its really not that unusual, most young people from central and northern european countries will speak fluent english. the education systems place a great importance on speaking a 2nd langauge, typically english.

When I was visiting Ireland a few years ago I met a Swedish couple who spoke English very well, they attributed it to the high amount of American TV shows that get broadcast in Sweden. Apparently there are a fair amount of cognates between English and Swedish as well.

Back to gear... glad to see the 690 is alive in some fashion.
