Or maybe Bauer sent the team order sticks in default colors to start the season and if the player wants to change the accent color he can request it. It makes little sense to me for a player to be forced into default colors when MyBauer exists for the rest of us.

Its called marketing.

When the average player sees 10 of the same stick on the ice between the two teams, and they can see it in his LHS (same colors, everything) its pretty easy for them to make the connection that its the same stick they saw in the NHL. However if on one team they have two guys using the green version, 1 using the non-grip version, 2 using grip, and then on the other team there are a couple red versions and some blue versions, it might not be that easy for the customer to understand its all the same stick, just different paint jobs.

However they allow a lot more players to use special colors of the stick once it has gotten through the full season, as the people buying it should by now be aware all of those sticks are the same thing. Initially they do not allow it because there could be confusion between potential customers.

Oh, I know that...my comment was for the people who didn't know that there are NHLers who get gift cards to use product, instead of gobs of cash. I guess I didn't word it the right way.

Pretty minor, but I never noticed that Konopka actually uses Harrow gloves and sticks for real.

Yeah, when I was in Tampa Bay he was in the sticks; without logos spare for a small one.

Another one for a potential "Player who swapped/switched to...." thread:

P. K Subban in all Easton (excl. skates):

07.jpg

It seems to be a bit too much of a one brand equipment for me to believe it's his personal preference. I might be wrong though.

P.S. Didn't he use to wear MLX skates in the past?

Frankly, Easton doesn't have that many "big names" anymore. Outside of minnesota and calgary there's just several players: Brad Richards, Gaborik??(going back and forth..), Doughty, Phaneuf, Webber and Neal.. Wonder if it's easton trying to fill in the gaps after the recent departures or something else is going on...

Easton won't use players in marketing unless they are head to toe(drinking the grape kool aid in vomitting E cup). There are still a big contingent of players using their product. Hockey suppliers are far to sensitive and would rather use lesser know players than high profile players proving what they are want to show(ie lots of high profile player use Easton sticks but won't put on their helmet on their head).

It's funny that I read this post as I was coming to post this link:

Not any new information, but pretty cool history on Easton and how baseball beginnings started into hockey. The irony is how he talks about how huge it was that they signed Roenick, Leetch, and later Gretzky and how huge that was for the brand.

He's been a rbk guy since his days in junior, still wearing 20ks in that pic

I meant to replace Phaneuf with Weber but ended up adding him instead... thanks for spotting that brainfart, it helps me prove a point.:)

Was he a reebok's endorsee, though?

I can't remember whether he used mlx skates or just stuck to skates protectors in the broken-foot-plague days.

Just because he wears all of one brand does not necessarily mean he's under a contract.

Ever since belleville he's been in 2nd gen 9ks,11ks and now 20ks

Right, exactly what Reebok set to accomplish by signing deals with the CHL/AHL/ECHL; that those guys would grow up in the product and continue to wear it in the NHL.

Ovechkin's spine protection is so funny to look at, it looks like 3 huge layers reaching half way his back and flip flop everytime he take a stride. Cant find a pic tho.

Yeah it's a couple of the Max-sorb or whatever things stitched together...kinda looks ridiculous. Semin is also rocking a gigantic square bad on his spine this season too, looks weird.

Didn't it used to be either the chest or back plate from a pair of Easton S19 shoulder pads?

Heh, keeps that jersey firmly tucked. Odd that he likes them layered inwards like that, with the attachment point on the inside of the pant. You would imagine it constantly chafing and pushing up on his back. Even if he wanted a double layer, securing one to the outside and another one to that first one (so that it lays flush against the shoulder pad) could also work. I wonder if his shoulders now have something done to them to compensate.

Interesting that he wants them at all, he isn't the typical net presence ala Holmstrom.

I'm probably overanalyzing this.

Iginla using a CCM RBZ tonight against the Blackhawks. I'm not normally one to care who uses what, but Iginla has been using Eastons for as long as I can remember. His name is on the sticks!
