NHL 09

Overall still a solid game, but wow did BAP get boring real fast. Maybe a month straight of NBA Live will get me past the NHL wall I've hit.

I got tired of being "me." So I started a be a pro, pro mode. As a D-man. Just a different feel, got me back into it.

My friend was saying you can goto Be A Pro Settings and under the difficulty level there's a setting to switch from Lock Position or Authentic. Apparently Authentic means you play only as you but Lock Position means you can play as the wing you're playing so you don't just watch your team play when your on the bench

I call BS, never tried it but maybe one of you guys can check it out.

Does anybody need another player for an online team (PS3)? I'm willing to play any position and I'd say I'm a little above average as far as skills go.

Also, I noticed another odd thing about the game today. Every single person in the crowd is male...

They're also at full-capacity. EA obviously doesn't know the attendance situation at NHL games.

I remember crowd attendance being a feature on NHL 98 or 99 on PC. If your team was stinking out the joint attendance would suffer and you'd see empty seats. I wish EA would integrate a lot of the old features back into the game. I mean, if they did it once it shouldn't be too hard to do again.

yeah, its a setting. I can't stand how the camera angle changes though.

That makes two of us. The way the camera zooms-in and swings around is ridiculous. Can make it really difficult to read things properly - especially when I want to look for the man coming through late.

BAP is definitely a different way to play a video game, though (at least I think it is - I don't play many/any video games). Took me some getting used to and bouts with frustration...especially before I learned that I could "make" my teammates shoot when I set them up. I missed-out on a LOT of assists before I figured that one out.

I'm just wondering; what is this game retailing for in both Canada and the US? It's going for something like $109 here in Australia which is nuts! I'm headed back to Canada in a month and wouldn't mind buying the game on eBay and having it delivered home in time for my return. I guess I just want to gauge the price differences between eBay and retail.

Cheers for now!

It's $60 US for the PS3 and 360, don't know about Canada. Just go on a canadian website and look it up.

I just like playing the regular old online ranked play but I've got two questions:

1) If I go into settings and change so that I'm always shooting 'up', does that change it for the guy I'm playing too, or does it only affect me? I've started doing this and nobody has quit on me or changed it back or something, so I assume it only affects my perspective.

2) Does anybody else notice a CPU rubber band effect in online play? Seems if I'm up 2-0 or whatever, no matter what, the other team will just score on their first semi-decent chance. I find it impossible to blow somebody out, although I think I did win 4-0 the other night.

2) I have seen it happen, but I have also beaten people by 7-8 goals. Not really sure if it exists or not, although I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

when you change your camera angle in Online Ranked Play it doesn't change it for your opponent... both of you can select always up so you never have to play inverted...

CPU catch up AI in Online Play?? don't quite follow, if your playing online then how is their any CPU control, its the person your playing against... I did notice that in Online Ranked Play there are a lot of goals scored by the trailing team in the last minute of the game... I have tied up quite a few games late with shots that had been stopped all game...

oh I see, yeah I think you may be on to something... catch up AI in any game is stupid especially online...

Yeah, I mean you always seem to let in weak goals, get penalties, miss poke checks, and generally play worse when you are up a couple of goals. I'm about 95% certain there is some kind of 'catch up' AI involved, which is really dumb because that's supposed to be the whole point of ranked games, you only play people around your ranking.

Loaded my goalie BAP save for the first time in a few weeks, shut that off after two games. I know my recovery is low, but why does the poke only go straight forward and not at the puck, and why is the pro unable to do anything useful? Seems like positioning is the only thing you need to do. Too slow to get dumped pucks, too slow for one timers, too stupid to cover loose pucks, too stupid to use the post to push off when trying to cover a wrap around.

Any goalie BAP players have any insight or tips? Loaded my regualr guy up right after and lit shit up with 4 points and almost 30 hits. Even with penalties all the way up I can level a guy far away from the play all game and never go into the box.

There was really bad catch-up AI in NHL 08. You could be up by 4 goals, and almost guarantee that the AI would tie it up in the last minute or 30 seconds. I had SO many games where I would be ahead and absolutely dominating, and the AI would keep scoring cheese goals. I haven't noticed the catch-up AI much in NHL 09. It's toned down a lot, if it's still there. I think that was one thing EA wanted to change because lots of people were complaining about it.

Pantherfan, if you're doing a snap shot you can normally press down on the left stick right as you shoot and it won't make your guy stop. Either that or do a regular wrist shot, and aim while you're shooting that way.
