Best replacement for Easton core socks
xstartxtodayx replied to iceman8310's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I picked up a pair of Warroad socks, they were super thin. Really nice materials and constriction but way too thin for my liking. If you're close to a size 9.5 shoe I'd be happy to send them your way since it was a "one and done" for me with them. -
I noticed the logos looked cheap too, wondering if pro stock versions might look better lol. My teammate picked up a 720 and I was checking it out last week. He has a medium which was wayyy too big for me and said they felt like they ran on the bigger side compared to the 910 (looking at the inner padding it did seem thinner overall from the shell to the inside of the padding so that would make sense). My complaint about the 910 is the thin outer layers of padding/coverings, they create pockets where sweat lives and will not dry... for example, after airing it out overnight hanging in the garage then hanging outside on a fence for a few hours I can still squeeze lots of sweat out if I simply touch the forehead area, it's nasty, I've even tried washing and soaking and it hasn't done too much for the stench, so that is one thing I was hoping the 720 might help with. I still haven't had a chance to get to a store to try one for myself in my size (I'm an hour+ to my closest hockey shop, my blades need sharpening so I'm trying to plan a trip soon lol).

It's a pet peeve of mine 😂 I have one pair that folds in way too easily and it really bothers me.
-
It's a traditional 3 pc design, same as Jetspeed/U+/RBZ, some Warrior models, and a bunch of others (as opposed to the 2 piece style which the elbow/forearm is all one piece). The images above show the bicep guard (not the forearm padding) stuck inside the elbow cap on the bottom pic, it should slide on the outside of the elbow cap not the inside, so the top pic is how they should go.

Bauer Profile Cages - differences
xstartxtodayx replied to xstartxtodayx's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Just be sure it's the OG Profile II not the second gen one, don't make the same mistake I made 😞 I ended up finding another OG one on SLS for about $30 shipped which is a backup now. -

I think the waist would be fine and depending where you like the thigh pads sitting you might be ok. I have mine adjusted -1" and they sit just above my knee cap pad when standing, a little on the longer side than most like I'm guessing. They can go as much as +1" so you might have to try them on, or get a large to be safe. -

Glove Modification - finger length
xstartxtodayx replied to Dizzyg12's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
ITR is a glove repalming/repair guy, he does great work but it's a dying art which is actually quite difficult and labor intensive (which is why the premier gear specialist, Custom Pro Repair, up in Montreal is calling it quits after years of working for the best of the best). https://www.itrhockey.com/repair.html For what you're describing my guess would be probably around $100 but that's just a guess. I had a pair of loves re-palmed with fancy materials and new airknit gussets and it was about $180, I would not spend that if it were a pair of gloves that are easy to come by. -
I compared a small 910 to a medium Super Tacks X and the 910 was noticeably lighter. I don't remember the exact weights (I used my trusty coffee scale lol) but it was surprising (the 910 small is not much different size wise than a med. Super Tacks X so I thought they'd be closer than they actually were).

I'd contact ITR to get a quote (they do great work) but I'm with JBear, I don't think it would be cost effective. -
Warrior Alpha LX Pro Stick
xstartxtodayx replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
That's how it is with other brands but what I've seen is reversed for Warrior, the first two characters denote the blade construction (T8 for QX, T9 for QREdge, and some others I haven't seen much of). Here's an old thread discussing them (also if you google T8LXP you should get a result from HockeyLion that describes the shadt/blade codes on a stick they have a for sale): -

I don't remember exactly since I've been wearing the ST for like 3+ years now but I know the ST I have adjusted up to the -1" mark and it sits just above my knee still (I'm 5'9"), so I want to say the thighs run a little longer but not 100% positive lol -

The Super Tacks tailbone padding is much better than 9K tailbone padding imo, it covers more area to the sides with segmented parts and extends farther downwards. I have not tried other pro stock options but have had Coopers back in the 90's, Tackla, and Easton and had a Bauer wrap style for a little bit that I hated (I prefer more traditional step in girdles or the CCM hybrid style like the 9K/ST). Overall I find the ST girdle more protective than the 9K was and it's lighter, it's a win-win for me. -

Sounds like a legit LX2 Pro with a QX blade (T8). I'm not familiar with the difference in blade builds but the T8 seems to be very common/popular. -

No way youi'd fit a medium, I'm a 32 waist and the medium is perfect on me. The thigh pads are way narrower than the 9K was, I would go large if I were you. -

