Something I've always wondered about those old-school skates, and even some of the semi-newish Grafs: why is there an eyelet at each side of the top of the tendon guard? Never made any sense to me, anybody have an idea?

Old School

My tacks still have those eyelets. Back in the days when myself and my lungs were young you used to be able to buy a pair of around 6-8" laces with a loop on one end of each lace. They were put in the eyelets looped onto themselves and did up in font of the bottom of the shin pad, helping hold them in place. Well in theory.

CCM used to make a pair of all leather "Roo Tacks" themselves.

The old-style tendon anti-slash guards were 2"-3" wide pads with cords on both sides. The cords were tied through the eyelets at each side of the top of the tendon guards, with the pads behind the tendon guards.

Great scan! Just think, in 20 years we will be looking back at the NBH 07 catalog thinking the same thing.

Makes me wonder though, what kind of advances will we see in the next 20 years?

How little the design of the Bauer 4 Roll has changed over the years. The back roll is very similar if not identical with the ones on the Cooper gloves, second pic.

That brings back some memories. I had a pair of those SBD shoulders in high school.

Still have a pair of the SBDIIs in excellent shape. Prefer my SB95s though ...

And here I am about to say that one of my teammates still rocks Coopers...and then you posted.

Peter - I would love to compile all of these, in full. In our downloads area we have a repository but it only goes back to 2002.

A couple guys I play with (in their late 40s/early 50s) are still in them. One said he might have to get some new ones next year or retire with the shoulder pads.

That said, I remember wearing the red, black and white cooper gloves from the catalogue.

JR, PM sent.

I would kill for a pair in whalers colors

I have a pair of those in original 4 roll short cuff(for the time) from mid 80s. They were not easy to get from Cooper at the time. I have repalmed them about 4, 5 times.

"It's unique rib design makes it amazingly light"...

Wonder what they would have said if they had a chance to pop in the DeLorean and see the S19 helmet...I bet it was 4x heavier

Is there a way for regular members to access the repository or is it for mods only? I would love to take a look at all the old school stuff.

I have a pair of those All Tuff Stuff gloves in black and gold. Also have a pair that have leather fingers and rolls with Tuff Stuff cuffs in Ohio State colors.... Also have a pair of those shiguards... Modified with extra padding - every time I would block a shot it hit one of those damn rivets!
