HBO 24/7 Road to the NHL Winter Classic

Recommended Posts

i never bought into that until the locker room interview after he got hit by david steckel where he was almost crying

Not opinionating on it one way or the other but have you ever had a concussion? I've had several and although I don't recall being in tears but I also had no clue where I was haha.... My point is that when you get them you pretty much have a hard time controlling emotions. I watched one of the toughest kids I've ever met sob uncontrollably after getting a severe one

Random idea that I think we'd all like. Someone should do something similar to this show but for the duration of the playoffs. Sure, you wouldn't see anything that involved injuries but I think they could find a way to do a great show.

its all but confirmed that HBO will be doing it again for next winter classic. chances are it will be in philly and held on new years eve, as Jan 1 falls on a sunday and they dont want to go head to head with NFL.

as for the nhl playoffs, what do you guys think would be the best formula? they cant exactly have 16 crews running around following all 16 teams, then paring down as it goes on. or maybe they can?? if they dont, they miss out on a lot of story lines and footage...or do they just pick up the stanley cup final and make a series out of that? will be interesting to see how they approach that.

You wouldn't necessarily need 16 crews. Remember, at most there are 8 series going on at one time and both teams tend to be in the same city each day once the playoffs kick off. I think you need to run the length of the playoffs from the first game to the last.

I think we gota realize most hockey players are whiners. Almost everyone cry or bitch to the refs.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I got blindsided with a should to the head. It cut my nose bleeding on the spot. I wasn't so much emotional but couldn't stop the tears because of the twist and jerk on the nose when his should came through. After you regain some notion of what happened you get a bit aggravated.

It would be really hard to do with the stage being that big. I would love to see it, but can you imagine if they blame the media attention in the locker rooms for loosing.

It would be hard to blame the media when each team is under the same microscope.

"Sure, they had a crew on that side but our camera guy was worse than their camera guy."

Evidence? I know they've already ran a duplicate team with the Pens... but come on. Give some other teams a damn chance.

This series has pretty much proven that Crosby is most definitely a whiner.

If it were your guy you would be giving him props for having fire and being a competitor. AO bitched just as much. There was a lot of chatter on the ice, they only highlighted a few guys.

Well, after the first episode the Flyers are winning in the battle of philanthropy. While the Rangers took a group of under-privileged kids to Radio City Music Hall in limos to see the Christmas show and meet the Rockettes(bigger treat for players than kids), the Flyer built their under-privileged kids a hockey rink!!

And I'll bet more than a few of those guys end up dropping in pretty routinely to hang out and play a little shinny with the kids, cameras or no cameras.

I'm kind of ambivalent about the NHL using acts of charity to promote the game. NHL players handle it better than anybody I've ever see, short of Olympic rowers, and part of the miracle is how the manage to make it personal -- and I mean that both in the sense of handling it the right way, and in genuinely feeling the experience. In that sense, I think this could be maybe the best way to promote the game anyone has ever found. On the other hand, I think what could get lost is that remarkable personal touch, particularly if every act of compassion has to get scheduled with the league's PR arm.

That was pretty cool to see how proud Callahan's family were of him getting the captain's 'C'. Loved the scenes with his 90-some old grandmother at the Buffalo game, she was just beaming with pride.

The Flyers coach looks and acts more intense!

I think Tortorella is the most intense coach in the league(at least publicly), I thought he was going to rip Gaborik's head off on the bench in Buffalo. On Saturday I could see him flipping out on the bench and hoping they had him mic'd.

Bryz definitely stole the show. On the gear side of things, I was surprised at the amount of CCM shoulder pads.

Definitely looking forward to the next one.

I didn't see last years version, but looks like they're showing this series here in OZ. I really enjoyed it, though it was quite depressing realising just how cool it would be to be a pro... oh well, maybe in another life

I thought I saw Anisomov slip a bunga pad on his ankle when he was getting dressed. That surprised me on the gear side. Richards still had his old Jofa JDP shoulder pads.

This basically sums up what I was going to post.

Bryz is without a doubt, a very strange character.

Seemed like if it wasn't Jofa shoulders, it was CCM's

Just watched it again. Could Biron use more tape if he tried? I wonder how many rolls he goes through a season.
