sherwood have a variety of non-custom curves for retail sale. Check out prostockhockey.com for an interesting variety of custom one-off sticks made for pros and semi-pros. Custom may be just the last name is on the stick, but can also be a modified version of an existing curve.
  10. You're doing the right thing. Keeping a player in one position through the game is good. Changing zone and position responsibility is too much to handle for young players. You get lost players or two guys mentally playing the same position on the same shift and the other team can take advantage of openings.
  11. Weird number roster happens often in beer league games. Not sure how it would work with kids hockey and your horn system. But like with 11 players, we would put 3 guys on a position that would rotate faster, and not necessarily with their line, like center or one of the wingers. If everyone is hustling, we usually get exhausted enough to where we want to get off sooner than later. I know with kids, if you didn't have your horn, they would play the whole game.
  12. Your blade profile affects the feel of falling backwards. Sounds like negative pitch. You could send the blades to a place that reprofiles blades. You could ask for the same radius but with neutral pitch or aggressive pitch.
  13. Helmet stickers aren't crazy so far. I would be bothered with a forehead sticker like they do in Europe.
  14. Fourteen years, 13,970 saves, 543 games, 246 wins, 48 playoff games, seven straight playoff appearances, three All-Star selections. Those are the accolades that Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard boasts as he waves goodbye to Hockeytown and the NHL. Howard announced his retirement Thursday after 14 NHL seasons, which were all spent in Detroit, and he skates away as the franchise's all-time leader in saves, No. 3 in games played, No. 3 in wins and was the first goalie in franchise history to win at least 35 games in each of his first three full seasons. The 36-year-old Syracuse, New York native made his retirement official Thursday morning with an Instagram post thanking the Red Wings organization, the fans, his teammates and family. https://www.nhl.com/redwings/news/lgrw-daily-red-wings-goalie-jimmy-howard-announces-retirement/c-320850008 Being a back up goalie behind Bernier and Greiss, he could have stayed on the team for the rest of this season. One of a few NHL goalies who still use leather straps all up the leg pad.
  15. Just curious. What is the width of your current S180 skates? What model CCMs did you have, what was the size and width? What is your street shoe size, do you wear D, E, or EEE width shoes?
  16. Have you tried www.sidelineswap.com
  17. Interesting. The only issue I see is honing the sides after a sharpening. I guess you could rub a honing stone on the side in the parallel areas, but you might ruin the sharpening on the flared edges.
  18. He's been using Reebok/CCM forever. But, CCM is allowed to show their brand on sticks. Ilya Samsonov with the Caps was using a CCM stick today.
  19. I wonder what stick he's using. Obviously, a brand that didn't pay the licensing fee.
  20. Price in his other set. Jake Allen is in a pair of TRUE Sports leg pads. Not sure if you can view a facebook video or not. https://fb.watch/34p-1p_Rr2/
  21. Connor Hellebuyck in TRUE L4.1 pads, and gloves.
