David Perron

Recommended Posts

i know every persons recovery time is different - but if david got hurt before crosby and is out for the rest of the year - it makes it seem like crosby is unlikely to be back either if he wants to completely recover..

David took a much more significant blow to the head than Crosby did. As you said though, every person and every concussion is different.

haven't posted much as there's not much to say. So unless Pascal can add anything, David went to see some big concussion specialist in Vancouver (the Doc also worked on Andy McDonald and other NHL players). Can't wait to have David back in the Note along with the Russian Tank - Vlad Tarasenko. Could be an exciting 11-12 season. On a happier note, I did win an auction through the Blues for a #57 game used home jersey.

There will only be one Russian Tank in my mind and that is Andrei Kovalenko.

Here's hoping Perron experiences a full recovery. He was really starting to get noticed around the league.

He was really starting to get noticed around the league.

Exactly. He'd already made a name for himself and his coaches/teammates knew his abilities, but the rest of the league was seeing it too right when he got injured.

I saw an interesting interview in french, on RDS, a couple of weeks ago. I never knew how bad this could get. David spoke about how every little thing was hard to accomplish, and still is, kind of. For example, he said he couldn't even take a walk with his dog without getting severe headaches and blurry vision after no more than 5 minutes. That's just walking so anything physical must be impossible to do. Fortunately, things were improving.

Just a rumor, but the Islanders are looking at Perron for the #5 pick.

Perron-JT-Moulson

Grabner-Nielsen-Okposo

Comeau-Bailey-Nino

Sick top 9, I'd do that trade in a heartbeat so long as DP's head is alright.

David still not working out, from this morning's St. Louis Post-Dispatch

"More discouraging news on forward David Perron from Blues GM Doug Armstrong. Perron, making slow progress in his recovery from a devastating concussion, continues to experience headaches. Armstrong told me that the team soon would have to make roster plans on the assumption that Perron will be unavailable for training camp and the start of the season."

tough news, it seems as if he can't get a break. I hope he pulls through this, he's such a dynamic player.

It goes to show how serious concussions are

I can't even imagine how frustrating and scary it must be to have post concussion symptoms for this long. I hope he can make a full recovery and resume his career.

I hope he can make a full recovery and resume a normal life. It has to be scary for him to be going through this after having seen what it can do to Kariya.

Looks like some updates should be coming very soon

Quote

Blues fans can expect an update on forward David Perron in the very near future. I'm told GM Doug Armstrong will speak with Perron at some point next week to get a better idea of where he is in his recovery. Perron's availability for training camp should be clearer following the meeting. If Perron shows the necessary level of progress, the Blues will likely map out a plan that hopefully lands their former first round pick back on the ice.

An early August meeting has been arranged for several weeks as Perron continues to recover from a November 4th concussion which led to him missing the Blues final 72 games of the season.

Perron will eventually need to return to St. Louis and pass a number of tests in front of Blues medical personnel before he receives clearance to begin skating.

More to come,

Perron won't start the season with the Blues, via Yahoo.

Really hope he starts to turn a corner soon. I know for the Wild Pierre-March Bouchard went through the same thing and missed 18 months of hockey and came back this year better than ever. It'd be great for Pierre-Marc to reach out to David and let him know what he went through and some reassurance, kind of like how Patrice Bergeron spoke with Pierre-Marc when he was recovering.

Too bad no one spoke with Savard. I hope Perron can turn the corner, while it doesn't sound good, it always seems like it can happen at anytime. Must be tough-as-shit waiting around though. Would love to see those hands next season.

Blues press conference Monday AM - here's the story from the local paper

David Perron, who has been out of the Blues' lineup since last November with post-concussion syndrome, will return to the team on Monday.

The Blues made the announcement in a press release this afternoon. According to the release, Perron and general manager Doug Armstrong are expected to be available to the media at 11 a.m. Monday.

Perron isn't expected to practice tomorrow, but his return to the club is seen as the first promising step in his physical recovery from post-concussion syndrome.

Perron has not played since Nov. 4, when San Jose's Joe Thornton delivered a crushing hit at center ice. Thornton was suspended for two games.

In August, Armstrong announced that Perron would not be healthy enough to begin training camp with the Blues. And he cautioned that when Perron was ready to resume practicing, it would take some time before he was in game shape.

"He hasn't lifted weight yet or trained since the injury," Armstrong said in August. "Not only is he going to have to get his skating legs back, he's going to have to get his body back in NHL shape. With that is going to come his puck skills, his hands and timing. There's going to be a process that he's going to have to go through once he does get medically cleared to do the physical training.

"Everyone is different, but we're not going to put David in a position to fail. We're going to put him in there when he's ready."

That time, however, appears to be getting closer.

That's good news. It sucks not being able to do what you love because of a concussion but I cannot imagine the frustration it is for a person who makes his living ( and often knows nothing else) from playing hockey. It sucked for me not to be able to play for a while but just imagine if your whole life has been about playing hockey and then you can't. Kudos to David for the patience in such trying circumstances.

David with the team on the road trip and now on live during the tv broadcast "it felt like there were a hundred guys out there" he said following his first practice with the full team. Still wearing the red "no contact" jersey.
