I’m just surprised at how more and more players are wearing their socks over their tendon guards 🤮 why?!

A "Heavy" CCM Jetspeed FT4 Pro Stick??
Westside replied to clarkiestooth's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
This post got me curious so I decided to weigh my FT3 pro and it came in at 451g. That’s 85 flex cut down to 64”, but also taped up on the bottom and a tacki Mac up top. Comparing it to my Vapor ADV, which came in at 378g. Assuming the tape/tacki Mac weighs approximately 20g, that would still put the FT3 pro 50g over it’s listed weight. Thought my scale might have been off so I weighed a brand new STX Halo in the same specs and it came in at 382g which is pretty damn close to STX’s claimed weight of 380g (which it would be once I cut it down). The FT3 pro was purchased from hockey stick man and had a player’s name on the name bar. Im not terribly concerned as I still enjoy the stick, but the weight is definitely noticeable when holding both sticks side by side. -
Looking for Jock Compression short with Garter Belt
Westside replied to iceman8310's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Buy once cry once is my motto. The CCM jock has lasted me far longer than any other jock I’ve used so while I agree it’s expensive, it’s also lasted -
The new True Hzrds is supposed to be what, 340g?!? Looking forward to just holding that stick but also seeing how durable it will be
-
Not familiar with that, hairspray helps the grip slide/twist on easy then it holds it in place once it dries. Never had one move on me which is obviously important
-
Same. Maybe you can't remove them with destroying them if you use the tape? I use the hairspray method and they come off by kind of rolling the grip up. Easy to put on a new stick
-
It’s thicker than tape, but can be stretched out so it’s fairly thin. Feel it’s not much different than lizard skins in that regard
-
I’ve been using tacki Mac and tennis overgrip on my twigs for the last few years and have zero complaints. Haven’t worn through a set of palms since using either. Tacki Mac I use just the grip, not the adhesive strips, which cuts down on bulk and improves stick feel. I’ve worn through one of the grips but for the most part, they last longer than the stick. Tennis overgrip needs to be replaced after a season or so. Gives a bit of a cushioned feel, but is also considerably cheaper at $5 or $6 for 3 wraps

VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
Westside replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
The shop that did mine (XS holders) did not fill the holes. They might have used 1-2 existing and drilled the rest new. I’d say using proper rivets would make a bigger difference than filling holes. I’ve actually never had anyone fill old holes before drilling new ones -
Oof. I suppose I should consider myself lucky that I've never had to spend 20 hours to break in properly fitting skates. Coming from a decade of various Bauers into Trues, the only thing I did was swap holders and bake them. First skate onward they felt like a dream. Only had one minor issue fixing a hot spot on the inner arch, but beyond that True skates have been amazing for my feet

I just assumed that was a high school kid

Maybe it’s the angle/reflection but those graphics look terrible compared to the previous gens IMO

Right... but why do you feel a new post would provide you that answer when an existing thread asking the exact same question was just made less than a week ago? -

TF7 and TF9 rollers have been discounted 20%. Great deal on an already good package https://www.hockeymonkey.com/true-roller-hockey-skates-tf9-sr.html?trk_msg=7NFDD0FB0774H5I18GH44HHGAS&trk_contact=2B2IU7IHIF2642TA24LAJAL4M4&trk_sid=FL6AJ4ABR8BFR5MSB33AGIJ4CS&trk_link=26U1I6UP5Q841DRB6HA6M0EA44&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=True+TF9+Senior+Roller+Hockey+Skates&utm_campaign=LTK+True+Roller+Hockey+Skates+Price+Reductions

Thanks for the input. I’ll reach out to him and ask if he’s able to do what I’m looking for

How do you find the quality of his work compared to CPR for palms? And what was the turnaround time? Was thinking about sending a pair over for some AX suede palms

