    Everyone eventually gets to a point where they are set with what they have. So while they may be in a position to afford new gear, they aren't buying it cuz they are still happy with what they have. I couldn't agree more with the plateau in tech. IMO, I think modern era skates are as good as they are going to get. Same goes for sticks. Protective.....why bother. Really, the only area for new tech is helmets. But, stubborn ass hockey players want their Bauer 4500 and its crusty ass foam because it looks good. I'll leave some of the other stuff be.

    Conversion almost complete. *Edited for context* After trying to fit inlines by mail with no luck I decided convert some ice boots over. I spent hours searching for the parts, almost nothing available at the time. I reached out to JR for help. He didn't have a frame that would fit but he put me in contact with someone he thought might and sure enough they did. Classy move for sure. Thx man.

    We're talking about a community that took decades to accept half shields, refuses to wear any sort of shoulder protection, and swears by the gear they wore in junior or play in refs gear (yes I know a guy). These are the guys you'll be making masks for, haha, good luck getting them to wear them. 100% positive I won't be. I'd rather hang them up.

    When it comes to depth(volume), I'd put the Ribcor somewhere between the vapor and supreme.

    I doubt you'd see anything substantial just from time. It's not impossible. I wouldn't put new steel in holders that were trashed from years of playing. But if they're solid and the boots are still n good shape, why not. It's the least expensive option.

    I'll spare you the back story, next event. Something about that boot with a 254 edge holder w/LS5 just works for me. I stumbled across a second pair, same setup except a retail boot. They worked really well for me too. If I am honest, the overall fit of both pairs could be a little better. Makes wonder what custom 70k's would be like.

    To date....my pro-stock CCM 70k skates. Without question, the best thing I've ever done for my game.

    Its not just heavier players, perf steel or lighter steel. Bent runners are almost 100% due to a improper holder mount. Which is sadly more common than you'd think.

    100% Id almost rather use crappy Bauer factory laces. Besides, when was the last time anyone had issues with their lace tips?? Get some Howies and be done with it.

    I just assumed everyone cut different patterns to different lengths. My p28's are different then my P92's. If I try something different, I'll throw my skates to see how the blade lies, then cut wherever my top hand falls.

    Nitinol (nickel titanium) which is what Tydan and Step use. My bad.

    I would assume so. I've heard, this is what the pros are using in place of Step or a variation of it.

    I think it depends on what you use for steel and how often the blades are removed and reinserted. I have some prostock skates with holders that are pretty beat but the steel is locked in. I have another set of holders on diffetent skates where steel moves a bit more freely.

    Or maybe they are two entirely different concepts. I recall the O-stick being touted as reduced drag, improving swing speed. The ADV has nothing to do with drag or swing speed.

    I live in MA and struggle to find quality and consistent sharpenings. When I was still having a shop do my skates. I would drive about an hour north, bypassing a half dozen or so places that sharpen. It was a PIA. If that guy was having an off day or they were closed (which actually happened) I was screwed. There was this one time I was forced to go to PH. I asked for something that was not their standard cut. She took em and put them in the window. No marking the cut. I asked and she said "yeah, they know". Its a dying art.

    What a colossel waste of time... Anyway. On the economics or if. That 7, 8 year range is about what I figured. Money wise, I doubt I make my money back. I sharpen for me and maybe a few friends. I never charge. The convince of it though, oh hell yeah. Not having to rely on anyone else is nice and I love having fresh edges. I never put a dollar value to that but it has to be worth something. For me it's always been about the convince and consistency. It's the same edge every time. If they're hosed, its on me.

    Like I've always said, the weakest part of the Sparx machine is the bag of bones pressing the buttons. So I checked all my rings, they all say 40 per ring. Can someone hook me up with some of those sweet 60 per rings? 🙄

    You got it backwards. Originally it was listed at 40. So those less popular rings are still labeled 40. Which was explained in great detail by the VP of marketing at Sparx.

    No, they were very transparent about it. Older rings were labeled 40 per, newer rings are labeled 60 per and that reflects what's listed on the Sparx site. Nothing nefarious about it. They were conservative with the original numbers, which were then upgraded based on average customer usage. Repackaging every ring would have been costly and not really necessary.

    Ok, I'll say it. You aren't experienced enough to make these claims as fact. You've had the machine what a month and you're telling people who've had them for years that your experience is fact and that no one can yield better/different results. And once again. That magic number of 40-60 pairs of skates is under normal use. Everyone here agrees, you are working outside the realm of normal use. I suspect your results will change as 1) you become more experienced with the machine and 2) start sharpening skates in better condition.
