I know I'm going to get zero sympathy here considering the above posts but... California winters! Being from Ontario, I actually do miss cold weather. If nothing else, because I prefer pants and sweaters over shorts and t-shirts.

Well its nice to have options :) The Mako was the first and only skate I've ever worn that wasn't painful. I'd probably have just bought something else if it had fit (really had no desire to spend $800+ on a pair of skates but had no other choice). Good luck :)

Other guy showed up, said he was fine with not playing because he could just go to work instead, so I ended up getting to play. My worry is that he was a regular with this group for years and I'm a bit worried that I might get pushed out now that he's back playing again.

Show up to the rink for pickup and somebody else's name is in my spot.

The arch area is absolutely heat moldable. There's even a video on how to do it on YouTube.

if the skates still look brand new some stores will take them back and just grind off the edges. DISCLAIMER: they aren't by any means required to so you should expect them to say no but it can't hurt to ask

I could see that if you rotate enough, like me going between my player skates and my goalie skates. I don't even notice.Out of curiousity, is it possible to shave down step steel to be the same shape as stock steel?

You can spot heat the arches and push them down.

Maybe I'll try my first Bauer stick, then.

I never actually tried them on the ice. I have two sets of steel I rotate through so I always have a fresh set, and when I got the black step and saw how DRASTICALLY different the shape is, it didn't make sense to rotate between those and stock steel. If I had bought two pairs of black step it may have been a different story. I assumed incorrectly when I ordered them that they would be the same shape as the stock steel, just a bit taller. There's more to the story too: the runners were stamped by the manufacturer with the wrong size, so I never even tried them in my holders before sending them back - I had no reason to believe they were the correct size despite the size stamped on them. The vendor said they had never ever seen steel stamped with the wrong size so they never check the number stamped on them and they just go by the box/packaging. So it was basically... well I have to send them back anyway, so I'll just take a refund instead of an exchange because I don't like the shape anyway. But that bit is irrelevant to the question, I just figured I'd mention it because it added to my frustration with my attempt at trying black step.

I just didn't like how different the shape was with the black step for the Mako. I wonder how much taller regular step is for bauer goalie skates compared to the stock steel, anyone know?

Added Bauer Nexus 600 pants. Looks like pants seem to not sell all that well, I've managed to get rid of almost everything else... heh. Looks like a trip to play it again sports may be in my near future...

Let in 6 goals in the first adult rookie league game last night. Very upset with myself. At least half of them were stoppable. Still won 8-6 though.

We traded in our 2010 outback for a 2012 X1 but we didn't care for it so we also bought a 2008 Volvo XC90 with the intention of taking it with us when we moved to Canada. The Canada move never happened though. Luckily I return my 135i next week so we'll be back down to just two cars again. Loved that Outback, though. Wish we'd kept it.
