  1. I think you'd be surprised at how little "custom" there is in many pros custom skates.
  2. That is exactly what the second sentence you quoted recommends.
  3. From what I've read this whole cryptocurrency thing looks like nothing more than smoke and mirrors to me. The only reason it goes up is because people believe it will and not because it is backed by anything tangible. I think it is just a matter of time before the cryptocurrencies have their Black Tuesday.
  4. I think the answer is it is still individual, otherwise every NHLer except the "heel to toe" guys (who are very few and far between) would all be in the same skate.
  5. The Race to Outrage always has plenty of participants.
  6. And because shops have inventories of the other brands, they can potentially intercept a bad skate before a customer purchase. I'm sure there are those cases where an employee opens a box for someone to try on only to have that employee or the customer notice something off about the skate. The solution there can be to simply grab another pair of that skate out of the backroom. Obviously, that option isn't available with a custom skate. Early on I was a critic of the VH skate as there seemed to be a significant number of issues cropping up but as time has gone on there seem to be less and less issues. To the outside observer it would appear that they have listened and made great strides in initial quality.
  7. Considering how much time elapsed between the skates coming out of the oven and finally getting them on and tied, it is no wonder that the fit doesn't feel right yet.
  8. And there shouldn't be much of that happening with more of the holders having uniform hole patterns.
  9. While you may not want to settle, I would recommend that you take an "add some experience to your resume" position for a year or two. It is always easier to find a job when you have a job.
  10. I'm guessing he is referring the the standard white color accents on the side of the boot.
  11. Let's not bring race into this.
  12. If you can't rely on someone sharpening your skates at a consistently high level then it doesn't matter if the pitch is built into the boot or done with profiling/lifts. A butchered pitch of the blade by a sharpener will negate whatever original setup you had.
  13. I say make them hop in the DeLorean.
  14. This is definitely a fair point.
  15. If you wanted to spend more time in port then I'd recommend trying a NY to Bermuda itinerary. Those generally give you a day or two at sea each way and then 3 days/2 nights docked at Bermuda. If you're looking for less glitz then you'd need to step up a couple of rungs on the cruising ladder to Princess/Celebrity/Holland. Every step you go up in price you lose in riff raff on board.
  16. JR is dead on. Most of the time when people find out they hate cruising what it really means is they hate that particular cruise line. Different lines cater to different clienteles and the secret to enjoying one is to first know what you want/don't want in a cruise and select the line based on those likes/dislikes. Like any other vacation planning, a little research goes a long way and as much as online is killing the industry, working thru a travel agent can save some headaches in finding what fits your tastes.
  17. Ah, the joys of family. I got the pleasure of a last minute notice that my sister-in-law was bringing her 5 year old granddaughter for 4 days. Awesome.
  18. We've even gone 6 and 2 a few times when we've only had 8 show up. It actually works out better than going 5 and 3 because it keeps the forwards fresh and that can make up for the 2 D getting a little winded here and there.
  19. If you're running 3 D well then it should work out to about 3 minute shifts (stop time) with 1 1/2 minutes on the bench. The 2 ways you can run into problems is if 1 guy either takes really short shifts or really long shifts. I find I'm much more into the game when we play with 3 D as opposed to 4.
  20. 10 guys is the max I'll play with. The team I play forward on, 2 full lines works best. When I play defense I prefer to go with 3. Sometimes 4 D can be too many depending on the game.
  21. Sounds like a decent way to run it. My teams just run text chains.
  22. Wouldn't that be mathematically impossible?
  23. In short, it is ok to pirate if you personally feel the going rate is too high. Got it.
  24. There's a reason why in the beer league/pick up hockey circle that names like "Johnny Try Hard" and "Charlie Hustle" aren't compliments.
