  1. Best bet is try a higher end pant. They usually have more padding. You could also try padded shorts under the pants.
  2. Great game....what a series. Hats off to the Blue Jackets. They played a hell of a series. As for the McAvoy hit. I'm ok with the 2. Anderson wasn't hurt on the play and I don't think McAvoy was headhunting.
  3. I find it to be the opposite. The tighter the fit, the better control I had. Agility and first step was greatly improved.
  4. Easily is a bit of an exaggeration don't ya think? I'd argue the Fusion steel is better than the LS2 crap you get with the S29.
  5. Most likely your foot is swelling. I can't see a boot shrinking with temp. It anything the inside will expand slightly as the boot warms up from your foot. Sounds like your doc had some good advice. Skating can be hard on your feet. Give it time.
  6. FYI - There are no fines during the playoffs. I think it has something to do with the players not being paid.
  7. Not sure if you're trying to be a d**k or not, but that's twice now. Here's the thing. Do you data whores actually understand the cost and complexity involved in supporting an opinion counter to that of VT's? Seriously, you ask for data knowing the chances of someone here having the means to provide that data is slim. The data you are providing is not even your own. It's the easy side of the argument bucause you don't need to prove shit. You can point to someone's elses work and say "see they did it". Lazy ass engineering. Many professionals question VT's results yet you (and others) are arguing it like it's law. Which I find comical seeing how they can't actually say helmet X reduces concussions. In their words, not mine... "Helmets with more stars provide a reduction in concussion risk compared to helmets with less stars." So all this BS and all they are doing is reducing risk. They aren't preventing shit. FWIW, if someone questions the results of a test and the manner in which those results were achieved. You can't use said results to make your point. Those very results are what's in question.
  8. Plenty of that to go around. The great thing about the internet is there is never a shortage of people demanding you back your opinion with facts and data.
  9. In basic terms, here are my issues 1) I don't believe VT test conditions account for fit. Do they use multiple head dummies or one generic one? A less than optimal fit could lead to a lower score. 2) I don't get the sense their test conditions correlate well to actual game play. Results in a controlled lab are one thing, real on ice studies are another. 3) You don't need to hit your head to be concussed. So all this data is irrelevant at that point. 4) Safety ratings can give one a false sense of security. "I don't have to worry about head shots, I have a 5 star rated helmet". "How did Billy get a concussion, we bought him a 5 star rated helmet".
  10. It depends on how you use it. If you sharpen and use them until they are dull, the Step would likely require some extra passes. If your maintaining an edge, then no.
  11. @michael1zfan I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty. The NXG is a proven design with proven materials. If they fit I'd go for it. Your getting a much better skate for the money.
  12. I believe that chart is FBV to ROH not Fire. I normally skate on a 3/4 ROH. When I switched to the Fire ring I went 3/4. They did not feel the same or even close. I had to drop down to the 5/8 Fire to get the same grip I got with the 3/4 ROH. So rule of thumb when switching to a Fire ring, drop down (aka go sharper) to maintain comparable grip to your ROH. Probably been mentioned. The Sparx Fire is nothing like a Blackstone FBV. It's closer to Blademasters version of the Flat Bottom.
  13. I can gather a ton of data under the strictest of guidelines and present it manner that appears to be unquestionable. It doesn't mean the data is good or even valid. VT openly admits that their rating system will not prevent the likely hood of suffering a concussion. So why do people put so much faith in it...
  14. I think the tests are crap because it doesn't seem like the data or the ratings mean anything. You have old designs built with outdates materials outperforming new models. You can't tell me the old Bauer 4500 or a CCM V08 are better/safer helmet than my Tacks 710.
  15. That is unfortunate. It should be noted that simply standing in them is not a proper assessment of fit, nor is sitting. If you can't take them out on the ice I'd strongly suggest you spend as much time as possible walking in them. Walking is not skating but at least it gives you a rough idea of how well your heels are locked in. It should also give you some insight as to whether or not the boot is the proper depth for your foot. Generally I'll spend at least 15 minutes walking around the store before buying.
  16. Size 8.5/9 street shoe, size 5.5 skate. I was in a 6 which wasn't bad. Ideally I probably belong in a 5.75 but what's the point of being in a junior size when you have to pay senior prices for customs sizing. My fit is what I would consider a perfomance fit. There is almost zero negative space. I like the snug fit but it's not for everyone. For example, if I were coaching I'd probably go up in size to a 6.
  17. If you're in pain after baking, you're in the wrong skate. I'd go so far as argue that skates shouldn't hurt right out of the box. Uncomfortable...yes, painful...no.
  18. I knew the Leafs series was going to be trouble. I mean they took you to game 7 last year and added Tavaras. This one's a little different. This one will come down to depth and goaltending. Boston in 6. Just think they are better suited for a series like this and are more experienced.
  19. Don't confuse durability with normal game wear. It's not really something you can measure. One person may be fine, the next not so much.
  20. it's more like the toe of the blade chipping, still usable and no real signs that the stick is going to break. Once it breaks it's no longer a functional piece of equipment. I'm assuming your skates are still fully functional.
  21. Clearly the OP is not happy with his or her AS1's. At this point I believe he or she is just looking for an excuse to ditch them. Filing a warranty claim on an item that was damaged during play is screwing CCM for something they had noting to do with. This is not a manufacturing defect...hell its not even a durability issue. You want to know why sticks and skates are so expensive and why smaller companies don't last, here you go. Encouraging that without even seeing a pic let alone the actual skate itself....wow.
  22. Curious to hear what CCM says about a warranty claim on a hockey skate that was damaged during a hockey game.
  23. They're fine. I wouldn't even worry about it. As for the softening, that's what skates are supposed to do as they break in.
  24. That's not being an a-hole... This is being an a-hole.... Never challenge a Bruins fan to an asshole contest, it's not a fair fight. 😋
  25. 34 will have plenty of time to weigh his options. 😁