The ones I've had are all "T8LXP" stamped on the underside, which, as far as I know, means it's an LX Pro shaft with a QX blade. I've had a retail LX pro and can't tell the difference in blades, only things different are one pro stock has no sand paper grip on the blade and also 2 of my pro stocks have the awesome tactile grip on the shaft instead of the tacky stuff (wish the tactile/basketball textured grip was standard on all sticks I hate the tacky grippy coatings). -
The rabbit hole just got a little deeper lol
-
The Super Tacks tailbone is a little wider and longer and has more of the soft/secondary padding off to the sides than the 9K had so it seems to cover more area and help on some of those off centered landings from what I've found. The ST definitely added some much needed spine protection over the 9K, and having the adjustability makes it all the better. As for shell attachment, I just use the belt on the shell, some of mine don't even have the belt just the velcro fly up front and as long as it's the right size for me that works just fine.
-
could it be due to shape maybe? I wore V08's before the 910 and the fit was essentially the same, I went from a small V08 to a small 910 both adjusted in about the middle of the range (also when I wore a Bauer IMS9 for a but I was a medium). I tried on a 710 a few times and it was too round for me, I also owned the older Resistance model which shared the same shell with different padding and that crushed my forehead when I wore it for any more than 5 minutes, was just way too rounded for my oval head lol.
-
I've tried and bought so many elbow pads over the years, mainly b/c I have skinny arms and finding a pair that fits well/stays in place and is long enough is a challenge, and partly b/c I just always like trying new stuff 🤣 I have 4 pairs I'm rotating through right now, I have issues lol
-
The fit is what it will come down to. Super/Ultra Tacks are the bloodline from the old Jofa stuff, some consider it the gold standard for protection and mobility, but if it doesn't fit your body right then it won't matter. I have a pair of Super Tacks elbow pads and they're super protective and very mobile. I also have some 3pc models like Jetspeed FT4 Pro and U+ CL (and had RVBZ's in the past which share the same DNA as Jetspeed, Quicklite, U+), these pads are lighter and more mobile but also have some good protection. My one complaint is over the model generations they changed some of the fit, they usually ran kind of short in forearm protection until the Quicklite generation where the elbow cap got massive and forearm went to a normal length, with the Jetspeed models the elbow cap got very streamlined and forearm length remained a good length (also these tend to fit skinnier arms better... I usually have to shorten straps to get the fit right but didn't have to modify any straps on my Jetspeed FT4 Pros). I have the U+ CL which is similar shape as the U+ Pro but with different strapping and less padding... the elbow cap on that might not be enough if your Tacks pads aren't enough, the Tacks elbow cap seems to have more protection/negative space between in donut area, than the U+ models I've had. It sounds like you may have a more pointy elbow, so I have a feeling the CCM models may not offer enough protection... maybe look into some Bauer models. I have the UltraSonic and the elbow cap is way pointier/goes out much farther, than any of my CCM pads (when I put my arms straight down the elbow pad corner juts out pretty far). I've also noticed on most Bauer elbow pads that they share this extended pointy elbow design, this might offer you that extra bit of protection you're looking for.

Just saw these advertised recently and looked at them on various sites... anyone have any hands on experience with them? It appears to be the same shell as the 910 (and therefore the Tacks X), but with totally different padding and a lower price tag. I've tried Tacks X and it didn't fit my head right, the small was way too tight and the medium just felt like it swallowed my head and sat too low, so I've been sticking with the 910's I have (all small which fit my oval head perfectly in about the middle of the adjustment range). I know I've tried the 700 series Tacks helmets in the past and they were all a round shape which crushed my forehead, so I'm curious about the 720 since it looks the same as a 910 from the outside. The specs I've seen also have the 720 coming in almost 50g lighter than the 910 (which is pretty light already). Jjst curious since a couple of my 910's are getting seriously funky (the padding traps sweat and is nearly impossible to dry fully, I've tried soaking and washing and they still stink lol).

I can't use a P90T/Benn or P90/29/92, I've tried and it just never feels good to me lol, I came from a P28 which is why the P90TM feels so natural, it's so much closer to that than a P90/29/92. Glad I'm not the only super picky one.
-
supposedly SherWood also has a P90TM called a PP90, I've only seen it on curve charts never in the wild yet, I keep looking though lol

Warrior Alpha LX Pro Stick
xstartxtodayx replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I'm a huge fan of the LX Pro stick, and like you use a pattern not easy to find... I'm dreading finding more P90TM's in the LX Pro, I check for more Tyson Jost sticks every week on the usual sites lol. I find thr Alpha LX Pro similar to a Jetspeed but it just feels better to me, has a better release and mine tend to be more durable.
