wrangler 157 Report post Posted September 15, 2012 I refuse to use any stick older than me.Those sticks are both younger than we are, and even younger than chippa13.
chippa13 1844 Report post Posted September 15, 2012 Exactly, not that I'm a spring chicken but I am the youngest in this scenario.
chippa13 1844 Report post Posted September 19, 2012 Well, the ZL gave up the ghost tonight. I'll miss her.
interpathway 9 Report post Posted October 6, 2012 Lost mine shooting last week. I'm a right handed shot, coming down the right side, and one-touched a firm pass to the net. The puck cracked right through the blade, about an inch and a half from the heel. I've switched to a TotalONE, but will look to get my hands on another ZL. I may wait until the first price drop though. Thanks for the ride Jason.
beerleaguecaptain 999 Report post Posted October 7, 2012 My ZL still holding up. Just some minor cosmetic damage at this point but I am notoriously easy on my sticks.
mojo122 535 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 A wicked slash did my ZL in tonight. Almost 3-months playing at least 3 times a week. Performance never diminished over that time span. What I liked best was the way this stick loads and releases on wrist and snap shots.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 Miken sent me a couple sticks in a stiffer flex and a different curve a couple months back and I really haven't had much time on the ice with them thanks to work. Last night I stepped into a slapper and it just exploded off the stick. My wrist shots have a little less pop, but I've been playing a lot of D and this is just about perfect for me. chippa13 1844 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 Considering a replacement for my ZL that died but I can't seem to find anyone offering the BP12.
th6252 25 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 Considering a replacement for my ZL that died but I can't seem to find anyone offering the BP12.I placed an order for one through players bench and the stick was drop shipped directly from miken (who accidentally ended up sending me a z9). So you could probably call them up to order one even though they don't technically have them "in stock".
tvaughan4 16 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 If you usually ride an 85 then a 90 ZL should work nicely for you. That is what I went with.I play with a 77 flex Bauer and 85 Easton, both cut down 4". Where does the flex start on the ZL? Is it like Bauer or Easton? Should I go with an 80 or 90 flex for the ZL? Thanks.

Goonsquad 209 Report post Posted November 20, 2012 My ZL still holding up. Just some minor cosmetic damage at this point but I am notoriously easy on my sticks.Same here. Chips and scratches in the paint by the lower end of the stick. Its still my go to stick. I am still on the lookout for the big chips.JR can you look up what flex I asked for on the stick? J-Wa, the guy you met in Vegas, thinks its quite whippy. I thought I put in for an 85 but I could be wrong.
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted November 20, 2012 80, as they don't make 85.
hockeymass 11 Report post Posted November 20, 2012 My ZL is holding up well aside from some chips and scratches. It's still my favorite stick. I try to break out my APX from time to time but it just doesn't feel as good in my hands as the ZL does.
Axxion89 32 Report post Posted November 21, 2012 I figure an update is in order considering I have not been doing much updating on this stick. Still a great stick, have come back to it many times in my rotation and is again my go to stick. Only cosmetic chipping near the hosel but that issue has been spoken for so its holding up nicely. The only thing that would make this stick better would be a little more grip and a P106 curve, everything else is great!
skyscrape 5 Report post Posted November 21, 2012 My ZL seemed to have whipped out which surprised me. The Razor Z9 still has all of its pop still. Due to the flex profile I would go up from the 90 flex Z9 to a 100 next time. My stick from the high hosel down is chipping away dramatically. There was some chipping on the Z9 as well. I wish they would just leave the stick in a raw form so the weave was visible and the chipping issue would be solved. Just my idea.
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted December 1, 2012 Tonight was heart break for me. Playing in a tournament, went to take a snap shot and boom. Broke! Broken a little bit above the blade where I think most people are having problems and chippings. I'll have a pic soon. I literally wanted to cry when it happened. Honestly, it's my favorite stick and I'm a huge fan of Miken. I told my buddies to not let what happened with such a new stick deter them away!Edit: Here she is. I mourned her loss this morning. Now I have to look to save up for another one. Gonna be awhile.LOL. You handed it to me when you got it. I looked at it for 2 mins and said what? "It's got great construction but something is off about the hosel, bet it breaks right here" ...and where did it break? LOLAs Gary knows, I did get to use it in August...and I was impressed with the puck feel and shot performance. The feel wasn't as good as a Mission Pulse or one95 but pretty comparable to the next best thing, the Warrior DD blade. One thing that seemed the most impressive was how consistent it felt when shooting.
wrangler 157 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 I'm probably up to a dozen pickup sessions with my ZL, and I've got the outer layer separating and cracking off pieces around the same spot that Gary's broke. I don't do slap shots, seldom snappers, mostly just wrist shots and passes, though the past few times out I've done some digging along the boards, in traffic. So far, it's just the thin outer layer.I'd hate to lose this stick, these SJ ZL's have such a nice story, but I can't see not using it. Besides, I like how it works. beerleaguecaptain 999 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 Mine is all chipped up and beat to heck but structurally still sound. It is my primary stick. In fact, I just bought a new one so that I have another on deck.
wrangler 157 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 I think I'll put some tape on that area, so the outer layer doesn't just peel back and chip so easily. When this stick dies, I'll probably go back to my ST.
A2rhino 62 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 Have been very curious about this stick. I hope they have someone on this board, take this thread to heart and make the changes that are needed.
hockeymass 11 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 I'm rotating out the ZL with my 20k now. It's funny, I played in a beer league game a few weeks ago and decided to use my APX. I was getting frustrated because it honestly felt like crap. I grabbed my ZL for the third period and first shift with it sniped a beauty low corner off the post and in. I love the way this stick shoots, which is why I keep coming back to it.It does have a lot of chips and scratches, more than my other sticks, but functionally it's still very sound. MatthewRoach7 130 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 My ZL make its way to the rink in the sky last week. I did notice like may others lots more chipping then other sticks that I have had but it still worked great. Time to shop for a new stick!
Zylos45 118 Report post Posted March 14, 2013 Thought I would throw up a quick update....since "hockeymass" noticed me by my ZL stick at a game where we played each other while subbing in for a couple of NESHL winter teamsMy ZL from summer jam is still going strong. Still performs and still is in great shapeBeen using it as primary stick since the end of July '12...skating about 1-2 times a weekOnly thing I will change when I buy a new one is maybe moving up in flex since the stick plays softer.... (using 80 flex - Drury-ish Clone ZL)
