I experienced issues with my big toe running in all skates. Ended up using a silicone sleeve over my big toe all the time. When I got my VH I had them build some space in there for me so it hasn’t been an issue. I also actually did the opposite of @stick9 and switched away from waxed laces. I found that I didn’t need my skates nearly as tight anymore because of how molded they are to my feet. I could easily skate (but not play hockey) without laces at all. Still use a damn shoe horn to get them on!

Ditch the Fusion steel and keep the existing holders. You can find non edge steel for dirt cheap. If the holder actually breaks at some point you can revisit it then, but I wouldn't swap unless you need the quick change feature.

I disagree. I have seen dozens of edge holders develop slop where the steel fits, it is the most obvious thing in the world when we put it in the jig to sharpen them and the boot flops. It may be a generation issue (around the MX3 release it is very common), a change in design / material / production plant or it could be that they just haven't had long enough yet but the problem does not seem so bad on the latest S / X / N Bauer skates (I have only seen 2 so far that went back for warranty repair). Now dozens of skates may seem insignificant until you consider we would be one of the smaller markets (around a 1k player base in the city) so the amount of failures is statistically significant and is backed up by employees in our LHS (we only have one). On the other side of the equation "one good experience <> everyone must have had a good experience". As to what causes the issue I have no idea, it seems to be a roll of the dice as I have also seen MX3's that are beaten to death and the steel still sits straight. But there is an issue there (I am not the only person who has sharpened skates who has made this observation on this forum) and you saying you haven't had one does not make it go away. Which leads to a side issue but one that players should be aware of. Sparx, Pro Sharp and other vertical sharpeners can make the problem worse. The issue isn't apparent when getting sharpened so it requires the player or sharpener to use other measures to check for the problem (and be extra vigilant with maintenance checks). Just trying to wiggle the blade in the holder is not enough.

Yeah I get weird looks, too. Then I explain that they're custom and wrap my foot. Mine are the old ones with the VH logo, too. Maybe take a look at http://www.protectiveathleticwear.com/materials.htm and see if they have a foam that would work for you?

Good to hear! I'm literally smiling reading about your experience just because I felt the same way when I did my first game (Squirts) haha. It seems that only after one game you already have made yourself a better player because you now have experienced a glimpse of what a referee has to go through and process during a game. @IPv6Freely has given good advice/feedback. All I say is: go to a seminar! You'll be better for it even if you just stay a Level 1. Keep it going and continue giving us updates!

The former. I make sure they're even first (cross grind on Prosharp in tandem) then apply the profile. You may want to invest in Custom Skateworks' profiling jig to get both sets even. I still use it on the Prosharp - they provide a magnetic tool to hold both sets, but with the CSW jig there's a bit more weight to it.

I would definitely describe the fit on my 1X's as a "pro fit". I've experienced some sore toes from the close, tight fit. I've found socks can be problematic. The seam is a huge factor. I've had some punching done to widen the area and swtiched to waxed laces to better hold my foot back in the boot. Problem solved....for me.

I love my VH/True skates! (me trying to steer us back on topic)

I haven’t had any issues with Edge holders in 5 years. We really need to relax with the “one bad experience = everyone must have had a bad experience” mentality on this board. It leads to a lot of bad information.

Hey, Paddy. I'm the manager at Sterling, and I can say our Inventory levels have been getting higher and higher throughout the year, and will continue to increase this year. Do we have everything we would like currently? Definitely not, but that's going to be drastically change over the next couple of months. Let me know if you have any questions!

@smu don't sweat it. A couple of things might help. 1) if you you want to connect with a member directly, use the private message function. 2) posts on forums are best when they are direct and to the point. Skip the story, just give us the details. 3) if you need to reference your initial post, don't type it out again, just link it. Again, direct and to the point.

Howdy, Oh yeah... The tron visor worked great. Didn't fog up, was visually fine, etc. etc. I'm pretty sure I NEVER want to play with it though, since I think I would like it a LOT and I really like my teeth, eyes, and facial structure. Mark

I agree....sort of. However. 1 The thread has become so decisive where certain people will not read it, thus not contributing. Some of those members are experienced fitters who could add a great deal to the conversation. That's actually a negative. 2 The thread is so massive you can't possibly read through it to find an answer or the info you seek. 3 The polarizing nature of the thread in my opinion is not a good look for product, the brand or the site itself. 4 Locking it down doesn't mean it goes away. If it were up to me, I'd lock, start a new one linking the old one and set some guidelines as to what goes where, maybe a catch all custom skate thread is where it's at.... 5 I think members would be better served bring their True questions to the general public. They'd get more input from a broader ranger of members and knowledge bases. It would cut back on the bickering and pom-pom waving. Again, it's not up to me. Just thinking out loud. There is one tiny little thing that irkes me. Why do some True owners feel the need to carry water for the company? Look through other threads. Anytime there is a fit question, you'll get a few True owners posting "get Trues". They aren't answering the question asked or taking into account the context in which it was asked.

Went on our longest hike yet. 10+ miles up a mountain (2300’ increase up to about 8900’). The top 1/3 or so was in snow and we had to wear spikes on our boots. Walking almost nonstop for 6.5 hours! Amazing views!

Came off third ride last week and onto my new "permanent" shift today. No fewer than 6 people have expressed concern to me about my new partner's competence and whether it's a good idea for him to be paired with a new paramedic and man, that was not a good sign. After 12 hours I have concerns about his ability to function as a person. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel: a shift at the base nearest to me has recently come open, and I could work with someone both competent and not ... ... so .. ... odd. 😐 Time to contact scheduling...
