  1. must've done a good job. she loves those skates dearly..... 🙂
  2. they got back to me this morning. it's funny, all these years and I've never heard of the Canadian holiday known as Family Day. 😆 and for the other poster kind enough to answer, we didn't really get her feet scanned at a shop. JR did measurements for us when we visited Detroit for USA Hockey Nationals a few years ago. it was right in the middle of the transition from VH to True.
  3. I used the search feature but couldn't easily find an answer to my question so...... how do we get new tendon guards when the originals break? the tendon guard on my gf's VH/True skates has cracked. a google search wasn't horribly helpful. I emailed True but haven't heard anything back as of yet. we don't have a local shop that sells True skates so that's not an option.
  4. this is true. I'm the head scorekeeper for my league and when I'm working a game I'll only correct the ref if I know for a fact that he got the wrong numbers and I NEVER give them a hard time about it. try watching a game of 2 teams that you don't know and see how often you get that second assist. oh, and be trying to skate and officiate a game at the same time 🙂
  5. so glad LA is going to grey cuffs! I'm so tired of teams having boring black and white gloves. I treasure my yellow outline Bruins gloves.
  6. UMD lowers converted to a shell: my latest addition to my Kovalchuk family: new family photo:
  7. as much of a fan of that Yotes jersey as I was I was an even bigger fan of this one: and I have no idea why! 😅
  8. appreciate the response. :) I was figuring that it was only counting calories while in the midst of a shift but wasn't sure. the only bad part about that is that even when you go back to the bench you're burning calories that you don't seem to get "credit" for. last night, for instance all rings closed except my Move ring. I was 30 calories short despite playing in a 90 minute hockey game. that doesn't seem right. I will say though, I love the re-design for version 2.0 my first game on 7/1 was using v1.0 which was ok but the new version has a much better design and is so much cleaner. thank you so much for bringing this to beer leaguers everywhere. :)
  9. bumping this topic to ask a few things. I recently switched from Fitbit to Apple Watch and am doing the Hockey Tracker app on a trial basis. for the most part it seems pretty cool but I'm mostly concerned with calorie burn. when tracking on my Fitbit, depending on the game I would average anywhere from 600-800 calories burned depending on how many lines we had. for the Apple Watch's native tracking I was averaging roughly the same amount of "active calories". last night we had 2 lines and as a center I skated a lot. by the end of the game (three 25:00 run-time periods) the Hockey Tracker had only counted 297 calories burned which seems a bit low. is it only counting calories burned while in the midst of a shift? I'm also curious how it detects a shift. I had some shifts that were way too short (25 sec) and others that were way too long (4:11. at 48 years old there's no way I stayed out that long)
  10. I wasn't aware that NYR were having attendance issues. don't they fill MSG pretty much all the time?
  11. I'm not normally into pink hockey equipment but that stick is epic!
  12. thanks! I can't wait to wear them when the Olympics start. :)
  13. spent Friday afternoon turning lowers and pants into shells: Ohio State Buckeyes: University of Michigan Wolverines Team USA 1998 Olympics (these were full pants that I made into a shell)
  14. that's how I've been doing it for over 10 years on both my Wissota and Sparx.
  15. never gonna happen but there are a pair or two on eBay right now for reasonable prices.....
  16. I get what you're saying about "feeling the blade/wheel" when using a manual machine but it doesn't mean that you can't tell these things when an automatic machine is sharpening the skates. I have both a Wissota and a Sparx. yes, when I sharpened on the Wissota I could feel when hitting a bad spot but with my Sparx I can hear the difference in the blade. I never simply set it and leave the room. I set the skate in and either pack my bag, tidy up the basement or sometimes just stand there and watch but I'm always listening to how the wheel is hitting the blade. in the year I've had my Sparx I have been VERY impressed with it's ease of use and consistency of quality even edges.
  17. happy early Xmas to me:
  18. I've been using this one for about a year. it does the job just fine and is much more affordable than most. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hockey-Skate-EDGE-CHECKER-FewOptions-/172349229987?hash=item2820d08ba3:g:I~YAAOSwJ4hY-tgE
  19. plenty and some good ones too. my favorite recent one was the guy who kicked an opposing player in the head, multiple times and then blamed the refs for it.
  20. we have over 1,000 players in our league. I've got a real job too (and clearly I need more time to surf the interwebs) so there's no way I'm taking stat updates from individual players.
  21. as the Head Scorekeeper for our league it actually entertains me when guys get obsessed with every little assist. I get that for some of these guys they haven't done a lot of athletic things in their life and it's a thrill to see on a (basically) public website that you're "lighting up the league". I allow captains, and captains ONLY to email me stat corrections. it's amazing how many send me goals and assists but how few send in the penalties. sadly there are a few captains who will drop you from their team if you're not putting up the points.
  22. found this stick at The Unclaimed Baggage Store in Scottsboro, Alabama. true story.
  23. overboard? no but your goal is off-center.....you must be a lefty
  24. no one can top that. close this thread now! ;)
  25. I hope you drove to New Hampshire and took him to Markey's Lobstah Pool in Seabrook: http://www.markeyslobsterpool.com/
