  1. If the insoles and steel are the only differences between the 7 and 9, I'd agree. The Genetix insoles are terrible IMO and I'd swap holders regardless so the steel doesn't matter to me. Like you, not a fan of the blue either, but at least it's not as garish as the Cat9 yellow.
  2. Agreed. That would be great. I understand why they don’t from an inventory perspective, and that’s what they offer at the custom level, but still it would be nice. While I’ve been skating on FT6 Pros exclusively for the last few months, I plan on going back to my Trues. If I can get ahold of a pair of FT6 tongues I’d like to sew on Velcro so I can use them on the Trues
  3. Honestly, I didn't even look at the 7. In the past the 7 was a downgrade in terms of shell, liner, and tongue. So all three of those items are now the same between the 9 and 7? Only differences are steel, insole, and coloring? If steel and insoles are the only differences, True sells both items ala cart for $65 (insoles) and a $70 upcharge from standard to DLC steel. The price difference between the 7 and 9 is $280 so that still doesn't make sense to me.
  4. So True officially announced the Catalyst 9x4 skates a few days ago, but I’m left scratching my head. The previous Cats as well as the Hzrdus line cost $760 USD for the top of the line model. Pro customs for those models cost $1,050 while SVH customs cost $1,200. Are the 9x4 the off the shelf skate or a custom skate because True’s website is listing them at $1,080; a 40% increase over the outgoing model. That’s insane!! https://www.truetempersports.com/en-us/hockey/catalyst-9x4-senior-player-hockey-skates.html# I initially tried out the TF9s because of the low entry point. Same goes for the Cat9s which were plagued with durability issues. I haven’t heard much about the Hzrdus line in terms of durability, but also don’t know a single person with those skates compared to previous models. I get increasing prices from one generation to the next, but 40%?!? What am I missing?
  5. Appreciate it, thank you. With the XF Pro no longer having a replaceable tongue, I figured the writing was on the wall that they were doing away with them
  6. What I was afraid of. Are you aware of any other means of getting a pair? Short of buying skates
  7. Specifically referring to the FT6 Pro tongues. I, personally, have never seen them available online or in stores
  8. Bringing this back from the dead. Anyone know if the ability to buy tongues has changed? I’m going to guess no since they’re not listed anywhere, but I’m hoping someone *cough*vegashockey*cough* may have a connect
  9. I remember when I went down from 280 holders to 272. Felt wobbly and not as stable for a game or two with shorter steel. After that, no issues. Now I feel clunky with longer steel. As said above, there’s a lot you could do with profiles if you don’t simply adjust to smaller holders
  10. That's what I thought too. Seemed like the upside down U-shaped knee area stood out more on the initial photo and the mesh more pronounced. I didn't remember CCM/Reebok/Adidas socks looking like that when I wore them, but like you, I haven't worn them in a while
  11. Funny, I originally had a comment about the socks, but in another photo they looked like they were following the same template as Reebok/adidas so I removed it
  12. Figured this would be timely with prospect camps starting up. New Utah team wearing the new Fanatics style practice jerseys and new team colored Jetspeed gloves
  13. I use something similar to these as well. Throw a set in skates, gloves, and the bag https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08697Z9L3?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
  14. New pair of mediums were just listed, and quickly sold, earlier today
  15. I know plenty of guys like the DIY route, but I’ve been using Clear Gear for the better part of a decade and it’s been great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CT3YG79J?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&th=1 Recently tried Hex because I got a deal on it and it’s good too. I started using their laundry detergent on all my workout gear with positive results https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07ZHQ12ZV?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
  16. Google DIY anodizing. You’ll need a bit of equipment/chemicals to do it. Unless you plan on anodizing quite a bunch of stuff, in the end it’ll likely be less expensive to go with a shop and you’ll get better results
  17. Anodized, not powder coated. Powder coatings and paint would create too thick of a layer for the chassis to fit and perform as it should. Google anodizing around your area and have discussions with shops
  18. Depending on how narrow his legs are, check out the FTW line from CCM. They're mostly like FT6s, but have D3O in the kneecaps and are slimmer for women. I really liked the idea of these pads, but for an average sized male they don't even come close to fitting. Obviously they're not supposed to, but it would be nice to have shin pads (or elbow pads) that are streamlined like Jetspeeds with D30 like Tacks
  19. Removing it is easy. What you do to seal the aluminum is another story. I believe I was one of the first people to have this done by having them stripped and anodized black by a professional shop. This is what Coast to Coast and other people typically do. I then got a second set of lowers so it was faster to swap out wheels and DIY'd them at home. Not near as good of coverage as having it done professionally, but they're good for my use case. Went with brown/bronze for that set. This is from over 3 years ago:
  20. What photos are you looking at because I think you’re looking at the wrong skate. The tongue on the XF Pro isn’t removable like the FT6 Pro, but otherwise it looks the same. What do you think is different? https://us.ccmhockey.com/Skates/Shop-By-Age-Group/Senior-Skates/SKXFP-SR.html https://us.ccmhockey.com/Skates/Shop-All-Skates/JetSpeed-Skates/191520632380.html The accent color appears to be more of a warm titanium. I wouldn’t consider that bronze or gold (apart from the ‘X’ pattern on the inside of the tendon guard). It’s definitely more subtle than the Jetspeeds, including the accent colors on the tongue
  21. Crazy how many different versions of the XS holder CCM has made compared to Bauer. They’ve had 3 different versions of the dial and now this all new holder with different steel cutouts?! I don’t get it
  22. I’m trying to understand the reload design. Is it a pull ‘trigger’ for lack of a better word? Instead of screwing the dial you pull the dial back?
  23. It’s a shame the Kings went away from actual equipment sales. I feel the sales now are mostly crappy merch. A handful of game worn jerseys and sticks, but not a heck of a lot of actual gear. At least that’s how it felt when I went to the first two. Skipped last year
  24. I honestly don’t even remember where I bought them. Warranty isn’t the point. I have zero issue paying a measly $10 for replacements. Of course, if they continue to break that would be an issue as I was going into these skates because of durability issues with True
