Yea, totally true. Instead of skating in and taking a shot, they skate in, fumble with it, guys swing away at it, it goes off 3 different players skates in front of the net and goes in. All the while I'm being screened by my own defencemen! The one thing I have noticed though at lower levels is that players have zero confidence in the backhand, which makes reading dekes a bit easier... you can almost cheat a little bit to their strong side knowing theres little chance they're going to try to go back to the backhand. And even if they do, they aren't skilled enough to get it out to the side very far and it becomes a fairly easy pad save.

New mitts. CCM 4-Roll Prime 13" Black/white My EK15s were getting REALLY smelly (never had that before, my gear has never had any smell to it) and decided to try something different. I ordered these, some CL500s and some Bauer Nexus thinking if the CL500s don't fit right I've been wearing tight gloves for a long time and figured it was worth trying something on the other end of the spectrum. The CL500 felt WAY too small. Easily could have gone to a 14". The Nexus were big and floppy as I expected, but these 4-Roll Prime gloves were somewhat tight in the hand but insanely comfortable. It's also nice because they're half the price of the Nexus 800 and CL500s. Will be sending those back today :)

It's a lot of fun, I actually prefer it over skating out at this point. I also stopped him on another breakaway with a minute left :) That's actually a pretty good idea. Though this isn't a normal league, this is a true beginner "league" (really just two teams who play each other every week). We have coaches and non-USA Hockey refs. Really good for learning the game.

Won 3-2 last night. Only two goals I let in were by the guy who wasn't on their roster and was literally skating circles around everyone. Literally. Really bugs me that in a beginner league they would let this guy play because they "were short" (they "only" had 9 skaters). This is a league where we only started doing face offs two weeks ago and only started doing penalties this week. Some guys had never put hockey gear on until two months ago.

Those... Those are beautiful!!

EDIT AGAIN: It wasn't until I watched the video that I put a face to a name. Looks great, I'm in. -
You say that as if they weren't already :)

It used to be a whole hell of a lot worse. The bottom team... well, its the bottom division, there's not much you can do about them besides hope they get better. But the top team is clearly in the wrong place. The two middle teams are very even and while they usually beat us, it's rarely by more than one goal. Next season that team is moving up to D5 and they're forming a new team in D6, so they ARE addressing it. I just hate the thought of them celebrating like they won the stanley cup when they blow us out in the finals (assuming we win on Sunday). It's normally not even close, so I can only imagine how they'll play in the playoffs. Double digit goals wouldn't surprise me. At least they're going to be gone next season...

Heh these guys don't even bother sandbagging... they just run up the score every game because they can. http://iceplexescondido.hockeyshift.com/stats/standings/34/78/league/195

I actually suggested we just forfeit if we get there just so they don't get the satisfaction. Somebody else suggested we swap with our D4 team. Obviously it'd be a forfeit for us on paper but at least they would lose the actual game. :) We're the 3rd place team so we'll be playing #2 who beat us in OT last weekend, and every game we've played with them has been a 1-goal game. Could go either way. But I'm definitely secretly hoping we lose. HORRIBLE mindset and terribly unsportsmanlike, but I can't help it.

Holy crap. That post FTW. Thanks! I hear you can also get custom tongues made from maltese gel foams. That would probably be awesome. -
I know its wrong, but I’m honestly really hoping we lose our playoff game on Sunday. There's 4 teams in our league, and the top team has absolutely no business being in our division and wins most of its games by at least 5 goals. These are the kinds of guys who cherry-pick at 6-0 with 2 minutes left and celebrate like they scored the cup winner when it goes in. No class. I don't want to be the team losing in the championship to these asshats.

Most people who screw up at their work all the time get fired, not get more money.
-
Heh I remember when I was in college in 2006 and the teachers went on strike around this time of year. Really screwed a lot of people.Took four years and a lot of angry letters but I finally got the worthless piece of paper I earned. Only took four more years after that to finish paying for it. Using students as their bargaining chip is such a douche move.

FCC did the right thing today! They voted to adopt net neutrality rules to protect the open Internet by reclassifying internet access as a Title II public utility. http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2015/02/26/389259382/net-neutrality-up-for-vote-today-by-fcc-board

I'm quite impressed by the number of women there! We have one in our league (two teams).

Yea the AMT looks like a much more natural motion than a normal elliptical.
-
I found the elliptical to be a bit of an awkward movement. Did you find that, and just got used to it? Or did you never feel that way at all? Just wondering :)
-
Makes sense, I've never had cold skates before so never really thought about that.
-
Interesting you say that about them becoming loose. My Makos have such good wrap around my foot I almost think I could skate without laces at all!

Lost 7-0 today to a team of colossal douchebags. I mean really, who celebrates a 6-0 goal after cherry picking like it was the cup winner? Get over yourselves.
