Gotcha. Yea, its a pretty short-lived holder. And yes, lots of posts in this thread about people moving to bauer holders without issue. I considered swapping mine just to eliminate the pitch change.

You're much more likely to find step steel for CXN. Which is fine since it's better quality steel anyway. What do you mean CXN has not been produced for a very long time? The MakoII and its lower models isn't that old. If there was any indication of any new skates dropping that fit anything like the Mako, people wouldn't be stockpiling them like they are. They're selling like crazy and sold out of the most common sizes almost everywhere because there's nothing on the horizon that comes even close without going custom.
-
Sorry, your post just made it sound like they might not be as moldable as people say.
-
The Mako is an extremely thermomoldable skate. More so than just about everything except maybe VH. I may not have gotten as soft as some people expected but it was definitely extremely soft and pliable. "play-doh" isn't too far off a description of how the Makos get when heated correctly.

Well... just signed up for pickup next Tuesday. I'm terrified :) Also just registered for USA Hockey so I can take warm-ups with my team on Sunday. I figure I'll get out there, do some laps, stretch out, maybe a couple shots, and then hand the net over to the other goalie and just sit on the bench for the game. If that doesn't go well, I'll just cancel for Tuesday, no big deal.

It was a joke. Graf is dead. Apparently trying to revive themselves (see thread on the topic). That's why I made the joke. Never mind.
-
Maybe Graf could buy the rights to them... Okay, maybe not.

NHL.tv works great. Used it all last season. Of course, if you're watching your local team you can expect most games to be blacked out. That's relatively trivial to bypass, though. Otherwise I stick with the Reddit page. Most of the streams can easily be sent to your TV device via AirPlay (or whatever similar tech android stuff uses). Or just connect an HDMI cable to your laptop.

Recovery after broken ankle
IPv6Freely replied to ThePurpleCobra's topic in General Hockey Discussions
My doctor told me that the plate usually makes the recovery quicker because it's all being held together. He said mine wasn't displaced so I probably didn't need surgery but that he'd do it if I wanted to. I opted to skip it. Anyway, I actually forgot my warfarin pill on Saturday night so I just said screw it since I was going to be finished today anyway. So, it should be nearly all out of my system at this point (3-4 days they said). Hooray!!! I need to get out to skate some more this week. The public skate times kind of suck though. -
Me too. This position sucks badly when your feet hurt.

Yes they are. It wasn't just the first time I'd seen it being done. -
Having a glove you like, that fits well, is protective yet comfortable, and you have full confidence in is the most important. I'd go leg pads next though. For the most part a blocker is a blocker.

Recovery after broken ankle
IPv6Freely replied to ThePurpleCobra's topic in General Hockey Discussions
As much as it slowed my progress by not having it, I'm kind of happy I didn't have surgery based on the posts by you two, and others in this thread. It took me over a month longer than expected to actually get to where I am now, but at least I should have no issue with skating going forward. At least, once I build up the strength in BOTH legs/feet again so they aren't tired after 15 minutes. I can now balance on that foot, which obviously requires a lot of work in the foot to maintain the stabilization. It hasn't been painful to put full weight on it in a couple weeks, but it was still difficult to balance. I sure couldn't do that even a week ago, though. And now I'm working up the strength to stand on my toes on just my bad foot. It's difficult and I don't get really high, but I couldn't move it AT ALL at the last PT appointment. Week to week it's amazing to see the improvement. This weekend, I'm planning on bringing my gear, suiting up, and taking warmups. Then just sitting on the bench for the game. I figure it's a good way to see where I'm at without throwing myself into game action. I also plan to try to join in with my old pickup group next Tuesday. We'll see how the skating at public sessions goes this week. -

Also fair.
-
They may be innovative, but I still don't like them.
-
Okay, glad it wasn't me since my advice on sizing and stiffness was pretty much spot on. That's why I was confused.
-
Who was giving bad information?
-
I went 33+2 on the pads I have on their way now, but also added an aggressive curve and extra stiffness to them as well. The 34+1 didn't fit me at all. I'm in a 33+1 Brian's now.
-
I'd agree with you, it's a nice mid-way point. The big boxy shape is what's kept me away from the Warrior pads.
-
It's not so much wear I care about (though they do wear in a much different way than traditionally constructed pads), or even the awful glued on logos. It's really more that I'm just not seeing the weight savings as enough of a factor to switch to them, and don't see anything else appealing about them. Or put more simply, it's not that I think they're worse; I just think they're no better.

I don't remember this having ever been posted in here. Here's a video of the 3D scanning process: -
By the way what size are you?

Vaughn are by far at the bottom of the list as far as innovation. Vaughn is extremely traditional in almost every way. If you want innovation, stick to Warrior and Brian's. I would personally avoid the Bauer but that's mostly because I think their Supreme series is... really low quality. I hated the cheap feeling to them, even on the pro-level stuff. Heck, I had a friend of mine who knows nothing about goalie pads look at the 1S and ask me if they were "the cheap brand" because of the horrible feel of them and the ridiculous glued on logos. They're quite light for sure, but not enough for me to look past the other issues. FYI Reebok doesn't do hockey anymore so you're just looking at CCM (unless you're buying models from a couple years ago). You mentioned not buying pro-level or even top of the line Sr level pads so that basically eliminates Passau as well. You can get a full set of Passau for the same price as just the pro-level leg pads of all the other companies, thanks to the Canadian dollar. As far as quality/price at the low end, you just won't beat Brian's. Period. Their lowest tier (Netzero) is going to be better quality than almost every other companies mid-level stuff. They also have all the innovation going for them. Smart straps are incredible and I'd recommend them to anyone. I have the entry-level Brian's from a couple years ago (S-Series) and could not be happier with them for a lower-tier pad. Personally, I'm in the stiff pad fan club. I'd much rather kick out a rebound and have the time to get set than to have the puck hit me and die in front of me, which is just begging for a bang-in rebound, in my opinion. On top of all that, the previous model Warrior (G2) were really nice, and very innovative. If you're interested in innovative companies (and from your description, it seems like you are) that would immediately eliminate Vaughn and CCM, and push Brian's and Warrior to the front. My personal recommendation for you is Brian's. Either the Netzero series, or the old Subzero 2 SR level pads.

Errr... whoops, that's exactly what that is. Sorry. Go here instead: http://www.hockeyworld.com/Reebok-Skate-Lock
