STEP BLACKSTEEL for Bauer LS EDGE (where can I get it?)
stick9 replied to Jordan_Rex's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Or buy some LS5... 😉 -
I've been eyeing some HG41CLCH gloves. I haven't used a CCM mitt since before Nike owned Bauer so I'm hesitant on buying. Curious about the fit, protection and durability? How does this model compare to say a Vapor 1X Pro or Warrior Covert?

Yeah, I think the $699 price point will bring in a lot of people who were on the fence.

Looking for undershirt to help with moving elbows
stick9 replied to justinpryor's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I use the UA shirt with the grip on the arms. It works really well. The shirt itself is better than anything I have used. Wish I would have bought two. -
I do not believe it is a replacement. I think it's a stand-alone offering with increased portability. JMO

I wouldn't be so quick to assume it will be cheaper. Small and portable means it has to be rugged. That usually means added cost and less functionality.

You're right, you never mentioned the quarters. That's not really the point. The point here is, you said Trues are the only brand you can bake multiple times without issue. Which by your own admission is completely inaccurate.
-
Umm, that's not entirely accurate. I know bauers can be baked multiple times as I owned several pairs that have been baked more than once. My ribcors have been baked at least twice so I have to assume it's the same with CCM. The issue isn't so much the quarter materials as it is the adhesives used.

LS5 and Step are roughly the same price.

Have you guys experienced any premature breakdown of the parts in the rear towers from blade movement?
-
I know a guy who has one and really likes it. Same guy swears by ABHS (all black hockey sticks), so take it for it's worth.
-
If you're talking titans, I'd put warrior ahead of CCM. CCM sticks are kind of meh. I keep trying them wanting...hoping to like them. It just never works out that way. But everyone is different.

Bauer Supreme 3S fitted in store felt good - feel too big on ice
stick9 replied to Goro's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Because they don't know any better and neither do the people helping them, sometimes. -
Can we hit the undo on that? No need to confuse the conversation. Retail version should get it's own thread. JMO

Bauer Supreme 3S fitted in store felt good - feel too big on ice
stick9 replied to Goro's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Well, slim chance the skates get smaller with more use. Does the 3s have the 3 different fits? Any chance that 8 is a bigger fit than what was scanned? Maybe length is fine, just the wrong width and/or depth... -
Will the shells be 3D printed like in the promo shots....

Tydan Blades to cease wholesale sales
stick9 replied to JR Boucicaut's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Nope, no more STEP Edge in the NHL. -
Now throw a bunch of 35 to 55 year olds in questionable shape into the mix. The mask we are wearing were never intended to be used during high intensity activities. At this point, I'd be more concerned with a cardiac event than I would be of covid.

Tydan Blades to cease wholesale sales

Meh, I think they were already there. LS4, STEP ST and Tydan all played and sharpened about the same. LS5 is a marked improvement over the others. -

Not wanting to up the ante? They are the only skate manufacturer putting R&D dollars into their runners. That's pretty ballsy, especially given the runner in their system is easily replaced. Other companies are banking on players either not knowing/caring what they skate on or are smart enough to know what to replace them with. Look at it this way. When you buy a higher end Bauer skate you are getting runners that are equal to if not better than the aftermarket guys. With CCM (prior to the acquisition of STEP) you were getting the absolute worst steel on the market. CCM didn't purchase STEP to simply offer a better product. They did it so STEP would no longer be available to Bauer or True, IE crushing the competition. FWIW, Easton and Mission, were already pretty well ruined when Bauer purchased them. -
I thought the two were fairly similar. Both are a nice upgrade from the x900. The Pro version felt a little bulkier and had more of an old school fit. The QR Edge version were lighter a bit more mobile and had tapered fit. I went with the QR Edges over the pro. I'm very happy with them.
