Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
mojo122 replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Depends on who owns/operates the rink pro shop and how profitable it is and whether the portable sharpener requires an electrical source or is battery operated. If electrical, they could just cap off available electrical outlets if there are any. Some of the rinks I skate in don't have electrical outlets in the locker rooms. -
I've skated in them twice (not mine, but my size). Once recently and once pre-Covid. It's a very nice skate and the tongue alone is a huge improvement of the 2S Pro. Add the improvement to the tendon, the new asymmetrical toecap, and the Quad 0 on the Titanium coated steel and I really like it a lot more than the 2S Pro. The increased wrap of the facing made my foot feel as if it had better contact with the ice with each stride. That's not to say I didn't like the 2S Pro, but it took a long time for the bottom of the tongue to depress and for me to get the skate dialed in. Only disappointment for me is a size 6 2S Pro had a full composite outer sole and the same size Ultrasonic does not.

I'd stay away from the 1X Lite. I've seen a fair number of strap failures on that pad (including mine).

So what makes shoulder pads more protective?
mojo122 replied to cause4alarm's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I want all 3...protective while being light and non-restrictive. -
I've seen the same as well...

Moving forward all those curves are MyBauer custom only.

Thoughts on the new Bauer Vapor 2X Pro protective?
mojo122 replied to VegasHockey's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Shins - Don't like the fact that they ditched the flex cap. 2X Pro seems cheap compared to the 1X Lite. Calf strap is nice if you have skinny legs Pants - like the belt system. Elbows - very comfortable, top strap is a big improvement. But what's up with how pointed they are and stick out. Shoulders - caps sit better on the shoulder. Wish they kept Curv for the sternum in the 2X Pro instead of the plastic. Gloves - lighter, seem to fit a bit smaller. Not crazy about the new palm and the foams on top of the fingers seem spongey. Bauer for years was proud of the 3 flex thumb, so I don't know why the change in the 2X Pro. Mobility seems fine with the 2-piece. Not crazy about the cuff (prefer the 1X Lite Pro cuff). *The extreme lightness may give the false impression of the line being cheap. Won't know for sure until we see how it wears over time. -
Bauer Supreme 3S fitted in store felt good - feel too big on ice
mojo122 replied to Goro's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Hope this shop is nowhere near me... -
Love it!

More advanced? How so? They both use petty much the same carbon fiber in their top of the line sticks. I think Bauer does a better job of matching blade stiffness to kick point.

Might be wrong but my impression is he is referring to length and not width. My experience with the new Fit system and 3D Scanner is that it has been pretty accurate when it comes to size. Often however, folks can't get their foot fully seated into the back of the skate and it feels too tight for them lengthwise out of the box. When the skate is baked and the foot is fully seated in the back of the boot. the length is now fine. Preference as to how one wants their skates to fit also needs to be taken into consideration. -
What? You don't enjoy informercials starring Hockey Tutorial...🤣

When the rink reopens are you going to skate immediately?
mojo122 replied to DarkStar50's topic in General Hockey Discussions
We're supposed to be able to start up on July 7th. I'm older but healthy and plan on getting back on the ice immediately. -
Are the newer Ribcore skates the highest volume CCM skate?
mojo122 replied to beardacus's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Take it for it's worth, but I know of several skaters that scan for Vapor and they also scan for RibCor using the CCM scanner. -
See the QuikBlade holder/runner setup on their "coming soon" skate. Wonder if Wally Tatomir is directly or indirectly involved with the new Verbero management team?

Or just get a blade wrap for the stick. Hockey Stick Wrap Around

Single Favorite Piece of Equipment Ever
mojo122 replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Other than the obnoxious bold "CCM" branding I think the skate is rather subdued. -
I'm currently in protracted discussions with my agent regarding my retirement from hockey 🤣. That being said if things are back to some sense of normalcy I'd be in for SummerJam! I say let this ride for a bit longer unless it's stressing you out, in which case no one will fault you for cancelling the event for 2020.

Happy Birthday MSH. Party postponed until this pandemic is over.

The majority of people who do that also have floppy tendon guards.

Definitely interested...

Thoughts on these skates "flexing"?
mojo122 replied to JimmyTheDriver's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Any retailer selling My Bauer Custom Skates should be providing that level of service. If they're not, then someone on the training side didn't do their job. Here's my recommendation: 1. Get your feet scanned. Go barefoot with a very slight knee bend 2. Try on fit stock. Start with the recommended sizing for each foot using the custom skate selection. If your toes aren't feathering the toecap try on a half size smaller and keep trying on skates until you have dialed in the fit you want. You can downsize and upsize in 1/4 increments. 3. Make sure the retailer/fitter notes every single problem spot or concern in the notes section. The more detailed the notes the better. For example I scan a 7EE retail, custom a 7 1/4 and 6 3/4. I'm currently skating in a 6EE retail 2S Pro and feel that if I went customs I could go 6 1/4 and 5 3/4. -

For first time customs in most cases the fitter should make note of any troublesome area and customs' department decides how to address it. Keep in mind that even with customs you might still need to do some tweaking afterwards. -

Some materials are more thermoform able than others. Often times I've seen Bauer models with Curv mold around the bone and not require any punching. Nylon boots on the other hand often require punching. Either way any reputable shop should have the know how and tools to take care of it.