Stick Experts… Bauer 3X Pro vs CCM FT3 Pro?
Westside replied to Westside's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Had my first game with the FT3 pro over the weekend. Stick did feel great and my shots felt real strong with it. Only issue I ran into throughout the game was my shots going higher than I’m used to. Stick specs are more or less the same to my Vapor sticks so the primary difference is hybrid vs low kick. Do mid kick sticks shoot higher or do I simply need to adjust my technique to get them 2-3” further down? -
O1 Kraft Team junior sizes - stiff enough for adult?
Westside replied to krisdrum's topic in Roller Hockey Equipment
Can’t Speak to the Kraft boots, but I’m a big fan of matching my ice boots to my roller boots. No need to adjust one way or the other when that’s the case. Also gives you the ability to use whatever chassis/wheel combo you want rather than what the manufacturer forces you to buy -
I’d check Michaels or Joann fabrics for some soft/stretchy/durable fabric. For padding, I ordered a 12”x12” sheet of poron off Amazon in the early days of quarantine to add backhand padding to a pair of gloves I had
-
I use the standard insert on the R1. Had the O1 and wrote a comparison between the two a while back (it might be in this thread). Standing still the O1 required you to stabilize yourself more (I had the center bolt very loose), but in actual use I found them both to be very similar. The R1 chassis doesn't move as much as the O1, but when you're skating around it was difficult to tell the difference between the two. In my comparison I literally had the R1 on one foot and the O1 on the other

Obviously it's all personal preference, but I didn't find much difference between PPTK and PP90 size wise. I'm using the same size girdle and shell (medium). I took these photos a few months back:

If anyone is still watching this topic, I figured I'd post a slight update to this as I've been wearing the new tops for a few months now. The Warroad has some pilling on the fabric as it gets caught pretty easily on any piece of velcro that comes close to it. No holes or anything yet, but this is concerning for long-term durability. The Shock Doctor is just too damn hot for me personally. I can feel the sweat dripping whenever I wear it unless I'm in a super cold rink. I ended up finding another another top on sale for about $30 and decided to buy a new TSLA top for $15. Cut the sleeves off of the SD and sewed them onto the TSLA. Have a bye week this week so no games, but I think this might be the perfect base layer for me. The shirt is lightweight, back is all mesh for breathability, and the shock doctor sleeves are easy to use and hold my pads into place. Seeing as I got the components for the project for cheap, it was worth trying and if it sucks I'm not out much money. Back view; the back panel of the TSLA is one giant piece vs 3 on the Shock Doctor, plus it's mesh and lighter weight for much better breathability. I folded it kind of wonky in this photo, but the sleeves do match. Blew the crotch out of my go-to base layer bottoms recently and replaced them as well. Back panel is almost all vented mesh for solid breathability. Took some gripper sock paint and made designs to help hold my shins in place. Did this to my old pair and it works surprisingly well.

Stick Experts… Bauer 3X Pro vs CCM FT3 Pro?
Westside replied to Westside's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Thanks for the input all. I had a Trigger stick around 2017/2018, but not in a curve I liked. Heard bad things about the Trigger 5, but a lot of good things with the Trigger 6. If I can find one of those at a good price down the road I'll give it a shot. In the meantime, I think I'll try out the FT3 Pro to see what all the hype is about. With the FT5 Pro shown in the CCM catalogue hopefully that'll mean I can find another FT3 Pro for even cheaper, or pick up an FT4 Pro if I like the hybrid kick point. -
It’s come the time to replace the last of my Bauer 1X lite sticks that I’ve been using for the last few years. No complaints about them, but obviously they’re pretty much impossible to find now. I was debating about an FT3 Pro or 3X Pro; both I’ve found in my preferred curve/flex and both are essentially the same price. Has anyone used either of these sticks and/or the 1X Lite? Thoughts on FT3 Pro over 3X Pro? Obviously the CCM is all about the hybrid kickpoint, but because it’s a mix of mid and low, I thought the two sticks might still have a similar release.
