That’s not a fair statement. While all tendon guards “back in the day” became flexible over time (because they broke) the ONE90 was the first to be designed to actually flex and rebound. The premise behind that skate was dynamic range of motion.

Yea, I'm in the same boat. I mean I have student loans to pay off but I never lost my full-time job (been working from home since mid-March). Stinks being away from hockey but there are too many IFs for me to step out on the ice as a player or an official. Still on the fence about coaching.

Kids like flash. It’s definitely where it’s marketed. Ek15 performed great but looked definitely like a beer league stick

That's a good question. I feel for you parents and your kids when it comes to all of this. I have no skin in the game other than myself so it is easier for me to walk away with the hopes that the 2021-2022 season is "normal" (so weird thinking that far ahead). Traveling increases the likelihood of contraction and rinks don't want to be on the hook for the next outbreak. You're seeing what's happening with colleges that tried to reopen and cases are reported so they close doors again. There will always be somebody who wants to do what they want and "ruin it" for everybody else.

They were fairly advanced skates. I remember the advertising talking about how they weighed less than 800 grams and had the Lightspeed 2 Power holder which was supposed to be ultra-stiff. I skate with a lot of guys who still wear and love those skates. The players I know that did finally transition to modern skates almost always adopted the Ribcor 70k/80k but always lamented the One90.

I get the business end of this but at the same time screw Bauer. As someone who was a kid when Bilt-Rite/Mission started to seeing it evolve and eventually make its way into the NHL only to be bought up and basically shuttered by Bauer is just depressing. Mission was always a great brand pushing the evolution and functionality with their equipment and they always had an edgy marketing approach & a design aesthetic that defined inline/roller hockey.

The Mission guys who were out in CA are no longer with Bauer as of early this month.

I would be very surprised about this. I don't see the point in combining the two, as Bauer and mission basically completely dominate roller sales, especially in high end. From what I see they are very popular, so I don't see why they'd go anywhere. I would love to see mission put out some good roller pants and gloves one day.

Howdy, Yep, taking the year off from reffing here too. Luckily my family is in a position where that income was never the primary factor in reffing, so it just made sense for me to take a break during a pandemic. Mark

^ Good call, ref !! I reffed for 5 years. A break, especially now, is a good idea.

They do look fairly similar for sure, whether thats a coincidence or not.

No one would listen to us @DarkStar50 we know too much, have too much experience, and make too much sense!

Colins, I understand your marketing plan. It is the traditional path. There is nothing wrong with that. Just to play Devil's Advocate : what about Warrior ? I know they are 15 + years deep with NHL on ice product but how well has that exposure translated at retail? Just my experience in metro NYC market is that Warrior is still trying to make that NHL exposure work at retail but it just has never happened here. This is totally an observation in my market. How about other areas ? Has Warrior been a strong contender against Bauer/CCM in your market ? This is the road Sher-Wood is looking to get on. Dead End or Interstate highway to success ? Don't know, just want to hear other thoughts based on your market. Thanks. Seems like we are doing Sher-Wood's work for them !!

E700 Helmet, Tron gloves, Jamie Benn tape job, Rbk skates with the tongues swapped out? (looks like epro holders and lace locks.) Dope Gretzky silver stick with a blade with like a 3 lie. I’d hang out with this guy if he’d up his glove game and lose the tinted visor.

Part of the problem is the Mako came out when Easton was going through a pretty steep decline in popularity. If Bauer re-released the Mako II with an Edge holder, new graphics, and called it the UltraBoomADVSonicLite with a superdynaflex tendon guard it would probably fly off the shelves at levels the Mako never came close to.

Also morbid. My mind thinks mafia with a name like that.

The fit was good, boot had great thermoformability, one-piece, and its design allowed for a good range of motion.

I've been in the Pro Shop in a 4 rink building since 2001. Locally beer leaguers are tape, sharpening and a only if necessary new stick types. Not universal for all areas of course. I do agree BLers don't care about latest newest gear when it's time for the replacement purchase of totally dead gear.

Didn't realize they raised prices. It's also hideous. It's a shame because Sher-Wood is awesome. The m90 is a great stick and a great value. The BPM 120 glove was great all around. Sherwood could honestly do great business by just being good and a bit cheaper

Why would a "custom" skate have so much negative space to begin with that you would need seran wrap or tensor bands for the bake?
  22. 1 point
Responsibility? True is responsible for the performance and fit of the skate for the end user, that they are relying on supply chain to provide some of that value is fine but ultimately they need to ensure the QC no matter what the arrangement.

My first thought was Innovative (or was it "Inno" at first?). I remember in the mid 90's that was so far ahead of anything else out there, the rounded shaft was so comfortable and it looked awesome (I remember a black shaft with blue/white graphics and a light sandpaper texture). They were def smaller than most companies and you hardly saw them anywhere.
