Official Warrior Widow Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Couldn't find a conclusive answer on this so;

Currently have a 75 flex rbk 8k and i think it's a bit too soft but better than an 85 flex (i'm 6'1'' and a beastly 165 lbs) I cut about an inch and half off a traditional retail length stick.

Thinking about a Widow and i've read the flex feels different, so those who have the stick, should i get the 85 or the 75 flex?

Thx!

I'm fairly short and like a short stick, so I have to cut quite a bit on a senior stick.

Anyone know how much the flex changes per inch cut off on a senior widow?

I'm thinking of going to an intermediate stick. Anyone know the length of warrior widow intermediate sticks?

hey guys, i wanted to have some people opinion on the durability of the stick, i iv read some people breaking it early, but am wondering if those were just defected sticks, has anyone had a good experience with them? thanks

Broke my original just inside of a month, broke the replacement just outside of a month. Terrible durability, and I won't buy another one, even though it is a fantastic stick.

Switched back to a two piece as I was just spending too much on sticks. AK27 shaft and AK27 Gionta blade. Actually holding up better than I thought, but I do armor up Warrior blades quite a bit now. I wish some other brands offered the Gionta pattern. Love it.

I love the Gionta pattern too - I see the SE Widow now comes in the "Kremlin" - I haven't had a chance to see it in person, but it looks like it's quite a bit more open than the gionta.

Has anyone spent appreciable time with the gionta curve tried moving to the Kremlin? Any thoughts on how it effects your stickhandling or shooting?

I have the Gionta pattern and I usually switch between it and Sakic-style curves. I picked up a Kremlin/pro-Ovi clone pro stock stick and I couldn't get used to it. It's WAYYY more open than the Gionta or even my Sakic clones. I, personally, wasn't a fan of the Ovi-style curve but you never know, you might like it. Everyone is different.

Yeah, my backup is a Sakic curve...but I found a Ovi style Easton awhile back...an SL in a Sport Mart, of all places. It's not quite as extreme as the OVI curve, but it's close.

Don't like the stick itself that much, and my shots got up on me too quickly.

The Gionta seems to be the perfect curve for me. Able to raise it quick, but with my mechanics the puck doesn't go too high on a normal shot, and I like how the toe gives me more flat space on the blade for passes and backhands. Love it. Fantastic blade paired with the Widow.

I am interested in trying one of the curves I found on the Warrior customizer...less open and the curve starts more at the toe, but I can't remember the name.

For me the Gionta has been awesome. I've always wanted to try a toe curve, but there wasn't any options in a 5 lie. Coming from a PM9/Modano/Forsberg/Zetterberg, I found the adjustment relatively easy. I tried a friends Ovechkin pro and I didn't like it. It's just too big and open. The Gionta is still great for stickhandling and backhands. I wouldn't say the same for the Kremlin. Also, very impressed with the Widow stick. Best puck feel of any stick I've used. Good balance. Shots fly off the stick.

Feel is much better. Not aas ceramic like. Durability is qustionable. Mine broke in 6 days on the backhand by the heel, right on the warrior logo

i just picked up the dynasty two piece set up today. i gotta say, even though warrior's toned down their graphics, it still amazes me the level of detail they put into the decals. the word "dynasty" is all over the stick in size 8 font used as shading and lines, but you wouldn't notice it at all from afar.

I picked up a Dynasty OPS on Monday and am doing a blog style review over at HF Boards if you're interested. Don't really want to post all of my thoughts in two places. Mods, not sure if I can/should link or whatever, your call.

In summary so far it feels a bit whippier than rated, lighter and more balanced than the Dolomite due to the new fused construction, and overall seems very well built and designed. Haven't used it yet but have a game tomorrow.

+1 on the feel, I don't own the OPS but do own just the blade, and I'm loving the feel, very wood-like. Durability is fine for me so far, but its only been at most 5 games and 10 stick and pucks, plus I tend to be not that hard on my blades in general.

Is this the right place to post about the Dynasty though? Or should we have a separate Dynasty thread?

Was just in my lhs and the price on the Widow dropped $30 on the SE. I bought one just over a month ago. Just like the new Dynasty was cheaper then the out going Dolomite.

i thought my sister was seeing things when she told me the dynasty shaft was $10 cheaper than the dolomite shaft when it was released but it really was.

i did notice the dynasty shaft feels more squared than my old dolomite, but i think its because of the new grip finish pronounces the corners quite a bit more than the old daimond pattern.

i also think the dynasty deserves its own thread.

Hey fellas? Any Canadians seen the new Widow SE in the Kremlin curve in a 75 flex. I haven't even seen a regular Widow with a Gionta curve in Alberta. Pro Hockey Life, Hockey Experts, and Source For Sports just seem to want to liquidate their 4 year old Dolomites, it is quite depressing every time I walk into a hockey shop looking for these new sticks ans curves only to find maybe one a year later.

I am curious/anxious to see more info on the Dynasty. Just saw an in OMHA magazine. Very intriguing to say the least!!!!! Having never used a Warrior stick (other than a blade), it would be something I would love to get my hands on. Although I suppose the Inno MegaLyte I had at one time was Warrior related.

Probably not dude, any of those places could order one in for you if you asked, but most of those stores would only buy the most popular curves (Savard, Kopitar) and flexes (85, some 100s) at the initial launch. I've seen a few Widow SEs in 75 flexes however, but with only those 2 mentioned curves.

united cycle in edmonton has at least one 75 flex kremlin inthe widow se last time i was there a week ago.

i have the dynasty two piece as my main. the blade has good feel, miles better than the x60 blades i was using, but its a really stiff blade.

I remember my Kronik had a lot of nice little touches on it. There were ladies in the Warrior logos and going from handle to heel the paint would change from green, to an orange-red then black...

Does anyone know if you break a widow can you still fit a tapered blade in the shaft? I ask this because it's a true one piece with the dagger tech shaft

Since the Dagger taper is very aggressive, you'd have to cut the shaft so high the stick would probably would turn out too short.
