  1. That's why I don't want to get retail trues. Going down half a size for me would put me in a smaller holder. The money I'd spend on swapping holders to ccm xs ones and upgrading to a felt tongue (for tf9) I would prefer to get customs and not have excess holes on the sole of the boot too. But that's just me.
  2. Tell him not to use the tendon guards to remove or put on the skates. Likely that's what's causing the damage.
  3. Also just use black enamel markers or sharpie aside from acetone
  4. Replacing parts on skates other than steel and holders has never really been an option. Once certain parts broke you are hooped or had to find someone that might be able to fix it. Ie tendon guards, traditional eyelets etc. Do we give shoe manufacturers shit for not having replacement parts?
  5. You can argue it's a manufacturing defect but imo the injected eyelet system is a giant defect in itself...
  6. He took a shot off them. Regardless whether they are a day old or five years old, they would've broke. Even if it was within warranty Bauer probably could easily say too bad since breakage due to shot blocking isn't really a manufacturing defect. Would they have covered it if it was withing warranty, probably. But after warranty no way they will knowing Bauer's history. Plastics will always potentially break from impact. Shitty deal for OP though.
  7. The cat pro is diff than the cat customs. Until they actually release we won't know what they will look like exactly. What you see the pros wear isn't anything indicative of what will be offered at the retail level. Or even custom level. You can only make assumptions. But for me I agree, the less yellow or any other vibrant color, the better.
  8. Then the boot probably wasn't soft enough. Never had an issue with my trues but those get pretty soft
  9. This works to specifically pinpoint areas without risking eyelet damage. Or using your hands to massage the boot around your foot after tying at 60%. The eyelet facings will wrap more and produce some slack in the laces which will also prevent excessive pulling on the eyelets. Or... True saran wrap method.
  10. The catalogue is also pics of retail. Tf retail has slight differences than the tf customs. So this isn't a surprise.
  11. I thought he just pulled his sleeves up not actually had them cut off.
  12. Just get new holders if you have a trustworthy LHS.
  13. Same place / site that was just posted but this link is for vh and pre TF true skates. https://www.hockeyvancouver.ca/collections/true-vh-hockey-skate-repair-parts/products/true-hockey-replacement-heel-tendon-guard
  14. Basically a lizard skin knockoff.
  15. Butt endz is a huge waste of money when you can get tacki macs. I like the subtle looks of tacki macs better too. I personally like lizard skins the best. Soft and grippy and doesn't damage palms. Only thing is that black does transfer some colour onto the palms but they don't damage the palms. Lizard skins also don't last as long as butt endz or tacki Mac and isn't transferrable from stick to stick. I only get lizard skins on sale. Otherwise I'd settle with stretch grip tape. Or even tennis grip.
  16. There's no way all the holes would line up if you went from shift holders to any other holder. Unless you're talking about tthe old step vh holders
  17. I did it myself. If you know how to use a needle and thread it's simple. I just used normal sewing thread. You could get a thicker waxed thread if you want. Just get something like this https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0789S6B4C/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_SZG4TR0W2DAWJQGR0PRD It has adhesives too but I find it'll tend to detach slightly at the corners. What I did was stick it on the tongue and just sew the top and bottom part of the strip to prevent it from lifting. Or u can bypass sewing and see how well the adhesives hold on its own. If you don't want to deal with any labor just buy the Velcro and bring into any place that will do it for you. Ie. Tailor, pro shop, shoe repair, etc. I personally wouldn't pay anyone to do this 10 min job though
  18. Last year and you only noticed now?
  19. It's the loop Velcro on the tongue that is trash. The hook part that's on the boot is actually fine. Two options 1) permanently sew the tongue on. 2) replace the loop Velcro on the tongue with Velcro brand industrial loop. Ive done option two with great results. I even extended the loop area higher as I like to push the tongue into the toebox. This way theres more surface area for the hook to grab onto when there's an extended piece of loop on the tongue. I agree though. The loop on the tongue is pathetic. After a few adjustments they fray.
  20. The retailer doesn't lose anything from the satisfaction guarantee so they shouldn't care. CCM eats the cost.
  21. Howie's have just the right amount of wax. Elite has too much imo.
  22. Unless there's a legitimate reason given to you why did you listen to it? Makes no sense to me. Stock laces are garbage. At minimum upgrade to better laces in general.
  23. Are you using waxed laces? If not try those. I've never been a fan of the injected eyelets since they don't conform as well as traditional eyelets. Maybe a second bake to get the eyelet facings to wrap more?
