Deposits are probably a good idea for high ticket items if that was ever going to be offered, but I'm not sure how much of a logistical nightmare that might be. Hmm.

300k houses don't really exist here. At least not unless you want to move to some of the more sketchy places. My wife and I are actually in the cheapest new construction you can find in the county.

Yeah I think I may go back and deactivate rather than delete just so I don’t lose 15 years worth of posts and photos and stuff. Deactivating also let’s you keep using FB messenger which I did still use a decent amount (I didn’t realize they weren’t tied together, or I would have deactivated a year ago when I first considered it) I got booted out of the group that was made for all the owners in our community because I hurt too many feelings (I told somebody their idea for speedbumps on the 55mph 4-lane road entering our communituy was a stupid idea, for example). That was pretty much the only reason I didn’t get rid of it last year s I’d stopped using it (other than messenger) by that point. Facebook had previously been a bit more important for me than many people though because my family and all my friends are thousands of miles away so it really was the best way to catch up. But they all mostly stopped posting so at that point why bother. A couple of my neighbors, after I got the boot, said the same thing: I’m probably better off not having to know how stupid everyone here is. Probably enjoy living in the community way more. They’re probably right about that, too. It’s like when people put political signs in their yard (thankfully not allowed here)... like, okay thanks for letting me know you’re an asshole... I’d have preferred to not know. My community is full of 20-somethings in 700k houses and man are they entitled. One of them actually had a local news crew come out to do a story on the “safety issues” in the community, like street lights being out (umm, it’s still under construction - they don’t energize them until that street is finished...) Yeah I’d say I’m better off... Huge digression there but that group was basically the last thing I was actually using FB for so once it was gone, it was time to pull the plug. Plus I guess it counts as another topic for this thread 😉 LOL

+1 for basic manual. It’s literally an entire book that covers things that aren’t rule related (positioning, where face offs go, etc) all the kind of stuff a ref needs to know but a player probably doesn’t. you can order hard copies online, too. I would also suggest getting certified. Even if you don’t NEED to, getting a chance to attend a seminar with a classroom portion and an on-ice portion (we seriously spent 10 minutes learning how to drop a puck so it lands flat!) is totally worth it. And who knows maybe you’ll love it and want to move up!

Skating lessons from a figure skater
IPv6Freely replied to Leif's topic in General Hockey Discussions
To be clear, there is a big difference between taking figure skating lessons, and taking skating lessons from a figure skating instructor. -
Skating lessons from a figure skater
IPv6Freely replied to Leif's topic in General Hockey Discussions
Yes. Consider this: in figure skating, crossovers and outside edgework are a fundamental. In (adult) hockey, they’re an afterthought. -
Player on the other team last night was ejected for homophobic slurs. The guy was already one of the biggest douchebags in the league not only for his play, but also for his mouth and of course the fact that he’s one of many on his team who are in the wrong division. This was just the cherry on top. Huge credit to the refs for doing the right thing. This could have gone in either the sweet spot or the venting spot but considering it shouldn’t have happened in the first place I decided to go with the latter.

Increasing rib area protection with composite
IPv6Freely replied to romdj's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
For sure man, there’s lots of options out there. I think a lacrosse rib protector would be your best bet. I’d probably want it on both sides just so it’s less awkward. theres also lots of shirts with rib protection too, though they may not be enough for you. -
Agreed. Basically any of them that look like a nun's collar or something. In both of the below cases, they actually look just fine on the white jerseys though. Both of the above would be helped greatly if the outer piping (blue for habs, black for hawks) was wider so that the blue/black and white were the same width. I feel like they (Adidas) are just trying to show off the new collar style, but both could be helped greatly by just using the jersey color instead of a contrasting collar, or if it were possible to add another color stripe in the collar, or something. If the Coyotes can do a pattern with their thirds, why can't everyone else? I'm VERY happy my team was one of the ones that did the "half way" contrasting collar. It's still not perfect but it's MUCH better. All that said, I would guess the players really like the collar to actually play in. The RBK collars seemed to really stand up tall on the neck.

Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
IPv6Freely replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I definitely would. The alignment tool is good but I wouldn’t depend on just that. -
I agree the Boston one is better, but I'm a huge fan of vintage unis so I'm happy to see the Hawks and Bruins both using unis from about the same time period.

One thing I want to be clear about. This isn't about winning or losing. At least, not in the way you might think. Losing every game because we can't get enough people to show up is very different from losing every game because we're just not being a very good team. Does that make sense? Honestly, I've considered this. Maybe having new stuff will make me pumped to get out there and see how it performs. All that said, I'm honestly wondering if this actually has anything to do with hockey. Or rather, whether the annoyance with hockey is a symptom, not the root cause. People who know me well know I'm not exactly a guy with the most rosy personality in the world but lately it's definitely worse than usual. Maybe this goes beyond what I should be posting on a hockey forum. I don't know.

I actually like the Adizero collars.

Okay guys let’s get back on-topic. We don’t need to fill the thread with the basics on how to use the Internet. -

You quoted the wrong post. -
I like seeing them too but I’m at a point where it feels like the 15 minutes before and after games don’t seem worth the effort either. I have no idea what the problem is

Stats/Wins/Losses have nothing to do with this.

Jack Edwards is hilariously bad.

Not so much in the middle of the games, but more before the game "why bother? We're just going to lose anyway?" and then after the game "why did i bother if we were just going to lose like this?" I'm not even sure. As for the goalie part I think it was how much improvement I was seeing so quickly when I started. It's really become pretty stagnant now though. I stop all the difficult shots and then the garbage goes in. And as for the "not fun because we lose all the time" thing, it's not so much that but its the WAY we lose. For a long time we were skating with 6-7 skaters and getting killed because nobody would show up (we have about 20 on our roster). Now we're consistently getting 9-10 which is awesome but we just find ways to lose. Last night we had multiple 2 goal leads and ended up losing 7-5 on two goals in the last minute. That was after standing on my damn head, getting run over on a guy cutting to the net (stayed down for a bit on that one because I was totally winded) and then later taking a puck to the throat. All to be able to say "as long as it doesn't go in!" I get it, winning isn't everything. But, this team we played last night has a good 4x the PIMs of any other team and it's obvious why. They had 4-5 roughing calls in the game for hits/punches/boarding/etc. All rough play that doesn't belong in D5. But, they defend well on the PK so it never seems to cost them. So they just bully their way into wins. It's just gotten old, that's all. So again it just feels like an "all that for nothing?" thing. every. single. game. Like, "why did I waste my time even showing up? Oh right because I'm the goalie and they're screwed if I don't..." Yeah, I'm whining. I get it. But that's where my head is at. I even told our captain before the game when he was like "you ready? how ya feeling?" to which I'm sure he was expecting a "yeah bud lets get em" response. Instead he got a "I dunno. I'm exhausted. Or lazy. Or something. I don't know what exactly, and I don't know why either." I hate that I had to make this thread. I mean, I didn't HAVE to by any means. But I'm trying to figure out if less hockey like @marka said was what I needed. Or maybe MORE hockey in the form of pickups to get some more work in on skills and practice. Or maybe I should go talk to somebody about off-ice. I don't know. I'm lost. Sorry for the rambling.

I’m not having fun anymore. I don’t know where to go from here. I can’t even explain how I feel. Every game just feels like “why bother?” Aside from the obvious “just quit” answer, what the hell do I do?

Probably 60 but that’s his history.

Hyman suspended for 2 games for a late check. https://www.nhl.com/app/news/maple-leafs-zach-hyman-suspended-two-games/c-302768250 Definitely late, definitely interference, but 2 games worthy? Shrug.
