Just heard back from the Devils; they plan for the building to be open on 6/1. So, that's two months before the event.

I'm currently in protracted discussions with my agent regarding my retirement from hockey ๐Ÿคฃ. That being said if things are back to some sense of normalcy I'd be in for SummerJam! I say let this ride for a bit longer unless it's stressing you out, in which case no one will fault you for cancelling the event for 2020.

I do think people are holding off on committing right now due to everything that's going on. My opinion is to be patient and wait things out a bit. For me I am hopeful it will occur and I'm looking forward to it. I do think that there is a decent chance of us being ok. What would be helpful is if members would indicate their interest and just say "If everything clears up, yeah I'm going." Truth is its all refundable so no risk if you are driving.

If its a place you haven't been to I would suggesting coming in on Wednesday so you can do the tourist thing and explore. There's usually at least a couple other MSH'ers around. In Pittsburgh we went to a Pirates game and the Warhol museum, for example.

Itโ€™s a great time. My first time spending the weekend with everyone was awesome. Highly recommend going for the weekend. Hoping my health can finally get in the right direction so I can come back, even if just to hang out with everyone.

We have had people who have attended our events who the first couple of times just showed up for the skate, then left after, or stayed for dinner. Unfortunately, they end up not getting the full experience. The reason why we do this is to bring people together who have a common interest. The people who come Friday night always seem to come back - you get to meet the members in a relaxed setting.

I doesn't look like I'll be able to make it this year, but having been several times in the past, the registration fee covers the ice time and whatever rental costs are required for the manufacturers display/demo area as well as custom jerseys, socks and a puck. There are also usually give-aways from the manufacturers such as hats, bags, skate towels ect. and there have been draws for larger prizes at some past events. Picking the reps brains, seeing the new gear and getting to try some of it out is all great. The game itself is a very relaxed fun pickup game with a wide variety of skill levels as IPV6 mentioned. The dinners are a separate cost. I don't know what's being done this year, but for past events there was a BBQ/party on Friday at the host hotel with a reasonable fee to cover the costs of the food and then a dinner at a restaurant on the Saturday (usually followed by hanging out at the host hotel). These events are optional, but recommended as you get to meet fellow members with a shared common passion for the sport and equipment and hang out. It's flexible, if you can't make it to the dinner on Sat, but want to meet at the hotel after then that usually works. I've always enjoyed the BBQ and hotel hangouts with the other members; there are a lot of laughs and interesting discussions.

It's an opportunity to hang out and get to know the other MSH members.

There's a small chance I can make this work. When I thought it was in Las Vegas we made other plans for December. However, if I can make arrangements for that Friday & Saturday off, Mere and I will try to be there.

It's going to be different - there'll be more info soon, but with fall weather, more outdoor stuff can be done - so for people who have come to previous Winterfests, they will see a side of Detroit that they normally don't.
  28. 1 point
Absolutely - just saw where you're located and there a few people in that area who should be driving in for this.
  29. 1 point
Hmm, not too bad of a drive and I've never been to one of these... Will have to see if I can make it happen.

JR!!! Pencil Michelle and I in... would like to make an appearance for old times sake. ;)
  31. 1 point
To clarify, yes there is an event hotel with a special rate. While itโ€™s not strictly REQUIRED to stay there, you can potentially really jam up JR if you donโ€™t.
  32. 1 point
Howdy, Yeah, typically all the out-of-towners end up at the same hotel and usually Friday's get together is there. Not a 'requirement' to stay there or anything, but it makes it easier. JR negotiates a block of rooms rate. IIRC I think NJ is $200/night? I'm guessing you could probably find a buddy to share a room with but ?? I usually have my family with me and I'm one of those folks that likes to escape off to be by themselves at times so I've never tried to get a roomie. ๐Ÿ™‚ Mark

Howdy, Usually a dinner/get together the night before and the night of the game, generally later in the evenings for both (at least for an old man like me). I would say at these events the ice time / manufacturer demo / whatever is roughly half of the experience for me, with the other half being those get togethers or other activities (like if you've got family with you and do the tourist thing or something). "Worth it" is kinda a personal thing. Its worth it to me. Mark

Lets hope its better than my aim on goal

$135. Skill level all across the board. It's not a game, it's more of a pickup. Of course, the skate is the lowest on the list of reasons to attend ๐Ÿ™‚

We're working with the venue to possibly change it back to July 27th.

Indeed - since we moved to the new forum version there is little reason to have any sort of app (or use any sort of 3rd party service like we used to long ago). The mobile site is way WAY better than I had expected it to be, actually. I was one of the people that bitched when we dumped Tapatalk, too.

Agreed! and during the podcast you could have a forum open for members of MSH to ask questions for the podcast to answer. The forum itself obviously gives room for answering questions, but hearing it vocally could be special for members as well
  49. 1 point
Possible, but I would have to have an agreement with a manufacturer and/or retailer to do something like that. The benefit must be mutual.

We still have some things to iron out in the next few days, but it will be the face going forward.
